I have a hand gun in my safe at home which I have fired twice, both time at the range.  I am terrified of both the gun and the bullets.  I got it for home protection but I have a bad feeling that if I ever needed to use it I would just immediately shoot myself in the face.

Get some professional training. Ten to twenty hours of range time with a professional, quarterly range visits to maintain technique and safety protocols for reinforcement and you'll be right as rain.

Honestly I would say that is a minimum to become unterrified of the equipment you bought. Otherwise you are probably correct. Merely having it in the house when no one knows how to use it effectively or safely is probably asking for a real bad time.

I was exaggerating a bit.  I got it right before the lockdown when I pretty sure the world was ending and I thought it may be a good idea to have and know how use a gun.  It is registered.  I had one training session at the range before the first lockdown and then one after it.  It has not been out of the safe since.  At that time, I was confident I could use it.  I just have not since then and I really would not remember a whole lot.  I agree, I need to engage it again and be able to use it competently.

Handguns are not great for home protection.

Dogs and pump shotguns, however, likely are.

Dogs probably scare most off, and if not, the sound of racking a shell into the chamber with the pump likely will scare most of the rest. And if you have to shoot, buckshot won't penetrate walls and put others at risk.

Shooting someone, even in self-defence, for me would be a hard decision to make.  I have decided that I won't shoot unless my wife or children are at imminent risk. Otherwise, I will keep my gun pointed at the guy and let him take what he wants.

Shooting a man over a possession is something I couldn't live with personally.

shouldn’t have a gun then imo

you have no idea why he’s there … that his intentions are. If you don’t “have it” to kill someone and quickly, should probably get rid of the gun. More likely to wind up in the perpetrators hands as you balk. Then you’re really fucked

And I think that's important context that we should know.

Let's just say that I'm not a gun person and leave it at that, but as someone who doesn't shoot, "100 rounds" sounds really bad at face value, but with the context that he's going to a shooting range where that lasts half and hour(?) tops, at that point even I couldn't give a shit.  Much in the same way that "felony gun charge" sounds really bad devoid of context, but there are felony gun charges and then there are felony gun charges and Mazi is pretty clearly the former

Again, Mazi is at fault for imprudence and I think probably deserved a DNP-CD and I think this should be a lesson to him about the added responsibility he has to carry as a semi public figure, but he's pretty clearly not a danger to society (aside from the speeding, which cumong);so let's not talk about him like such.

regardless of your color, traffic stop etiquette will go a long way to getting you a nice drive away with a warning in many situations.  this one more serious, but in general a good idea.  the basics:

music off; all windows down; if night time, turn on inside dome light; have your DL/regist/insurance info right there; keep hands on the wheel and if really want to be a pro, have your palms facing you while on the wheel at approach.

in michigan if you are a CPL holder you are required to let the officer know if you have your heater with you.  most cops are okay, some are fantastic, some are evil, but all of them want to go home at EOW, so being cool isn't a bad strategy.
