Harbaugh said he'll be back enthusiastically coaching Michigan in 2023
December 4th, 2022 at 7:35 PM ^
I already see people on twitter pointing out examples of coaches saying similar things and leaving shortly after. Harbaugh is a lot of things but that's not him
December 4th, 2022 at 7:45 PM ^
People will just say that he did coach Michigan in 2023. The championship game is played in 2023.
He never said 2023 Michigan football season!!

Doesn’t matter. He knows. The team knows. Harbaugh has a track record almost unparalleled in coaching in not being coy about this.
I mean, last year a recruit’s family asked him if he would ever consider an NFL job and he told them the truth, that he might do so. (That recruit got two picks yesterday). Last year he never, ever denied NFL interest, and when given the opportunity to quash rumors declined to do so because they were true.
That’s a lot more honesty than any guy he’s recruiting against. The guys we want on the team will respect that honesty.
He’s coaching here next year.

I get a lot of comments from casual CFB fans or exclusively NFL fans when they learn about my Michigan fandom about Harbaugh, since they only know what they've seen on ESPN.
"No, his seat isn't hot. He's got the job as long as he wants it." (This has quieted down in the last year for some reason.)
"No, he's not going to the NFL. He said that it was out of his system and that's that. I've got no reason to believe otherwise."
December 4th, 2022 at 9:31 PM ^
His seat WAS hot. Being forced to take a pay cut is the last stop before getting fired. Much of the fan base, including many here, wanted him gone. He fought back against all the negativity and won, but I doubt he’ll ever completely forget that experience.
December 4th, 2022 at 9:36 PM ^
It was hot after 2020, but Hot Take America was asking that question way back when he was winning 9-10 games but “couldn’t beat his rivals.”
December 4th, 2022 at 9:55 PM ^
It wasn't just mindless hot takes. Way back when he was winning 9-10 games, his record was terrible against Michigan's rivals, top ten teams, away teams, and bowl teams. He was not brought in to Michigan just to beat Maryland and Rutgers, that was never going to be enough.
He fixed all of that, with input, it looks like, from his brother and the Baltimore Ravens staff.
That will make a great John U Bacon type book someday on what led to the seemingly out-of-nowhere turnaround. It really is remarkable.
December 4th, 2022 at 10:38 PM ^
Well, yes, I suppose. I guess I don't remember it as HOT (the seat, not the takes). Grumbling, sure. But I did not feel that he was going to be fired.
December 4th, 2022 at 8:13 PM ^
So what do you think?
Think Harbaugh will go to the NFL? I heard a rumor…
December 4th, 2022 at 7:29 PM ^
Until next year. I supposed at some point he'll be considered too old in the current environment. But if he keeps winning here, it'll keep the conversation alive given his previous NFL track record. I hate to say it, we'll have to get used to this for a while, at least the external speculation followed by the denial.
December 4th, 2022 at 8:26 PM ^
So speculation will cease, right?
December 4th, 2022 at 7:26 PM ^
Sounds like a quick way to shut some of the pundits up! Go Blue!
December 4th, 2022 at 7:53 PM ^
This feels like an unprecedented event - a clear, quick, and definitive rebuttal to the rumors. Finally, he is fully ours! Go blue!
December 4th, 2022 at 7:28 PM ^
That will put the rumors to rest!
Because... that's how rumors work, right? You confront them with solid evidence and...
I mean...
There's going to be three more "Harbaugh to NFL rumor" threads tomorrow, aren't there?
December 4th, 2022 at 8:28 PM ^
Obviously, Harbaugh follows MGoBlog obsessively so when he read earlier comments insisting he declare he was staying, he followed MGoBloviation demands.
December 4th, 2022 at 7:28 PM ^
Good to see Tom VH is still holding us through tough times all these years later.
December 4th, 2022 at 9:58 PM ^
Man, how excited where you when you saw his initials as a thread title? What a gift he was to the blog
December 4th, 2022 at 10:23 PM ^
That Tom was a true blessing.
December 4th, 2022 at 7:28 PM ^
This is what we were looking for, Jim! Thank you!
December 4th, 2022 at 7:29 PM ^
I’ll be back enthusiastically rooting for Michigan in 2023 (after we win the natty in January)!
December 4th, 2022 at 7:30 PM ^
FUCK YEAH
December 4th, 2022 at 7:32 PM ^
America!
December 4th, 2022 at 7:39 PM ^
Can't wait to see the TV fun Michigan had today for the CFP show, turned into a GIF like above !
Anyone know which M players led the "fun" ? Thanks
Go Blue!
December 4th, 2022 at 7:53 PM ^
They looked like they were having a great time, good for them!
I believe it was Michael Barrett taking a "bite" of the football trophy.
December 4th, 2022 at 7:31 PM ^
Told you so…..
the man’s word is good as gold
December 4th, 2022 at 7:32 PM ^
I'm glad he's getting ahead of this bs
December 4th, 2022 at 7:32 PM ^
Fantastic to hear but it still won’t stop the jive turkeys and the sports “reporters”. Clicks clicks they need those clicks
December 4th, 2022 at 7:32 PM ^
Thank you coach.
December 4th, 2022 at 7:32 PM ^
Good! Let's keep him around until he retires.
December 4th, 2022 at 7:40 PM ^
I have man love for you, Coach Harbaugh! And there is nothing wrong with that, by god!!!
December 4th, 2022 at 7:42 PM ^
With an enthusiasm unknown to mankind! Is this an enthusiastic posbang?
December 4th, 2022 at 7:45 PM ^
Whose 'reports' are these? What a contrived line of questioning.
December 4th, 2022 at 7:45 PM ^
Hold me TomVH
December 4th, 2022 at 7:59 PM ^
Wow what a slap in Tel Mucker’s face
December 4th, 2022 at 8:32 PM ^
When you call yourself a horseshit coach..
December 4th, 2022 at 9:30 PM ^
Would be a massive pay cut for Tuck.
December 4th, 2022 at 8:01 PM ^
He forgot Frames Janklin!
Or maybe he didn't. 🤷♂️
December 4th, 2022 at 8:02 PM ^
shots fired!
i'm sure there's a bunch of negative recruiting coming from those named coaches and/or their camps. good on harbaugh, as per usual.
December 4th, 2022 at 8:07 PM ^
Ha ha ha. Classic Jim. Well, Buckeyes would be happy to get rid off Ryan Day. But not everyone can be successful in College and Pros.
December 4th, 2022 at 7:50 PM ^
Related news: The Indianapolis Colts have announced that they will be known as the Indianapolis Wolverines next year.
December 4th, 2022 at 7:51 PM ^
Well, there it is. Now let’s go beat TCU!!!
December 4th, 2022 at 7:58 PM ^
Thanks for the hugs TomVH!
December 4th, 2022 at 8:08 PM ^
That’s great to see! Won’t stop the rumor mills from circulating every year, and the likes of Tucker, Day, and Franklin will be using this on the trail as much as they can.
Just got to deal with it at this point.
December 4th, 2022 at 8:13 PM ^
That won’t stop the “whispers and rumors”. Our competition will try to plant doubt with potential recruits. Green with envy.
December 4th, 2022 at 8:20 PM ^
The fact that this won't change anyone who reports for the NFL is why people getting worked up over his name being dragged into these discussions should just chill. I don't think recruits care and at this point it's just part of being so successful as a college coach that NFL teams are fighting to get you in the room. Nobody is beating down Ryan Day's door right now.
December 4th, 2022 at 8:25 PM ^
Hopefully, this will stave off the worried, hand-wringing posts here about Harbaugh going or staying. But probably not.
