META: Ace resigns from MGoBlog (via Twitter)
O/U on this thread getting locked for foolishness? 18 minutes?
someone on here posted how proud they were that WD busted his ass and gets to live his dream of becoming a UM student
That would be mgrowold who posted that recently.
Under. But only because there's no embed or link.
Yes, I for one am going to be interested in WHY he left, given that his departure (apparently) coincides with today's still more damning Bo (k)news.
A link/imbed would be nice.
Also, IBD.
EDIT: A graceful exit thread. Good luck, Ace.
Thank you, Ace. All the best.
All ya gotta do is wish Ace the best in his future endeavors, and that’s the last post needed on the thread.
good luck, Ace.
Best of luck to Ace. He was an ace contributor to this site and our community was lucky to have him. Wishing him good health and success.
He's responsible for a lot of lost productivity for me at work, so I'm sure my employer will be thrilled.
Thanks for all your work, Ace, and good luck with whatever's next.
Good luck to Ace and I wish nothing but good fortunes for him in the future. The kid has had to deal with far more life difficulties than most of us.
As someone who has managed folks for a long time - including those who became personally close to me - it's hard not to read between the lines as to what happened following the "controversies" that have erupted over the past few months. I certainly don't envy Brian right now, and wish Ace all the best moving forward.
It never gets easy, but like you said, all you can do is wish the person the best and move on. Be honest, be direct, that's all you can do.
It’s that, or Ace actually decided to move on of his own volition. 10 years is a long time to stay at one place, especially if it’s your first job. Dealing with critics (I was one of them), and criticism is not fun. I hope for Ace’s sake his next opportunity is one where he doesn’t have to deal with random internet posters.
I didn’t always agree with everything he wrote, but I sure as hell read everything he wrote on this site. Thank you, Ace, for your contributions to this Blog of ours.
Right, my first thought was did Ace resign, resign. Or did he "resign", resign?
Best of luck, Ace. Big thank you for your work on this blog, especially your push to make Michigan a basketball school.
We are clearly a basketball school. Thank you Coach Bielein, Coach Howard and Ace.
I'm really sorry to see this. I disagreed with Ace recently, but I appreciated his perspective and what he brought to the blog. He has an understanding of sports, a love of Michigan, and--agree or disagree with him--a strong sense of right and wrong. This place won't be the same without him. I certainly wish him the best going forward.
Can I get my 20,000 mgopoints back for saying something about him back in January?
How does Ace's resignation validate your assholery?
I say take another 20,000! Not because it is deserved but it would be hilarious.
That would be mean. 10,000 oughta do it.
Ohhhhhh that's cold.gif lol
The first rule of mgopoints...
Well the people who bullied him finally got what they wanted.
Agreed. A lot of the innuendos spread about him, particularly his GoFundMe, on this blog were disgusting to read and it's not hard to surmise that it played a role in driving him away. And it must be mentioned that both Brian and Seth forcefully rejected these lies loudly and often but there is a toxic subset of people here that had to go full Goebbels and promulgate that lie every chance they got. If you want to criticize his tweeted opinions, that's one thing, but spreading lies and profilerating 200-deep response threads about them was way out of bounds and a drag on this space.
I enjoyed his thoughtful articles and will miss seeing them here. Hope he fares better going forward.
I mean, did any of the people talking crap about him really push him away? The site has always been supportive of Ace, at least externally to me. Maybe after like 10 years he just wanted to do something different. He doesn't own the site and while he probably has a decent amount of editorial freedom it's not his site. People change and desires change. Maybe he's looking for a change and different type of work. Other people have moved on from the site, Ace just stayed longer than most.
Imagine being one of 8 billion of your species on the planet and whining about bullying.
Imagine getting banned :)
gg.
I come here primarily for the great front page content and losing Ace's contribution will be a bummer. Best of luck Ace on your future endeavors.
Brian has a pretty solid hit rate on finding talent to write for the site. I trust he'll find someone to fill the pretty large void Ace leaves
That's what people used to say about harbaugh hiring assistant coaches.
Good luck Ace. You're a fantastic writer and while I didn't always agree with your Twitter takes I hope you find a new place to write for you call home. Mostly, I wish you good physical and mental health going forward.
well said...
Ditto!
Must be some drama
EDIT: I'll let it go.
Best of luck, Ace!
Thanks for sharing. I don't twitter and wasn't aware of any of this. I'm sure there will be a front page post at some point on this, but good to know the context and source.
The rest of the story:
nor can i say how thankful i am that @mgoblog allowed me to be such a big part of the community he created. the site is a special, unique place.

i’ve had the privilege of working with and learning from a talented, dedicated, and kind group of people, and connect with so many amazing people in the michigan community and beyond. i’m so proud of what we’ve accomplished together. these bonds made this choice very difficult.
— ace (@AceAnbender) June 10, 2021
i’m ready for a new challenge. i’m still working on what that will be, though i hope and believe it’ll be of interest to many of you. thank you to everyone who’s followed along with me at mgoblog. it’s been an amazing ten years.

if you’re interested in reaching me, my DMs are open and my email is aceanbender [at] gmail [dot] com. i'll be around.

Classy exit. Ace is exceptionally brilliant. He also has a great sense of humor. From my perspective, Ace might be the smartest sports fan/ writer I have read. Good luck in your next endeavor Ace!
Makes me feel old that Ace worked at mgoblog for 10 years. I still remember reading his work on whatever blog he ran immediately prior to coming to mgoblog though the name escapes me
The Wolverine Blog
A good basketball writer, but I am glad he is moving on. Too much personal baggage for me.
Really needed to get one last dig in, sure
I think that reflects my thoughts too. I even liked his podcast but when you're posting on Twitter about banning people and posting publicly on Twitter about the recent WTKA podcast instead of talking directly with people, etc., etc. it creates this obnoxious activity on the boards. Yes the posters on here feed into but no one is creating posts and posts about Brian or Seth or Matt or anyone else and there's a reason for that. So again I liked Ace on the front page and on his podcast (though he could get snarky with Seth sometimes) but probably for the best to move on.
Agreed. Wish Ace good health and the best.
Brian probably gave him the option of resigning or be canned and Ace did the honorable thing and resigned.
That… doesn’t seem to be the case. Assuming the inner workings of a relationship to which you are not a party or close to seems strange
Seems... to be the case though.
I don't have a horse in this race, but that's just a guess (that you probably want to be true). You have no inside information on why he resigned. It's POSSIBLE you are right, but so is the possibility that he's been fielding offers from ESPN or TMZ or a new Michigan basketball site.
It's just so odd to me that people have started treating life like a soap opera. "Dude's 100% the father of his brother ... I just know it!" Good for you and your "definitive guess." But it's grounded in nothing but how you hope the world works. Unless you have some inside information. Then I'm all ears.
Good luck and thanks for all the Gifs
Awe man! That's a bummer, but I highly respect the decision. I will miss his writing on this blog, for sure. Best of luck, sir!
