Michigan’s Mazi Smith was going 50 in a 25, had loaded gun and ammunition in pocket during traffic stop and arrest, records show

Joke's on you. My mother confirmed to me this thanksgiving weekend that I am very handsome and any woman would be lucky to have me.
December 6th, 2022 at 1:57 PM ^
Why are you the why that you are?
December 6th, 2022 at 2:25 PM ^
Who do you think you are? What gives you the right?
December 6th, 2022 at 2:33 PM ^
Who let the lemon head in?
You are a waste of life, and you should give up.
.....
is what I want to say....but I won't.
December 6th, 2022 at 6:38 PM ^
Tony you told me she has been blind for 15 years.
December 6th, 2022 at 1:54 PM ^
"Large amount of ammunition" is probably like 100 rounds for a range trip.
December 6th, 2022 at 1:56 PM ^
Exactly. I carry more than that when I go to the range. Plus I usually have 4 or 5 guns with me when I go to the range. Need to shoot them all to be familiar with them all.
December 6th, 2022 at 1:58 PM ^
100 rounds of ammo, at the range, is a pretty short outing tbh.
prior to ammo prices going berzerk, a few years back, going through 500 rounds at the range wasn't unheard of. Granted, that would be a couple guys shooting, not just one.
December 6th, 2022 at 2:01 PM ^
Absolutely. Now I hoard my ammo.
December 6th, 2022 at 2:43 PM ^
One bullet per zombie
But remember--there will be MILLIONS of them

- #2: Double Tap - In those moments when you're not sure the undead are really dead dead, don't get all stingy with your bullets.
There are Rules you know.
December 6th, 2022 at 2:14 PM ^
I'll go through 50-100 rounds of ammo from different manufacturers for each firearm I have just to make sure it feeds properly and see which kind of ammo it prefers. It makes a huge difference.
December 6th, 2022 at 2:22 PM ^
I have a hand gun in my safe at home which I have fired twice, both time at the range. I am terrified of both the gun and the bullets. I got it for home protection but I have a bad feeling that if I ever needed to use it I would just immediately shoot myself in the face.
December 6th, 2022 at 2:27 PM ^
You should probably get rid of that gun.
Edit: Responsibly
December 6th, 2022 at 5:47 PM ^
Where do you live, I'd like to make you safer by taking it off your hands for free.
December 6th, 2022 at 6:07 PM ^
Yes. Either take the time to get comfortable, and proficient with it, or don't own a gun.
December 6th, 2022 at 2:30 PM ^
Dude. Either get rid of the gun or get some instruction on how to use it. You're not protecting anyone by having a firearm which you cannot confidently operate.
December 6th, 2022 at 2:31 PM ^
Get some professional training. Ten to twenty hours of range time with a professional, quarterly range visits to maintain technique and safety protocols for reinforcement and you'll be right as rain.
Honestly I would say that is a minimum to become unterrified of the equipment you bought. Otherwise you are probably correct. Merely having it in the house when no one knows how to use it effectively or safely is probably asking for a real bad time.
December 6th, 2022 at 2:34 PM ^
It's on the list.
December 6th, 2022 at 2:35 PM ^
You need to get rid of it before you kill someone or yourself if you're that afraid of it
December 6th, 2022 at 2:43 PM ^
I was exaggerating a bit. I got it right before the lockdown when I pretty sure the world was ending and I thought it may be a good idea to have and know how use a gun. It is registered. I had one training session at the range before the first lockdown and then one after it. It has not been out of the safe since. At that time, I was confident I could use it. I just have not since then and I really would not remember a whole lot. I agree, I need to engage it again and be able to use it competently.
December 6th, 2022 at 3:03 PM ^
Yeah, you can't go several years without touching it. You need the muscle memory that comes from repeated use at a range (or dry fire at home with snap caps, if nothing else).
December 6th, 2022 at 6:09 PM ^
You have to shoot it semi-regularly, and take it seriously. Or just get rid of it. Really no middle ground here.
December 6th, 2022 at 2:52 PM ^
Handguns are not great for home protection.
Dogs and pump shotguns, however, likely are.
Dogs probably scare most off, and if not, the sound of racking a shell into the chamber with the pump likely will scare most of the rest. And if you have to shoot, buckshot won't penetrate walls and put others at risk.
Shooting someone, even in self-defence, for me would be a hard decision to make. I have decided that I won't shoot unless my wife or children are at imminent risk. Otherwise, I will keep my gun pointed at the guy and let him take what he wants.
Shooting a man over a possession is something I couldn't live with personally.
December 6th, 2022 at 3:02 PM ^
Actually, depending on the wall, Buckshot might penetrate, but less so than a large calibre pistol.
December 6th, 2022 at 3:04 PM ^
Pump shotguns are the shit for home defense. There is no more terrifying sound in the universe than the sound of a pump shotgun chambering a round in the dark.
I'd much prefer to not shoot anyone. I'd fervently hope any home invader would run after hearing that just as I would.

Semi-auto 12 gauge loaded with 00-buck
If you’re going to shoot. Shoot to kill. Only want one story being told to the police
December 6th, 2022 at 3:04 PM ^
This is solid advice. Handguns *can* be used for home protection but they're about 5th on the priority list.
December 6th, 2022 at 6:19 PM ^
Shooting a man over a possession is something I couldn't live with personally.
shouldn’t have a gun then imo
you have no idea why he’s there … that his intentions are. If you don’t “have it” to kill someone and quickly, should probably get rid of the gun. More likely to wind up in the perpetrators hands as you balk. Then you’re really fucked
December 6th, 2022 at 8:36 PM ^
What about dogs WITH pump shotguns?
December 6th, 2022 at 3:01 PM ^
Handgun the worst and most self dangerous form of in home protection IMO. Also the most widely used for in home protection.
December 6th, 2022 at 6:40 PM ^
Could I interest you in a taser maybe. Or some bear spray?
December 6th, 2022 at 2:21 PM ^
To be fair, Mazi himself is the size of a couple of guys.
December 6th, 2022 at 2:49 PM ^
Don't blame the officer for cuffing him as quickly as possible. He a LARGE man!
December 6th, 2022 at 2:24 PM ^
dry fire always your friend though much more so lately given pricing
December 6th, 2022 at 4:18 PM ^
I remember when they had 1,000 round boxes of 9mm 115grain FMJ for $88 at Top Gun back before the Obama administration, I was stacked from the floor to mid-chest. I should have bought more back then.
December 6th, 2022 at 3:29 PM ^
There's an old saying, which has been proven true through many empirical studies, including several by the NRA: The bigger the gun the smaller the penis.
December 6th, 2022 at 3:40 PM ^
I don't have a gun so keep me away from your ladies, boys.
December 6th, 2022 at 4:19 PM ^
Why are you fascinated by the penis size of gun owners?
December 6th, 2022 at 5:21 PM ^
Exactly how many gun owners penises have you seen?
December 6th, 2022 at 2:30 PM ^
And I think that's important context that we should know.
Let's just say that I'm not a gun person and leave it at that, but as someone who doesn't shoot, "100 rounds" sounds really bad at face value, but with the context that he's going to a shooting range where that lasts half and hour(?) tops, at that point even I couldn't give a shit. Much in the same way that "felony gun charge" sounds really bad devoid of context, but there are felony gun charges and then there are felony gun charges and Mazi is pretty clearly the former
Again, Mazi is at fault for imprudence and I think probably deserved a DNP-CD and I think this should be a lesson to him about the added responsibility he has to carry as a semi public figure, but he's pretty clearly not a danger to society (aside from the speeding, which cumong);so let's not talk about him like such.
December 6th, 2022 at 2:45 PM ^
100 rounds in a semi auto pistol may only be 10-15 minutes if he's comfortable with it, he's good, and it's sighted in. It is now an unfortunately expensive hobby.
December 6th, 2022 at 3:04 PM ^
I honestly have to wonder if he had been at the range and was late going somewhere and forgot to remove the firearm and put it in his trunk.
December 6th, 2022 at 1:55 PM ^
This really changes nothing.
December 6th, 2022 at 2:02 PM ^
It changes everything. Speeding 50 in a 25 is a pretty big deal. Taking a gun off your person and tossing it in the back seat to avoid more severe charges is a big deal.
December 6th, 2022 at 2:06 PM ^
I don't know. If I were a black man and had a gun with me, permitted/CCW or otherwise, I'd want that thing as far away from me as possible in a traffic stop.
December 6th, 2022 at 2:19 PM ^
regardless of your color, traffic stop etiquette will go a long way to getting you a nice drive away with a warning in many situations. this one more serious, but in general a good idea. the basics:
music off; all windows down; if night time, turn on inside dome light; have your DL/regist/insurance info right there; keep hands on the wheel and if really want to be a pro, have your palms facing you while on the wheel at approach.
in michigan if you are a CPL holder you are required to let the officer know if you have your heater with you. most cops are okay, some are fantastic, some are evil, but all of them want to go home at EOW, so being cool isn't a bad strategy.
December 6th, 2022 at 3:07 PM ^
Is now a good time to point out that CPL holders are statistically the most law-abiding citizens in the US?
On a side note. Mazi must have disclosed to the officer either way that he was carrying, even knowing he was doing so illegally.
