I have a cousin who briefly dated Dave Rozema during or shortly after her high school senior year. She confirmed the stories that Rozema was truly a doofus.

I actually don't mind this topic. I upvoted you, OP. Some good names on there.
My problem is that particularly when it comes to tennis players, I can never remember if a guy is still playing or if he's been retired for 10 years.
For example, Roger Federer. I don't know if he's still the best player in the world or if he hasn't played in a decade.
You could have put a gun to my head and I would have said the same thing about Jim Courier.

Hey, do you know anything about the Minnesota Vikings? I was just wonderin.
I remember how many times I watched Fran Tarkenton lead a come back. No lead was safe for the other team.
And Alan Page seemed like he was from another world where football was so good we in this world couldn't understand it.

That list certainly dates me, and yes, the Vikings were an early passion for me. Both Tarkenton and Page were fun to watch. And in the "cool story, bro" category: I overlapped briefly with Alan Page at the Minnesota Attorney General's office before he was elected to the MN Supreme Court. I ended up standing next to him in line for cake at a monthly birthday celebration and was absolutely awestruck when he introduced himself to me and I got to shake his hand.

Thanks for refreshing my memory about Sir Francis! Much appreciated.
August 26th, 2022 at 1:04 PM ^
You bet! I wonder who came up with the "Sir Francis" moniker, but it did seem fitting. For many years, I had a Sports Illustrated cover on my bulletin board with Tarkenton on it with the caption, "He's Frantastic!"
August 26th, 2022 at 4:22 PM ^
Not sure. If I had to guess? It would be Howard Cosell, a/k/a "Humble Howard". I enjoyed watching him (Tarkenton) both with the Vikes and the Giants. 👍

I saw Karim Garcia clear the right field roof at Tiger Stadium. Tremendous power but couldn't find any consistency
The Tigers lost the game 9-1
