OT - Roethlisberger on NIL: "They're coddled at a young age"
In which your humble OP throws the MGoBoard the easiest alley-oop lob pass ever:
Ben on today's players: "Now, this new NIL stuff, which is unbelievable. They’re treated so special. They’re coddled at a young age because college coaches need them to win, too. I know coach [Terry] Hoeppner never coddled me [at Miami-Ohio]. Neither did [Bill] Cowher.” #Steelers

If there is someone who knows about "coddling" it would be Ben Roethlisberger.
Exactly. Wrong role model. He obviously didn't learn from the tough love he received.
Ben Roethlisberger = coddled cheese
Deepening the irony of accusing others of being coddled, Findlay, Ohio-native Roethlisberger also famously pouted and wouldn't consider then recent national champion Ohio State as a college destination, all because Roethlisberger was mad that Jim Tressel refused clear the decks for him and had insisted on simultaneously recruiting Justin Zwick to the QB position.
To be fair, there is probably more to this story.
His HS coach started his son at QB and Roethlisberger didn’t play QB till his senior year. That probably is how he ended up being overlooked.
amazingly, his HS coach actually became an Ohio congressman. Which is classic depending on how you evaluate decision making.
I blame the Rooneys too. They didn't have to keep him around. I truly believe in second chances, but they should have un-assed him and let him find redemption playing for the Raiders.
But no, franchise QBs are too hard to find.
I grew up a Steelers fan. They lost me as a fan when they didn't fire Roethlisberger. I don't care that he retired, the Rooneys are still there.
I love having Sunday afternoons in the fall free to get stuff done instead of screaming at the television. I do enough of that on Saturdays in the fall.
I can't watch NFL after spending half the day Saturday watching Michigan. My family needs attention too.
Dvr is your friend
I have no interest in Ben Roethlisberger's opinion on anything, ever
This is the correct response.
Breaking news: washed up, has-been, thinks the young guys have it better than he did and cries about it, a tale as old as time.
Ben Rothlesberger is a lot of things, certified creep, likely rapist, fortunate in being picked by the Steelers and not by the Browns. He is a shitty, shitty, person…but he isn’t washed up and will likely be a Hall of Fame selection. Still, a piece of shit
Rapist POS can fuck right off
^^^^ This ^^^^
He's lucky he did that when he did. Just a few years later and his career would've been over (the NFL decided to finally wake up after Ray Rice). He should've been banned from the league nevertheless.
Deshaun Watson says hi
Yeah true. Don't know why he's not out of the league, f***ing embarrassing.
Also a self-admitted porn addict, which was maybe the only funny part of his character.
Porn addiction is one of the most overlooked addictions because of how normalized it is. The amount of divorces that are caused by porn is sad.
Yeah!!!
I didn't know much of the rape allegations. The bathroom story looks really damning. The article said the victim went straight to the police. Without being gross, how was there not evidence to convict?
Not sure they took a rape kit, or it was botched. And the security camera tapes inside the bar were mysteriously deleted/copied over.
I believe the victim, understandably, didn't want the media hoopla of having to confront her accuser and losing her anyonymity in a court of law. i could be wrong
This. Believe she bowed out of supporting prosecution knowing what she was going to have to go through and also I believe she may have been pressured by others.
I lived in Pittsburgh at the time, and absolutely nobody was surprised. He's a well-known creep.
Not the king of self-awareness, obviously. If Ben Roethlisberger thinks that he is an advertisement for tough love. . . I'm gonna go give my kid another hug, then drive her to her self-defense class.
I guess if your actions never face consequences, why develop a sense of self awareness
Ben would look at you cross eyed and confused if you tried to explain the irony of his statement.
Fuck the steelers
Prefers to get his special treatment and coddling of the favorable legal department variety.
Says a rapist that got special treatment to avoid a trial...
Maybe Ben Roethlisberger of all people should sit out any discussion about privilege and entitlement.
Considering the special treatment he got for his little predicament, I'm not sure his opinion on degrading others for getting special treatment amounts to anything.
Had he not been a Super Bowl winning star QB, if he was just a regular Joe Schmo like the rest of us, he would've been in jail.
Amen to that.
Partially right message; one of the worst possible messengers. Until he takes full, public accountability for his own transgressions, and the people he hurt, physically and emotionally, I have no desire to consider his opinions.
Agreed. His message isn't necessarily wrong. He's just one of the worst people you could ever ask to deliver that message.
It's like having to listen to OJ complain about the loopholes in the justice system.
He raped a woman in a bathroom of a bar and got away with it. Pretty coddled.
Jim on today's players: "Now, this new NIL stuff, which is unbelievable. They’re treated so special. They’re coddled at a young age because college coaches need them to win, too. I know coach [Bo] Schembechler never coddled me [at Michigan]. Neither did [Mike] Ditka.”
Could easily be Harbaugh's words if he wasn't coaching in college.
This dude used to catcall my good friend who lived in the same neighborhood back in the day.
She would jog along the roads in the neighborhood, and he would say stuff as he would drive by or when she went by his house on her run.
She was also...very not legal.
I just laughed at this whole thing. I guarantee Ben was coddled in college. You don’t get the ego he got without being coddled
This is no different than the guy who claims his hard he worked to get to where he is then come to find out Daddy gave him everything to succeed.
Dunno. He was in my dorm and I knew him socially. I never saw anything granted to him that wasn't also available to any other athlete at the school - being a QB at The Miami University does not impart the sort of advantages it does in Ann Arbor or the other Miami.
Ben is lucky he wasn’t 10 years younger — because he would have been out of the league.
Seriously, fuck this hypocrite piece of shit and Steelers fans who still praise the ground this guy walks on.
Double post.
Entitledcoddeleddouchebag says what?
"GET OFF MY RAPIST LAWN!"
Fuck Ben Roethlisberger. Piece of shit rapist.
He was a star QB at a MAC school enjoying historical success and does not think he was coddled? Stunning lack of awareness
He’s the kind of guy who doesn’t wear a helmet on his motorcycle and then is surprised when he crashes and is mangled
logged in just to add that he's a massive piece of shit.
