'23 FB Recruiting - where the 'croots at?
Seems a bit odd that we haven't landed a 2023 football recruit yet. It's not super surprising given the whole COVID situation and the inability to take visits, attend camps, and get scouted in person. But, looking back, we've typically had someone in the fold by now. Here are the dates for when the first recruit (that actually stuck) committed to Michigan:
2021 - Marlin Klein - 9/20 (15 months out from early signing day)
2020 - Giovanni El-Hadi - 3/19 (21 months out)
2019 - Andre Seldon - 6/18 (18 months out)
2018 - Nolan Rumler - 7/17 (19 months out)
Quarterbacks sometimes commit early, but I haven't heard anything to indicate that Dante Moore (QB) is deciding anytime soon. Amir Herring (OL), Semaj Morgan (WR), and Adam Samaha (K) are local and have some buzz to UM, but nothing announced yet. Any thoughts on some early commit candidates?

I guess we should appreciate being in a place when we have to look at recruiting classes two years down the road to complain. Good on you Prince Nacho...you are a true UM fan.
October 19th, 2021 at 2:44 PM ^
even more of a UM fan if he did what I did and inferred that we have no 2023 fullback (FB in his title) 'croots (sic) and that is cause for concern.

So asking questions is complaining now?
October 19th, 2021 at 11:46 AM ^
Where my croots at, from the front to back
Well is you feelin' that, well put one hand up
Can you repeat that, tryin' to take my man
See I don't need that, so don't play yourself...

Well considering that Alabama has exactly zero 2023 commits right now and Ohio State has all of one I dont think we're behind the 8 ball TOO much OP.
The meaningless shit people have time to worry about. Sigh.
October 19th, 2021 at 12:08 PM ^
OTHO Oregon State has a commitment from 370th ranked TE Cooper Jensen.
So maybe we should be worried.
October 19th, 2021 at 12:09 PM ^
And our commit is a TE. We’re freaking out over a safety in that class over on our site though so don’t give OP too much crap.
October 19th, 2021 at 4:05 PM ^
Iowa already has 2 commitments to their 2024 class. We should all be very worried!
October 19th, 2021 at 12:49 PM ^
The irony of this comment is... amusing.
October 19th, 2021 at 12:54 PM ^
In the OPs defense
1. The title was pretty clear
2. The OP provided actual data to show that in the last 4 years, we have had a commit by this point.
I would argue that this post is way higher quality than some of the posts we have seen in the last couple days and if the site did have a more regular recruiting column, it would in fact probably occasionally talk about likely 2023s to commit early.
October 19th, 2021 at 12:55 PM ^
To be fair, you could say that about recruiting in general, let alone 2 years out recruiting.
October 19th, 2021 at 11:51 AM ^
Pet peeve of mine is the use of ‘croots (along with Natty).
The ‘23 recruits are sophomores, so this is way early
October 19th, 2021 at 11:57 AM ^
2023 recruits are juniors. Current HS seniors will graduate in 2022. Also hate 'croots and Natty. Would add "tuddy" to the list as well. Cringeworthy.
October 19th, 2021 at 1:02 PM ^
Along with adding “-ie” to every players name like Stevie Breaston.
Referring to yards gained in terms of money, like “he ran for a buck fifty on the ground”
Glizzy for hotdogs.
And saying any player who does something impressive is “different” or “built different”…naturally followed by this emoji: ?
BRB, got some kids to chase off of my lawn
October 19th, 2021 at 1:39 PM ^
...if we don't get the good 'croots, we won't win the Natty!
Sorry, couldn't help myself. I'll let myself out.
October 19th, 2021 at 3:08 PM ^
Thanks for correcting me, math was never my strong suit
October 19th, 2021 at 12:18 PM ^
Add 'crootin to the list.

Well, I happen to enjoy croots. I will sometimes cube some French or Italian bread from Whole Foods and make them myself along with an appropriate salad and, if I am feeling rather fancy, a homemade vinaigrette.
.....wait, those are crout-ONS....sorry about the confusion.

It's OK, I'm used to you making mistakes.

Now, now, if you're going to complain and hurl abuse, that's what the Mod Sticky is for. I invite you to say anything you wish about me to Brian or Seth. You certainly don't need to dog me in every thread because it won't change a thing as I have nothing for which I should be contrite in this instance.
That said, well-played on this first jab. I actually smiled.

They probably aren't interested in dissenting opinions either. But, at the end of the day it's Brians blog so I submit to that.
I have nothing for which I should be contrite in this instance.
I have no problem with either shutting it down nor your opinion. But, when you shut it down, call the guy selfish (and insinuate anyone that disagrees with you is selfish too), but leave your opinion in the thread as the only voice...that doesn't seem right. Either leave your opinion out so it's just a news story or allow others the chance to comment.
That said, well-played on this first jab. I actually smiled.
Glad I could make you smile. Despite my frustration with how you're handling this, I still like to make other smile :)

The coaches can't decide which random 3 stars to offer to piss everyone off until the services really start issuing grades on the 11th graders.
Right now offers would have the risk of accidentally getting a 5 star or high 4 stars and we can't be having that!
October 19th, 2021 at 12:16 PM ^
I know right!! Did you see that unranked LB out of Chicago that M offered last week just got offered by OSU?? (We are totally in their heads...)
Reminds me of that no name 3* WR out of CA that M "reached" for back in 2018. Kid's name was Olafe..or something like that - glad we didn't get him....wonder what ever happened to that guy?

He’s a star snowman in a movie series, Frozen
October 19th, 2021 at 12:40 PM ^
Wish we would've had him in the Snow Game against IU. That game would have been WAAAYYYY more comfortable...

Let it go.

Definitely in favor of raising the point value to start new threads to a minimum of 1000 points. Or maybe the mods could have an auto delete function after -50 down votes. I think the community does a good job of policing things.
October 19th, 2021 at 12:10 PM ^
Not bad ideas at all but if we're going to get real crazy with the programming (and I'm taking about WILD stuff like the ability to edit a post) I would humbly suggest taking away the point threshold altogether HOWEVA if you create a thread that generates more than 50 aggregate downvotes you lose the ability to create new threads for 30 days.
Mods can always step in and nuke someone who really goes far afield but an auto-generated "time out chair" would do wonders to stop the nutters like Snazzy McDazzy who genuinely believe their every random thought deserves it's own thread.

LMAO! MGrow, I always enjoy reading your posts about the simple things that could probably be coded by a group high school students and yet remain absent as functions on our beloved blog. Cheers to you, friend!
October 19th, 2021 at 12:57 PM ^
Yeah, lets not get carried away here. Its still nearly impossible to find your post after more than 17 people reply to a thread, so stopping people from creating a post just to get some attention would prob put this board to a halt.
October 19th, 2021 at 12:56 PM ^
I know what you mean but some of those non-politics based threads created some hilarious comments. Brings out the creativity in snark from many of the commenters. I sometimes enjoy those.....
October 19th, 2021 at 12:23 PM ^
Perhaps we need to start a massive Twitter Army to Tweet at them directly to find out what's going on. Sounds like a great and logical plan!
October 19th, 2021 at 7:41 PM ^
Be sure to tell them how stupid they are for not committing to Michigan yet. That always works.
October 19th, 2021 at 12:33 PM ^
High school
October 19th, 2021 at 12:36 PM ^
Why, still in high school, of course.

Better English title:
Where are the football recruits for the class of 2023?
Don't end a sentence with a preposition.
October 19th, 2021 at 1:51 PM ^
What are you talking about? I will do whatever I want to. What a silly thing to even think of. Prepositions are a fine thing to end a sentence with. It’s not something you need to look down at. Or look down on. This old rule is something to move away from.
October 19th, 2021 at 2:05 PM ^
Reminds me of a joke my professor told me:
A freshman had just finished his first classes and was eager to get to studying. He walked by a woman sitting on a bench who seemed at home in the diag. He stopped and asked, "Excuse me, ma'am, could you tell me where the library is at?"
She looked up from her book, and said, "Young man, you're a student at the University of Michigan. You should know that you're not supposed to end a sentence with a preposition. Why don't you try asking me that again?"
He felt a shock go through him, then some anger, and said, "Okay. Could you tell me where the library is at, bitch?"
October 19th, 2021 at 2:13 PM ^
In 2021 that professor would be immediately shit-canned.
October 19th, 2021 at 2:19 PM ^
It was office hours. I'm no narc.
October 19th, 2021 at 12:45 PM ^
They all agreed to not commit until this post. Thanks for taking so long.

Michigan is in on a ton of top national recruits in 2023. This new staff is much more averse to taking guys because they're convenient; they appear to be very picky about assembling their own board and trying to get the exact guys we want. Obviously, as in any year, we won't land all the big name guys we're after, but given recent success on the field and the more rigorous and savvy approach to recruiting, I'm pretty hopeful that 2023 will be a very nice class for Michigan
