Craig Ross Appreciation Thread
The guy kills it every week on the MGoBlog roundtable and is an outstanding representative for the fanbase.
On a side note, has anyone read his book "The Obscene Diaries of a Michigan Fan"? I've just recently become a fan of Craig and thus have not read it yet. It seems like a great read in the off-season though.

craig is a champ. and i eagerly await his NYPPA prediction for our game vs. sparty. he was closer on the PSU game than any pundit i'm aware of.

I didn't know Craig's mom was an MGoBlogger.

Wow. I got a guy who hasn't commented since Ohio State last year to comment.

Hi....Stephen???
October 21st, 2022 at 4:39 PM ^
Would you like to play a game?
October 21st, 2022 at 4:59 PM ^
Very underrated comment right here!! But it’s more like “Would … you … like … to … play … a … game?”
October 21st, 2022 at 5:23 PM ^
How about a nice game of chess?
No! I want to play global thermonuclear war!
October 21st, 2022 at 6:31 PM ^
Think I've got him beat. LOOOOONG time listener, 2nd time poster?
October 22nd, 2022 at 10:25 AM ^
You've posted a bit more than that. You can see your history by clicking on your username.

I think I may have you beat?

And, to be honest, I’ve never seen the point system. Ever.

I sometimes find that Brian comes down too hard on CR during the roundtable. About a year ago, CR spent some time watching Caleb Houstan's high school tape. CR had some less than positive comments about Caleb Houstan, and the majority of the roundtable came down hard on him. Well, CR was right in his assessment of Caleb Houstan. CR knows his shit.
October 21st, 2022 at 4:11 PM ^
I remember that - it was definitely foretelling.
October 21st, 2022 at 4:36 PM ^
We were all envisioning our 5 star dunking on everyone and draining 3s when he said. I later gave CR props for calling it how he sees it.
October 21st, 2022 at 5:07 PM ^
Houstan and Diabate suffered from Shea Patterson disease. Had they been a 3 or 4 star like Iggy and played as well as they did they'd be appreciated a lot more. (Still maybe in the Jordan Poole category.) Being a 5-star we expect Weber/Howard/Rose level performances and are diappointed with anything less.
October 21st, 2022 at 5:14 PM ^
Yes, that's how expectations work.
October 21st, 2022 at 6:34 PM ^
Brian comes down too hard a lot of the time on just about anyone. I still like him and admire his work.
October 21st, 2022 at 7:14 PM ^
It’s Brian’s mom!
October 21st, 2022 at 11:19 PM ^
Now that would be a great podcast- Sam hosting everyone’s Moms.
October 21st, 2022 at 4:05 PM ^
Craig is awesome - I highly value his contributions and balanced but powerfully stated takes and his humility.
October 21st, 2022 at 4:16 PM ^
When I first started listening, I thought he was an old curmudgeon who complained about refs and talked about the 50s.
After listening more, he is my favorite person on the roundtable. Brings a great perspective and is hilarious. Love him.
October 21st, 2022 at 5:55 PM ^
I like Craig because I’m a curmudgeon who talks about the 70s
October 21st, 2022 at 4:22 PM ^
I love Craig. I love when Sam would have a conversation with Craig one-on-one before the Roundtable. The weirder he gets, the more I like him. German philosophy? Please and thank you. Michigan football in 1893? Of course. Student life in the 50's/60's? Tell me more. Referee conspiracy theories? I'll listen.
October 21st, 2022 at 6:20 PM ^
You are spot on! Love Craig and really appreciate when he goes off on a tangent.
October 21st, 2022 at 4:25 PM ^
love hearing Craig's opinion ... quite knowledgable about all things Michigan. Genius move to have Craig on the MGoBlog Roundtable !!! Also sits next to my son in Michigan Stadium ....
Go Blue!
October 21st, 2022 at 4:29 PM ^
One other thing. CR often takes his roundtable call from Hawaii. That's like 2am his time!! Dedication!!
October 21st, 2022 at 4:50 PM ^
Craig is thoughtful and interesting all the time, but I particularly love the bits he brings in on the introductions. Poor Sam:
"Seth, how have you been!" "Great! <Followed by funny anecdote of 20 words or less>"
"Brian, how have you been!" "Good. <Followed by a few seconds of painful dead air>"
"Craig, how are you doing?" "You know, I read Brian's UFR this week and it started me thinking about changing social mores during Venice at the time of the Medicis. <Launches into 90 second analogy ending with> And that's why having JJ in your offense is like having a poisoned ring during a dinner party - it makes all the threats harder to defend."
(To be clear, I love all the guests, and listen every week, but the introductions are always a hoot.)
October 21st, 2022 at 9:21 PM ^
You should've mentioned the Trotsky Ice Axe, that was one of the early greats.
October 21st, 2022 at 4:59 PM ^
Thanks Craig
October 21st, 2022 at 5:30 PM ^
Craig is the best. Wish he was on the podcast more often. I really wanted to read his book, but the font in the copy I got was so small that it was not enjoyable to read (sucks being old).
October 21st, 2022 at 5:44 PM ^
Word on the street is Craig catches the ladies eyes in a classic gentleman kind of way.
October 21st, 2022 at 6:09 PM ^
I don't trust anyone with two first names.
October 21st, 2022 at 6:10 PM ^
He might have three.
You might have to reevaluate!
October 21st, 2022 at 6:36 PM ^
I enjoy Craig’s contributions.
October 21st, 2022 at 6:36 PM ^
Here's to you, Craig. *raises glass*
October 21st, 2022 at 6:40 PM ^
Anyone who can use the power struggle between the Mensheviks and the Bolsheviks or between Leon Trotsky and Uncle Joe Stalin to put bad refereeing in the B1G in context is OK by me.
Note: User name checks out when it comes to getting most of CR's obscure historical references. I'll save the rest of you jamokes from having to type it out...
October 21st, 2022 at 7:03 PM ^
Here here!
October 21st, 2022 at 7:39 PM ^
I hope I am someday able to buy Craig lunch so we can talk about Michigan football and the Russian Revolution.
October 21st, 2022 at 8:21 PM ^
Both of Craig's books are great. I flew through them. I would recommend them. It took a bit of a search to find them. But they are very good.
I definitely wish that Sam Webb still had the Craig Ross hour. Those were amazing.
CR would probably be the best dinner/party guest ever!
October 21st, 2022 at 10:06 PM ^
What happened to Ed tho?
October 21st, 2022 at 10:22 PM ^
I sensed that Brian and Ed never got along and that Ed would therefore be the odd man out. Just my take. Along those lines whatever happened to Marcus ray?
I feel like there’s gotta be a lot of good WTKA behind the scenes gossip…
October 22nd, 2022 at 8:51 PM ^
Brian did not like Ed and said so explicitly in the MgoComments some years ago. Also, Ed added nothing to the round table. Sounded like a guy who ran regression models to predict game outcomes but didn’t actually watch the games (this comes from a guy with two business degrees who has been guilty of the same!)
October 22nd, 2022 at 9:10 PM ^
Be that as it may, I personally liked having a different voice (figurative and literal). The roundtable and the post-game recap pods are pretty redundant with Brian and Seth being on both.
October 21st, 2022 at 10:10 PM ^
Craig is great. I really enjoy the Thursday roundtable. Always enjoy his perspective.
October 21st, 2022 at 11:19 PM ^
Wow. I am humblified.
All I can say is what I believe; that most of you could do as well or better than me and that it is an honor to be a part of this fan base, especially the MGoBlog posters.
Please stop by and share a beer.
October 22nd, 2022 at 12:07 AM ^
Where can we find you?
October 22nd, 2022 at 8:57 AM ^
Craig, you are amazing and the Michigan fanbase is truly lucky to have you. I want you to look at that through the lens of "one of the most prestigious and respected programs in the history of North America is lucky to have you speaking about them in a public forum."
We all wish you nothing but the best. If you and I are ever in the same pub, you aren't paying for a single one of your own drinks.
October 22nd, 2022 at 12:06 AM ^
He’s a good man. And thorough!
October 22nd, 2022 at 5:58 AM ^
Ditto these positive comments.
