AP: M #4. Heisman odds: Corum #4. Jimbo Fisher contract, apparently no buyout
The Heisman odds have it at a 2 man race now, CJ Stroud and Hendon Hooker. Blake Corum at 4th in the odds. It's a distant 4th though. Still time for him to move up. Maybe he can have a 200 yd, 5 TD day against State to move him up some. :-)
And finally, Jimbo Fisher in some very hot water. Fans, and maybe the suits in the Texas A&M world, want him out. But apparently, there was no buyout on his contract. The pitchforks and torches are out at College Station, Texas!

Clemson with one first place vote, LOL.
October 23rd, 2022 at 2:56 PM ^
Seems like Tucker and Fisher have the same agent.
October 23rd, 2022 at 3:10 PM ^
It is theoretically possible for A&M and MSU to swap coaches and jointly pay them each $19m per year for the next 8 years
October 23rd, 2022 at 3:29 PM ^
They literally do. Jimmy Sexton is a miracle worker for his clients
October 23rd, 2022 at 4:21 PM ^
Looks like Jimmy Sexton deserves a $95 million guaranteed contract. That dude is very good at his job!
October 23rd, 2022 at 7:05 PM ^
Tucker's agent is Neil Cornrich.
October 23rd, 2022 at 7:55 PM ^
Sexton represented Tucker in the negotiations last year
One of the most notable college football coach agents in the country, Jimmy Sexton, is the representative for Tucker in these negotiations. It appears that he took the Spartans for all he could.
October 23rd, 2022 at 8:14 PM ^
A deeper dive reveals that you are correct.
October 23rd, 2022 at 4:02 PM ^
As does Kirk Ferentz.
October 23rd, 2022 at 4:22 PM ^
It's clear there becomes a point where the salary becomes absurd without a buyout. Tucker and Fischer are beyond that point. I wonder if this makes programs think twice when trying to "lock in" medicore coaches.
October 24th, 2022 at 8:31 AM ^
No. They won't think twice because they are run by rich boosters (looking at you Matt Ishbia) who have more dollars than sense.
October 23rd, 2022 at 6:03 PM ^
Yeah, Tucker got 95 million for twice winning Staee's super bowl (Michigan game)..... what the hell did Jimbo win to get that kind of cash?
October 23rd, 2022 at 6:19 PM ^
To be fair, he's accomplished a lot more than Tucker, even if most of it happened a few years back: a national title, two playoff appearances, and five top-10 finishes (including two years ago). He's 120-41 as a head coach. Tucker is 21-18.
The concern though is that he's had only one really good season at A&M and it was the Covid year.
At any rate, I don't understand ever giving someone a 10-year contract. Five years is enough to reassure recruits.
October 23rd, 2022 at 6:37 PM ^
Jimbo and Mel...these 2 are not the same.
Jimbo's record was 83-23 at FSU. While he was trending down a bit towards the end of his tenure, he had 4 division titles, 3 conference titles, the last BCS national championship game title and a birth into the first CFB playoff, in his 8 year tenure. His high point came with Jameis Winston at QB, but only his last year was a dumpster fire. Perhaps that should have been the canary in the coal mine, but he had success at the highest level of CFB. Few if any could have predicted that he would be a complete disaster at TA&M, specifically, with their absurd recruiting, facilities and donor $.
Mel Tucker is a career .500 coach with 2 wins (1 in a Covid year) against UM, MSU's Super Bowl. Giving that man a $95mm-10 year guaranteed contract was the most little brother, desperate to be relevant move in modern CFB history. Tuck's greatest football achievement to date is finishing 3rd in a CFB division.
Tuck's contract is this era's version of Notre Dame giving Charlie Weiss a 10 year $40 million contract for playing USC really close that one time. It reeks of desperation.

Just wait until Texas and Oklahoma get into the SEC. They will also be huge failures (not that they aren't now). A&M's problem isn't totally coaching. It's really hard to compete with Bama, UGA and the rest of the SEC.
October 23rd, 2022 at 9:21 PM ^
I disagree with this. A&M's problem is that they think, after aaaaallllllll they've already been through, that they can just show up and win against most teams. It's a campus culture problem that they may never fix.
October 23rd, 2022 at 10:06 PM ^
There's no telling when a program will turn things around. Remember, "Clemsoning" used to be a term of contempt that was generously applied to Dabo Swinney-coached teams. But then he won national championships, and nobody is laughing anymore.
The problem is getting the program over that hump. Jimbo was a good option for A&M... but so far things haven't worked out.
Texas is still waiting to see about Sark.
It's an open question. But both A&M and Texas have the infrastructure to be elite, if the programs can ever get it together.
October 24th, 2022 at 9:34 AM ^
Actually, that was before Dabo, Terry Bowden's teams started the whole "Clemsoning" thing it took awhile but Dabo ended it.
October 24th, 2022 at 9:03 AM ^
a name like Jimbo goes a long way in College Station....
October 23rd, 2022 at 10:42 PM ^
Is he taking new clients?
I'd like for him to negotiate my contract.
October 23rd, 2022 at 3:01 PM ^
I wonder if you feel pressure with that kind of guarantee. I mean what can they do to you? Hell fire me, just like Ed.
October 23rd, 2022 at 3:05 PM ^
From CBS Sports
Here is Fisher's buyout if he is fired at the conclusion of each season:

- 2023: $76,800,000
- 2024: $67,550,000
- 2025: $58,200,000
- 2026: $48,750,000
- 2027: $39,200,000
- 2028: $29,550,000

Hot Damn!

Not if you price gouge...
October 23rd, 2022 at 3:36 PM ^
That'll be the price of a gallon of milk in two years.
October 23rd, 2022 at 3:45 PM ^
Remember the good ole days when a regular sized candy bar cost $1.49?
I just saw $1.79 for one 2 days ago. Yeah, not the large size. The regular one.
October 23rd, 2022 at 4:15 PM ^
I remember when candy bars were 5 cents, no king sized at the time. I don’t know if that is a testament to inflation, or my age.
October 23rd, 2022 at 5:55 PM ^
I remember. 5 cents for a Snickers or Milky Way. My allowance was 5 cents a week. Then the price went up to 6 cents and I literally had to beg my father for a 1 cent raise. This was around 1959.
October 23rd, 2022 at 7:13 PM ^
I used to get a Chunky chocolate on the way home during my paper route. It was the 70’s and I don’t recall the cost. Thought they were the best piece of candy and were a bit more expensive than other bars. Had one a few years ago (they still make these? I’m getting one!) and it was ‘mid’ - as the kids say.
October 24th, 2022 at 8:53 AM ^
You should’ve had Jimmy Sexton negotiate with your dad. You might’ve ended up with $100/week allowance.
October 24th, 2022 at 9:26 AM ^
LOL. Yup, and guaranteed for life with no buyout.
October 23rd, 2022 at 6:00 PM ^
Yeah, I remember when there was no king size.
I remember a nickel could get more candy than I could eat. That's when there was sixlets, and other little packages of various kinds. Then sugar prices went nuts when Nixon was president, and it would take 9 cents to get the same.
On Tuesdays you could buy five hamburgers for $1.00 at a place called Chips. There was a couple kids that would bring two one dollar bills on Tuesday, and actually eat ten. Everyone was amazed at how they could eat ten. I was amazed at how a kid my age could get two one dollar bills.
October 23rd, 2022 at 7:18 PM ^
I remember in the late 60s and early 70s I could by milky way, snickers, marathon, and milk duds for $5 cents. A bottle of coke or orange crush was on 10 cents. As kids we could by a lot of candy for a quarter and we thought it was a big deal when we got a dime from the tooth fairy.
October 23rd, 2022 at 11:13 PM ^
It's age.
Used to pick up bottles off the road, take them to Dieroff's Market (Now Zingerman's) and get a mallow cup. If I found quart bottles it was a jackpot! Then I'd add a Faygo red-pop. It is amazing I still have teeth.
Those were different days. They would open the gates at Half-time for anyone to come in or out.
Do they still even make Red-Pop?
October 24th, 2022 at 12:00 PM ^
I have bought some at Meijer recently. It is hard to find though. I see the diet Faygo flavors more than regular.
October 23rd, 2022 at 6:01 PM ^
An underappreciated comment.
October 23rd, 2022 at 3:51 PM ^
if Fisher had any integrity he'd give Jameis Winston a healthy cut of that for making him look like an offensive genius and quarterback whisperer when he was neither thing. His whole rep was built off that one national championship year when his offenses were pretty pedestrian outside of that.
October 23rd, 2022 at 4:03 PM ^
Well, he made sure Jameis had plenty of crab legs.
October 23rd, 2022 at 4:19 PM ^
That would make the perfect gift, no? Offer Jameis a lifetime supply of crab legs. The FSU admins also made a few sexual harassment charges go away if I remember right, so I still hope Winston chokes on them. He seemed like a awful kid then. Maybe he's a better person now.
October 23rd, 2022 at 5:48 PM ^
Plenty of crab legs after the fact maybe. Jameis wouldnta haveta been stealing them if they woulda been at training table.
October 23rd, 2022 at 6:49 PM ^
You could say the same thing about Ken Walker and Melvin.
October 23rd, 2022 at 5:15 PM ^
Showed that to two of my friends who got headhunted from Illinois to A&M last spring and they were less than impressed.
October 24th, 2022 at 3:12 AM ^
Good Lord.
October 23rd, 2022 at 3:06 PM ^
BC just have to put up 200 yards and 5 TDs against OSU while UM defense need to hold CJ to less than 200 yards. That will change the odds.
October 23rd, 2022 at 5:19 PM ^
If Georgia wins, the rankings will be the same. If Tennessee wins, they will switch each team’s respective rankings. It literally changes nothing for the rest of the field. #itjustmeansmore
October 23rd, 2022 at 6:04 PM ^
Could be right.
I'm wondering though that if that game will make it possible that both Michigan and Ohio St could be in the playoffs?
October 23rd, 2022 at 6:47 PM ^
We need Tennessee to lose twice (once to UGA) and UGA to run the table, ie, give Bama a second loss in the SEC title game. Or have faith the Tennessee can do the same - less likely.
I'm assuming Clemson goes undefeated, now that they've gotten through the gauntlet that is Wake Forest and Syracuse - so they will get their annual ACC jerk fest undeserved invite to the playoff.
A close UM-OSU game would probably put both in at that point as any other conference champ with 1 loss (I do think TCU drops a game somewhere) won't be taken seriously.
Had Clemson lost yesterday, and UM ran the table going into CBUS and played a close game, we would have essentially been guaranteed a playoff spot. Now we need some SEC chaos for that to happen.
Best option, of course, is to just smash OSU again like last year.
October 23rd, 2022 at 7:59 PM ^
Bama could slip up in a night game at LSU the same weekend as UGA-Tennessee
