Remember when his brother threw a bat at an umpire?
August 25th, 2022 at 7:27 PM ^
I forgot about Delmon Young too, until now.
I remembered seeing a video clip some time ago about Delmon' bat toss, and sure enough, found it on YouTube.
What an idiot/head case he was, no wonder he washed out of the Majors before age 30.

He was incredible in the playoffs for the Tigers though. Big hit after big hit

Jerry Lumpe
Dave Wickersham
Tobin Rote
Joe Sparma
Tom Veryzer
Roger Crozier
Bob Probert
Bob "Peckerhead" Cerv (there's a story behind the nickname)

Fred Julian
Dave DeBusschere
Joe Don Looney
Dick "Night Train" Lane
John Henry Johnson (Lions)
Henry Hill
Rich Hill
Dave and Mike Hill (brothers/PGA golfers)
Fred "The Bear" Gladding
---------------
For all I know about him, Bob Cerv very likely does NOT deserve the nickname "peckerhead". He had a 12 year up-and-down career in the 50's thru early 60's including 3 different stints with the Yankees and hit 212 career HRs, so he wasn't exactly chopped liver.
A buddy of mine, "Doug", hung that nickname on Cerv back in the 80's out of frustration over the great classic board game of Strat-O-Matic Baseball. A bunch of us got together pretty regularly at Doug's house to watch sports, drink beer, and often we ended up playing Strat-O-Matic. Cerv became a frequent "draft pick" because no matter who had his card it usually seemed be unusually productive and lucky... UNLESS Doug drew his card, in which case Cerv always went hitless.

robf's list is great. and those names are very real - roger crozier, probert, rote, those are all classic sports guys from the 50'-70's.

Judging from that list, you must be as old as I am. Condolences.

I prefer not to remember any of them. I will never, ever forgive those bastard Twinkies for not losing the 1987 divisional playoffs like they were supposed to.
And to hell with their homer hankies and the fucking Baggie Dome, too. (Tiger fans of my age will know what I mean.)
August 26th, 2022 at 10:27 AM ^
As a diehard 12 year old growing up in Minneapolis in 1987, I revel in this hate!
Also, the Steve Lombardozzi shout out wins! Randy Bush - utility outfielder with an All Star adult film name - also says "hi".
