Michigan / Clemson flip in AP Poll
October 9th, 2022 at 2:08 PM ^
If they're going to do that, they should flip us back if we beat PSU.
October 9th, 2022 at 2:22 PM ^
If Tennessee beats Bama, they will Move into top 2 and I doubt Bama drops out due to SEC bias.
October 9th, 2022 at 3:18 PM ^
I don't think that would be deserving of Bama to drop out of the top 25 totally but should be #10 or lower.
I am for sure looking forward to seeing that game though.
October 9th, 2022 at 6:46 PM ^
TN would deserve to jump us if they beat Bama. Bama, after struggling against TX and losing to TN shouldn’t be in the top 6, but they will be.
October 10th, 2022 at 8:09 AM ^
"TN would deserve to jump us if they beat Bama."
Not if Michigan beats PSU.
October 9th, 2022 at 2:36 PM ^
If = When
October 9th, 2022 at 3:19 PM ^
Right, some of these flips are ridiculous
GA and Alabama haven’t earned their rankings with 3 close wins where they haven’t looked good. GA was lucky to beat a poor Missouri team. Alabama had 2 last second lucky wins. One against a good TX team. Yet they keep flipping back and forth instead of moving down.
Ohio should be 1. They’ve handled everyone so far including a decent ND team
Clemson had to come back against Wake. Clemson could be 2 though they haven’t played anyone except Wake and there would be no reason based on last week to move them above M.
Michigan’s handled everyone but its hard to know how good Iowa, Indiana, and Maryland really are and we really can’t say they are a #2 team.
October 9th, 2022 at 3:24 PM ^
Don't worry about this at all. In a few weeks we'll have our first CFP rankings and everything we thought ranking-wise is going to get recalibrated.
October 9th, 2022 at 3:49 PM ^
Can’t believe I’m agreeing with a buckeye, but just win baby
October 9th, 2022 at 6:28 PM ^
This is a correct opinion.
October 9th, 2022 at 7:29 PM ^
Plenty of time to work everything out. I just find it hilarious that James Madison is ranked and not MSU or ND....lol. We win we are in. Life is good.
Go Blue!!!!
October 10th, 2022 at 8:13 AM ^
I thought this might happen. This weekend will separate the genuine teams from the pretenders. That said, if we beat Penn State, I think we'll be rewarded and back in top 4.
October 9th, 2022 at 2:09 PM ^
It’s been pretty close the last few weeks, so no surprise. Win and advance.
October 9th, 2022 at 3:30 PM ^
Yep, these early polls don't mean a thing. Just something to argue about and discuss
October 9th, 2022 at 4:42 PM ^
They must have some influence, though. Over the rankings committee, I mean. Even if they try to avoid it.
October 9th, 2022 at 5:36 PM ^
What you see is the early maneuvering to keep the SEC (ESPN) with 2 teams in the playoffs which is exactly why the playoffs need to be expanded to 12 immediately but guess who doesn't want it to happen until 2026 or later: SEC commissioner Greg Sankey.
October 10th, 2022 at 8:59 AM ^
See, I heard the opposite: Sankey wants a 12-team playoff because it essentially guarantees at least 2, or more likely 3 or 4, bids for the SEC. The other conferences want it to stay at 4 because there will always be pressure to have 4 different conferences in the absence of very compelling evidence for a 2nd SEC team, and thus reduces the SEC's shot at a title.
October 9th, 2022 at 11:17 PM ^
They moved Clemson ahead of UM on a weekend where we beat Indiana on the road 31-10 (#84 SP+) and they beat BC on the road 31-3 (#94 SP+)??
WTF, how does this make sense??
October 9th, 2022 at 2:11 PM ^
Also, good for Brett and the Illini.
October 9th, 2022 at 2:40 PM ^

October 9th, 2022 at 2:12 PM ^
If we beat PSU it will flip
October 9th, 2022 at 2:27 PM ^
Flip? If we beat PSU that is probably the best win until Alabama plays TN. So, based on that, shouldn't they be in the top 2?
October 9th, 2022 at 4:05 PM ^
If we crush PSU by 20+ then PSU sucks and Michigan hasn’t played anyone. If we win by 10, PSU sucks and Michigan hasn’t played anyone. If we win by less than 10, PSU sucks and we should have won by more. If we lose, see I told you Michigan wasn’t good and didn’t play anyone. Am I doing this right?
October 9th, 2022 at 4:41 PM ^
This is exactly what happens. Any Michigan win is simply cause the other team sucks, was sick, it was snowing, etc...
October 9th, 2022 at 8:04 PM ^
Sustained success changes this. I could never see a 1-loss Michigan in the playoffs (current rules) but you will almost always see a 1-loss Bama in.
October 9th, 2022 at 8:47 PM ^
Didn't a 1-loss Michigan make it into the playoffs last year?
October 9th, 2022 at 9:15 PM ^
Well yes, of course. Chalk that up to a long day. But if I recall correctly (and I may not because of the first screw up), we stayed ahead of MSU meaning pollsters realized that was just a loss on paper and not in reality (ref hose job).
October 9th, 2022 at 2:12 PM ^
Rutgers now has the longest streak among P5 teams of being unranked - prior to this week it was Illinois.
October 9th, 2022 at 2:14 PM ^
James Madison?
October 9th, 2022 at 2:33 PM ^
This is an even stranger collection of 25 teams.
October 9th, 2022 at 2:48 PM ^
JMU has been consistently very good the last few years at the FCS level and moved up to the sunbelt this year. They have mostly crushed their opponents and probably would give a heck of a game to a good portion of the B1G this year. Don’t sleep on JMU, they are the new App State. And don’t schedule them
October 9th, 2022 at 2:15 PM ^
Penn state is top 10 (thankfully not 11); opportunity to get another top 10 win and further crush the narrative that Michigan and coach Harbaugh cannot win big games.
October 9th, 2022 at 2:18 PM ^
That narrative is still out there? Didn't we take care of that last year?
October 9th, 2022 at 2:28 PM ^
Media wants to revive the dabo/Clemson is back storyline too
October 9th, 2022 at 3:00 PM ^
He’s 1-4 against top-4 teams on the road at night, with driving rains and winds.
October 9th, 2022 at 3:24 PM ^
Well, I didn't know that. Sounds like UM should halve his salary for such a poor showing!
October 9th, 2022 at 2:17 PM ^
I kind of thought Clemson would jump us last week. So I'm not exactly surprised.
October 9th, 2022 at 2:17 PM ^
Playing that juggernaut BC was impressive apparently. But UMs only job is to win. The rest will follow.
October 9th, 2022 at 5:05 PM ^
Exactly. Just follow the same path as last year one game at a time.
October 9th, 2022 at 7:56 PM ^
except for that whole losing to msu thing
October 9th, 2022 at 9:40 PM ^
Yes, except that.
October 9th, 2022 at 2:18 PM ^
I so want Clemson to play Iowa at Iowa.
October 9th, 2022 at 2:35 PM ^
I want Clemson to play OSU every year. At least with the SEC there is true competition, I mean a true duopoly, I mean challenger to the throne. What system exactly is an NCAA "conference"?
October 9th, 2022 at 2:19 PM ^
Also let’s hope Illinois keeps winning as that would be another ranked team we would play at the end of the year.
October 9th, 2022 at 2:23 PM ^
Interesting voting. Thanks. Beat PSU. Agree it will flip again as long a Michigan wins next week.
October 9th, 2022 at 2:30 PM ^
Psst, I don't care
October 9th, 2022 at 2:58 PM ^
Yet you cared enough to comment.
October 9th, 2022 at 3:39 PM ^
How is this some kind of flex? I said I don't care about them flipping, not that someone made a post.
October 9th, 2022 at 2:32 PM ^
Jeez.
Do they watch the games?
Clemson is not that good this year.
October 9th, 2022 at 3:20 PM ^
Come on we already know teams like Bama, Clemson, UGA get votes because what they’ve done recently.
it really doesn’t matter if 〽️ wins the games they will be in the playoffs.
