Bielema "furious" at officials for pick play
On the replay it looks to me like the Illinois defender clearly initiates the contact on Loveland and Loveland just keeps running forward. Certainly isn't a pick. Poor Bert.

Guy is just a huge bag of hot air. There were a couple of muggings by his defensive backs on our receivers during the game. I bet he didn't complain about those non calls.
November 19th, 2022 at 8:16 PM ^
I certainly saw several incredibly bad spots of the ball during the game, and there seemed to be dubious calls--as in almost all games--on both sides. And, my god, the offsides on Anthony's dropped long pass. . . But 'my offense isn't bad because the other guy has committed offenses' isn't terribly sound logic, or legal for defense purposes. If we just stick to the subject at hand--whether or not an offense was committed--this does indeed look like a pick.
More useful to note that a five-yard penalty still sets us up pretty nicely for the field goal? I mean, that was not a game-changing penalty or failure to enforce.

The spots were absolutely terrible all game long
November 19th, 2022 at 8:40 PM ^
This was the John O'Neill referee crew. Never underestimate their ability to call a bad game.
November 19th, 2022 at 9:13 PM ^
Seriously, it was those jack-wads? Does this mean we won't see them next week in Columbus? HURRAH!
November 19th, 2022 at 8:40 PM ^
Dude wasn't offsides on the Anthony drop. It was close but not in the neutral zone.
November 20th, 2022 at 12:52 AM ^
I paused and watched multiple times. He was clearly in the neutral zone at the snap.
November 19th, 2022 at 9:41 PM ^
That non-call offsides left me incredulous. Everyone was sure there was a flag 🤦♂️. But I feel for Anthony, b2b games he has a tough but catchable ball that goes between his hands. Maybe he’s the one needing contacts?
November 20th, 2022 at 7:58 AM ^
Tough but catchable? That ball was perfect and went directly through his hands. Sure, the presence of the defenders make this tougher than pitch and catch, but that’s a DO from McCarthy and you gotta make that play.
November 19th, 2022 at 8:20 PM ^
All day long they held our receivers with no Pi called
November 19th, 2022 at 8:43 PM ^
Bingo, 2-3 pass interference calls that’s were not made.
November 19th, 2022 at 9:42 PM ^
Guy is just a huge bag of hot air
And here I thought he was a huge bag of cheeseburgers and milkshakes…
November 19th, 2022 at 10:04 PM ^
yeah, he'd be lighter if it were just air
November 19th, 2022 at 8:06 PM ^
There are always missed calls. Could have been a PI on Anthony, could have been numerous holding calls. 4 penalties on both teams in the stats. Bert had a tough week, I’ll let it slide.
November 20th, 2022 at 11:26 AM ^
This. Bert's not pissed at the non-call. Bert's pissed that his team gakked away back-to-back games against Sparty & Purdue, which made UM a must-win.
November 19th, 2022 at 8:07 PM ^
Losers gotta whine
November 19th, 2022 at 8:08 PM ^
That’s def a pick. Can’t be making contact like that before the ball is in the air but refs have been missing calls all game. They got flagged for 5 DPIs last week and only had 1 against us t the end when the dude was blatantly holding Bells arm.
November 19th, 2022 at 8:12 PM ^
He's engaged with the man lined up on him who initiated the contract. The safety picked his own guy.
November 19th, 2022 at 8:18 PM ^
Yep, its not a pick as Loveland didn't make contact with the defender defending against gash...nor did he move across into the defender, he just went straight...
November 20th, 2022 at 10:58 AM ^
Objectively not a pick, but the fact that people can see it two different ways just means it was close enough to let go.
November 19th, 2022 at 8:22 PM ^
Who initiates the contact? Illinois. How can that be a pick to push back against a guy trying to chuck you? I play CB in HS. That goes on every play. You’re coached to do that as a DB.
November 19th, 2022 at 9:27 PM ^
You should read a rule book
November 19th, 2022 at 9:53 PM ^
It probably was intended as a pick, however, the thing that made it a no-call was the defenders grab of Loveland as he started downfield, holding the receiver. The other defender just got blocked off. The official has to read it as illegal and offensive interference, not guess intent. There is no way Bielema sees that from his vantage point on the sideline, the issue must have been raised from a press box look and review.
November 19th, 2022 at 8:08 PM ^
Boohoo! Everyone loves to shit on Michigan when they get screwed royally by refs, yet it's not so fun when the shoe is on the other foot, is it?
Waaaaah! 11-0 baby!
November 19th, 2022 at 8:08 PM ^
Bert's eyes are practically squinted shut, I'm amazed he can see anything at all.
November 19th, 2022 at 8:09 PM ^
How about Illinois clearly being in the neutral zone on the 4th down with JJ thinking he had a free play? It was obvious in real time and the refs STILL didn’t throw the flag.
You really want to start bitching about the refs, Bert? Because they helped Illinois on about 5 plays.
November 19th, 2022 at 9:04 PM ^
The play Bert is complaining about was completely legal and not a pick. That said, the defender was not offsides on the dropped ball by Anthony, on replay.
November 19th, 2022 at 9:05 PM ^
Even on the replay, his foot is clearly on the neutral zone line
November 19th, 2022 at 9:08 PM ^
If it was on the line, it was barely on it. And the refs don’t have the benefit of that line striped across the field in real time. It was not a blatant offsides.
November 19th, 2022 at 9:27 PM ^
There is an official literally positioned to watch down the line of scrimmage at the snap. He was offsiides.
November 19th, 2022 at 9:57 PM ^
Exactly.
November 19th, 2022 at 8:13 PM ^
That is rich. Complaining about the officiating from the team that had well over 100 yards of penalties last week and were given free reign to do whatever they wanted today?
November 19th, 2022 at 8:40 PM ^
Wash, rinse, repeat week after week when these highly penalized teams come in and play perfect, sound football all of the sudden. I know some of this is homerism but man we seem to get equal calls, at best, even at home. Our defensive line was getting held like gang busters and if it’s like that next week, their passing game will eat us alive.
November 19th, 2022 at 8:15 PM ^
Some people having a meltdown over this play at RCMB.
November 19th, 2022 at 8:26 PM ^
That’s cute. I hope they enjoy their bowl game…
November 19th, 2022 at 9:07 PM ^
What eeez this bowl game of which you speak?
November 19th, 2022 at 9:43 PM ^
In their imagination?
November 19th, 2022 at 8:35 PM ^
Shouldn't they focus on raising bond money.
November 19th, 2022 at 8:38 PM ^
Of course they don't want to talk about their own game.
November 19th, 2022 at 9:31 PM ^
In daily life as well as in sports, part of what I call "grievance culture" is submitting to the idea that it is much simpler to talk about or, in many cases, ridicule others because to look in the mirror and acknowledge your own shortcomings would require introspection that some are either unwilling to do, or even incapable of initiating.
This has been the credo of RCMB since its inception, and it takes the form of not even watching their own football games. Even when they were good and we struggled mightily now and again, they would prattle on about us. Now, when those fortunes are flipped, it seems to be even worse, which is unsurprising.
November 20th, 2022 at 10:51 AM ^
How much does it cost to go there and learn Insecurity 101? Backstabbing, unethical Dantonio culture permeates that fetid institution. Nardogs unnecessary roughness has circled back to Sir Robin...poetic.
November 19th, 2022 at 9:38 PM ^
Their team went into overtime and they want to talk about us?
November 19th, 2022 at 8:15 PM ^
Why don't he complain about the blatant missed DPI's by his DB's ? Ohhh that's right , Kick rocks Bert
November 19th, 2022 at 8:15 PM ^
Tough to be a 🐷 in a Wolverine world

Saw him referred to as “Beluga Bert” on a message board. Spot. On.

Belugas are smart and cute. Bert is neither. Do not insult belugas by associating them with him.

Arkansas was a match made in heaven. I am sure he could play a central role in Porky's, the remake.

It was a long game, he was probably hangry.
