Big Ten coaches - naming their favorite "old school coach"
Another in the series that BTN does.
Ryan Day giving the "political" answer. Eye roll.

Schiano with the kill shot.
November 18th, 2022 at 6:01 PM ^
Work on many levels.
November 18th, 2022 at 9:41 PM ^
They're rivals now.
November 18th, 2022 at 5:40 PM ^
no one mentioned Bo or Woody. Interresting.
November 18th, 2022 at 5:45 PM ^
Or Paterno.
November 18th, 2022 at 6:03 PM ^
Thank God!!!
November 18th, 2022 at 5:45 PM ^
No one should ever pick Bo for anything again
November 18th, 2022 at 8:14 PM ^
Oh stop.
November 18th, 2022 at 9:38 PM ^
Why?!?!?!
We'll scorn Paterno but give Bo a free pass?
Fuck that!
November 19th, 2022 at 5:28 AM ^
So gross that people downvote this stuff. We're no better than Ohio if you people can't hold our own accountable.
November 18th, 2022 at 6:39 PM ^
Harbaugh probably realized there'd be some hysteria if he did.
November 18th, 2022 at 6:54 PM ^
I mean it’s his dad. As much Jim respected Bo he loves his dad and deservedly so. Jack by all accounts is a good coach and a good man.
November 18th, 2022 at 5:41 PM ^
Urban Meyer would have picked himself.
Scott Frost would have picked his Mom.
November 18th, 2022 at 7:09 PM ^
Maybe I should start a list of responses / responders who make me laugh aloud.
November 18th, 2022 at 8:16 PM ^
Urban would have picked Earle Bruce. Thought so much of him he hired and then protected his grandson.
November 18th, 2022 at 11:32 PM ^
Urban Meyer probably felt up Scott Frost's mom in a bar...
November 19th, 2022 at 1:48 AM ^
Maybe Scott Frosts mom's granddaughter.
November 18th, 2022 at 5:49 PM ^
Ryan Day must not be very smart....Buckeye fans are pissed he didn't say Woody...he missed a layup on that one!
November 18th, 2022 at 6:51 PM ^
All previous Buckeye coaches since Woody have been fired. Hard for Day to pick any of them without getting some sort of blowback.
November 18th, 2022 at 7:04 PM ^
Yeah, but he could have picked...someone else. Like, name Bill Bowes, your HC at UNH who was the winningest coach in program history and did so over 27(!) years.
November 18th, 2022 at 9:02 PM ^
All buckeye coaches INCLUDING Woody have been fired
November 18th, 2022 at 9:54 PM ^
Dude if you live in Ohio you can say Woody all day long and get away with it.
In fact if you’re charming enough you can say Woody in Michigan and it might pay off.
November 19th, 2022 at 2:57 AM ^
Correction: including Woody have been fired.
November 19th, 2022 at 11:01 AM ^
I'm thinking the one before Woody didn't leave on good terms.
November 18th, 2022 at 7:36 PM ^
It wasn’t an ideal, controlled environment.
For slugging people in the throat.
Apparently.
November 18th, 2022 at 5:53 PM ^
Coach Ferentz, lol
November 18th, 2022 at 7:28 PM ^
My dad. I wouldn’t be getting all this money without him!
November 18th, 2022 at 8:25 PM ^
Same for Jay "fuck-shit" Paterno!
November 18th, 2022 at 8:34 PM ^
Ferentz could've mentioned Joe Moore (of the Joe Moore Award fame) who was his high school coach. Moore was arguably the best OL coach of his era. Ferentz made his mark coaching the OL.
November 18th, 2022 at 5:55 PM ^
This was surprisingly entertaining. Many great answers. Ryan Day's answer is less a politic answer and more simply strange.
November 18th, 2022 at 6:02 PM ^
If you just wake up one day on third base, you don't have much awareness of the past.
November 18th, 2022 at 6:04 PM ^
Ryan Day had a hard time because they said pre 2000. He only knows B12 coaches post 2000..
November 18th, 2022 at 6:26 PM ^
It's like they asked him his favorite French New Wave director.
"Oh, gosh, there's just so many..."
November 18th, 2022 at 8:18 PM ^
And Michelin starred chefs.
November 18th, 2022 at 6:33 PM ^
That's the typical answer from those who were born in a third base... or something lke that..
November 18th, 2022 at 6:14 PM ^
I enjoy this series, but I wish they wouldn't put the caption there until they actually say it. It's a like a spoiler for each guy's answer.
November 18th, 2022 at 6:52 PM ^
Hayden Fry is the only correct answer.
Woody was nuts. Bo….he broke my heart.
November 18th, 2022 at 9:24 PM ^
I know this isn't news but man, Bert is enormous.
November 18th, 2022 at 7:00 PM ^
Ryan Day not even having the guts to answer the question gives me yet more confidence that next weekend might be interesting.
November 18th, 2022 at 7:11 PM ^
His response does suggest an overly cautious person, doesn't it?
November 18th, 2022 at 7:16 PM ^
It's kind of weird that it didn't occur to him to just say Woody and be done with it. These are space-filler segments and aren't really the kind of thing these coaches should think deeply about or give insightful answers to.
November 18th, 2022 at 7:12 PM ^
Schiano choosing Ferentz is a nice little backhanded compliment there.

Ryan Day is a real candy ass.
November 18th, 2022 at 7:30 PM ^
“Candy Ass” - my dad’s favorite choice of words.
November 18th, 2022 at 7:45 PM ^
Was the criteria really pre-2000? I mean, Tressel was coaching at Youngstown State I suppose. I think PJ needs to pick again.
November 19th, 2022 at 11:04 AM ^
Tressel wasn't rowing the boat. He was stealing it.
November 19th, 2022 at 11:04 AM ^
Tressel wasn't rowing the boat. He was stealing it.

I couldn’t listen with sound on. Ara Parseghian coached at Northwestern until he was poached by Notre Dame. Other old school football coaches at NU include Yankee’s owner George Steinbrenner and Ohio St. Heisman Trophy winner Otto Graham.
November 18th, 2022 at 8:38 PM ^
Don't forget one of my all time favorite names...Serafino "Foge" Fazio.
