While it's incredibly early, Michigan seems to be in the lead for rising sophomore PG Christian Anderson Jr. While there is not much film out there of him right now, he's apparently an elite shooter and had a great high school and AAU season given his age. He's still slight and growing at 5'8" 125, but we'll see how he continues to grow physically and as a player. His recruitment is still young, but we at least appear to have a lead for a kid who is looking to be one of the better players in the 2024 class

I initially saw 5'8" and cringed, but he is only a sophomore. He should grow to 6 foot or above in 3 years i would guess.
October 6th, 2021 at 11:04 AM ^
As a pediatric nurse, he looks to have quite a large window of growth remaining...but he may top at at 5'10" to 6 foot. Lots of variability here.
I just watched a long clip of him being run through a shooting drill...pretty phenomenal. If he can shoot like this as a physically undeveloped 15 year old-OMG...where's the ceiling!!! The kid seldom misses-seldom even hits the rim...and we are talking 22 to 25 footers. Then when he steps out to the near 30 foot range and just keeps draining them-a spectacular demonstration. When you can knock down 30 footers at a 75% clip...you can shoot the rock-uncontested or not.
Are there clips of the rest of his game-didn't really see any???
October 6th, 2021 at 4:28 PM ^
How can he be a pediatric nurse if he is just a sophomore in high school?
October 6th, 2021 at 5:01 PM ^
Nice.
October 6th, 2021 at 6:30 PM ^
Ha! Clearly he is very bright.
October 6th, 2021 at 6:48 PM ^
How can you tell what height he will be? He could grow 8 inches by next year or not grow an inch. Then when he arrives at college hit a growth spurt. I had a cousin who was 5 foot 3 inches and he grew 9 inches in a year. Never grew again but from his junior year to the summer of graduation he grew those 9 inches. I am not trying to be rude but can you really tell by just looking at him. The Mayo clinic says add the mothers height plus Dad's height together add 5 inches and divide by 2. That will be his height. Now they say this is just a estimate but it lists his dad as 6 foot 4, now we need his mom's height.

FWIW, 5'8 is a generous listing for Anderson right now. Realistically, he's probably in the 5'6-5'7 range with shoes on right now. Tons of time to grow though.
October 6th, 2021 at 10:22 AM ^
Mmmm. 5'6 at 15-16 growing to 6'? I guess we have a lot of time to witness that. We need elite 6'0+ point guards to bolster defense.
October 6th, 2021 at 10:26 AM ^
Have you forgotten about the success of Simpson and Smith?
October 6th, 2021 at 10:28 AM ^
Not uncommon for a young high schooler to grow 2"+ a year
October 6th, 2021 at 10:49 AM ^
I was 5'10 on my driver's license at 16. 6'5" my senior year. It happens.
October 6th, 2021 at 11:22 AM ^
I was 6’2” and 155 lbs in 7th grade just waiting for a nice growth spurt. Here I am damn near 40 years later still 6’2” (and 70 lbs heavier) and still waiting for my damn growth spurt. Oh what could have been.
October 6th, 2021 at 11:26 AM ^
6'2" is like the ideal societal height lol
October 6th, 2021 at 12:17 PM ^
6'2" is tall enough where people mention how tall you are, but not quite tall enough where you get a lot of the inconveniences of being super tall
October 6th, 2021 at 3:11 PM ^
I'm 5'7" IRL but 6'2" on Tinder
October 6th, 2021 at 12:34 PM ^
I always wanted to be 6'2" so when I get old and start to shrink I'd still be 6'. Unfortunately, I stopped at 6'
October 6th, 2021 at 11:41 AM ^
Same here, 6'2, 190 lb 8th grader. 6'2 240 lb adult BUT unless it was enough to make me a Division 1 player I am happy at 6'2.
October 6th, 2021 at 12:48 PM ^
I was 5'-11", 185 lbs in 9th grade. Now 34 years old and 5'-11", 240 lbs. Still growing, just not the right way.
October 6th, 2021 at 3:28 PM ^
Same. I was 5'7" 130 pounds when I graduated HS.
October 6th, 2021 at 4:27 PM ^
5'8" as an 8th grader, 6'-2 as a 9th grader. Grew 2 more inches, but am shrinking now in middle age. Bottom line - someone said his Dad is 6'-6!
October 6th, 2021 at 4:47 PM ^
I was 6'0 at 16, 6'2 at 18, and 6'5.5 at 20. Late bloomer. Someone ask this kid when he lost his baby teeth and started puberty!
October 6th, 2021 at 5:51 PM ^
I was 5'2" on my first license. I am now 68...have grown a fair amount-am still 5'2" ;)
October 6th, 2021 at 10:33 AM ^
He is 15 years old. His dad is supposedly 6’6. Plenty of time to grow.
October 6th, 2021 at 10:48 AM ^
Dad is around 6'3-6'4, so there is some hope with Anderson that he'll get to 6'
October 6th, 2021 at 11:18 AM ^
Then if mom is 5'6"ish or taller he will likely get as tall as his dad. If his mother is quite short then the variability can be quite significant. That, according to my wife, is the general "rule of thumb". The way he is "put together"...his long bones-tib/fib and femur look pretty growthy...and he has the upper body proportion to get as tall as his dad.
Matt, have you seen him play much? How's the rest of his game???
October 6th, 2021 at 11:26 AM ^
I have yet to see him play live. Really not much to evaluate from a kid playing 15u on the poorest shoe circuit (Under Armour).
The only things that I can say with intelligence is that Anderson clearly has range that manifests in game scenarios versus lower level competition and is very undersized at the moment.
A LOT can change in either direction over the next year as the kid potentially grows, continues to develop his game and squares off against better competition.
October 6th, 2021 at 12:30 PM ^
Are you surprised by the early offer/take? I was hoping he at least was playing against top notch competition, but it seems like there is a ton of projection at work here.
October 6th, 2021 at 12:58 PM ^
The formula for predicting height is Dad's height + Mom's height + 5 inches / 2 for boys and minus 5 inches for girls.
76 (6'4") + 66 (5'6") +5" / 2 = 6'1 1/2" Let's hope his mom is 5'7 1/2" so he can be the perfect 6'2".
Other rule of thumb is measure a kid when they are 2 years old and double that height. I had a buddy in junior high whose parents did that and he said he was going to be 6'2". His parents were 5'6" and 5'1" so I thought he was full of it. I moved and ran into him 10-12 years later. He was 6'2"
October 6th, 2021 at 2:29 PM ^
Well, don't tell your middle school buddy's Dad about your formula and how algebra works because D in your formula is not 66" if M is 61".
October 6th, 2021 at 6:00 PM ^
My wife finds the "formula" to not generally hold well if there is a significant difference between the height of the parents-finds that an individual child will then tend to strongly favor one parent or the other. As in most everything-there are exceptions to most rules.
October 6th, 2021 at 6:53 PM ^
I mentioned that formula above but you explained it way better then me. So I hope his mom is not like 4 foot 7.
October 6th, 2021 at 10:34 AM ^
Hans? My man was from the 1800's and have no idea how he could be in the 2024 class.
October 6th, 2021 at 12:11 PM ^
Right???
Please tell me his nickname is Hans!
October 6th, 2021 at 2:02 PM ^
I'm guessing no one close enough to Christian who would be giving him a nickname has any idea who HCA is
October 6th, 2021 at 11:04 AM ^
Kid can flat out shoot the ball
October 6th, 2021 at 11:04 AM ^
Kid can flat out shoot the ball
October 6th, 2021 at 11:20 AM ^
You really can say that again!!!
October 6th, 2021 at 11:59 AM ^
Feel like I read somewhere that his dad is like 6’ 6” or something, so he should sprout soon. Hope his frame adds meat as well
October 6th, 2021 at 12:20 PM ^
We'll have a stub when he drops today but not going to bother with a Hello this year. I don't think a 2024 commitment means anything right now.
October 6th, 2021 at 3:07 PM ^
Yeah, i don't understand the commit 2.5 years in advance thing. Really it just means we lead. What if he doesn't grow? Does not develop? Then we still take him? No, we wouldn't.
And the flip side - there is a ton of time for him to decommit.
October 6th, 2021 at 12:45 PM ^
Update: Anderson is planning on committing today at 4:30pm. Looks like we're going to have our first 2024 commit before we get a 2023 commit
October 6th, 2021 at 1:45 PM ^
I’ve never really understood the benefit to these types of commitments to either side. Maybe an elite quarterback who can help pull a large class together but in bball it really doesn’t make sense.
October 6th, 2021 at 2:57 PM ^
I trust Juwan. I understand he's a great kid with huge upside and talent.
October 6th, 2021 at 4:03 PM ^
I'm curious what you believe the downside is to this? The ultimate goal in the game of basketball is to score the ball-and this young man can do it in spades. And furthermore, he can do it in a way that demands special attention from a defense. A player that can alter a defense is invaluable-especially if it presents in a Jerry West, Seth Curry or Duncan Robinson manner. The skill of this young player is off-the-charts unique and invaluable...and will open up the floor for his teammates. Juwan Howard is a very clever coach-he knows how to employ/exploit individual gifts to the benefit of the greater good. the upside is to good to pass on.
October 6th, 2021 at 3:26 PM ^
His growth may depend on his family. Hope his mother and father are tall. Hope size is in the family.
October 6th, 2021 at 6:14 PM ^
Size matters, that’s what she said
October 6th, 2021 at 4:41 PM ^
And apparently he committed
October 6th, 2021 at 4:50 PM ^
Committed. Where’s the hello post?
