Tom Brady, covidiot
The GOAT is both profiteering off covid fears (by shilling a crackpot "immunity supplement") and openly flouting basic social distancing standards -- not to mention NFLPA rules -- in a state currently seeing a big surge in a COVID hospitalizations. He's telling his fans that covid is nothing to worry about. Good lord.
Tom Brady is incredibly stupid. This is something we’ve known for a while. He’s also a fantastic qb, those two things are both true
Are you sure you're not incredibly stupid?
Making money off stupid people is something smart people do, actually
Only if you're a narcissist who doesn't care to see general improvement of humanity.
People who seek only to drain money from the ignorant should be launched into the sun.
I feel conflicted because I think people shouldn't take advantage of the disadvantaged, but there needs to be some kind of natural selection mechanism in place so we don't end up like the population in Idiocracy.
I totally get it. But not everyone gets the same educational opportunities. If you could normalize for that a little, then yeah, apply natural selection to the group that has no excuse for buying snake oil in bulk at Costco.
Speaking of snake oil, it turns out cobra venom factor (CVF) may end up being one of the most potent anti-inflammatory therapeutics ever discovered. It's not in any approved drugs yet but if it ever makes it... snake oil for the win!
Does it have electrolytes?
I'm not sure, but I did hear that it's what plants crave.
I read in India they give it to men to solve ED.
If a snake bites your jammy, it will swell to an abnormal size, while curing your ED.
That shit could cure cancer and the FDA wouldn't approve it. Not until big Pharma could chemically tweak it to obtain a patent. Then only that less effective, more side-effects, very expensive one-off would be approved.
You aren't the guy who tried to sell me into making an investment in Nyloxin are you. (Alleged cobra venom ointment).
This natural selection is going to wreak havoc on all people even if only the disadvantaged get it because they're going to end up in hospitals, prevent businesses from opening, prevent schools from opening, ruin sports for a full year, etc.
Maybe instead of taking advantage of the disadvantaged to set up a form of natural selection, we mold the system to give everyone the advantages the rest of society shares...
Jeff Bezos suggested this to our current president. Sadly the president did not take Jeff up on this offer.
Uh, that’s capitalism in a nutshell...
I don’t know why this is getting negged. That’s literally what capitalism creates the market for. It’s literally what it was designed to do. Exploit people to create profits for the few.
Instead of providing for the needs of society as a whole, it’s designed to make the most profit possible. This means creating product JUST durable enough to last a year or two and get you to come back and buy more. This means marketing to specific groups of people to target that sales group. This means jacking up prices because of “SuPpLy AnD dEmAnD.” This mean exploiting the labor of your workers for the smallest amount of wages possible to create the biggest possible profit margins.
When you design an entire society around profiteering and you commodify everything, this is the type of behavior that gets encouraged. Who can I take advantage of to make a quick buck?
"It’s literally what it was designed to do. Exploit people to create profits for the few."
Thanks Karl for your 19th century insights. Moderator's reminder: capitalism was begun by the poor in the middle ages, who became middle class, and prompted a gigantic improvement in people's lives, upended the serf/Lord dynamic, decreased the influence of the wealthy in the middle ages. And quite literally created the middle class from nothing, which prompted the greatest improvement in people's daily lives in the entirety of human history. And led to a system that has raised more ppl from poverty alone than any other idea/system in human history--and there isn't even a close second.
So yeah, not really accurate my man. Capitalism has tons of flaws as well as the virtuous facts I listed, and we continue to improve it to this day, with reforms I support. But like democracy, it's the worst system we have--"except for all the others."
The system today is fucked especially if you're poor.
Class war does exist
Attaboy.....I read the anti capitalism screed thinking here is a guy who is either a self loathing rich guy, or a guy who paid enormous sums to attend college, took ALL the wrong classes, and wound up being pissed he can't get a job other than warehousing at Amazon.
Well that IS what it was designed to do. Select few individuals own the capital. Through various means of exploitation (laborers and consumers) the name of the game is making money. That’s why companies like Wal-Mart, Amazon and McDonalds make multi-billion dollar profit margins annually while paying the minimum amount possible and giving the minimum in benefits. I really don’t see how any rational thinking person can argue against that. How can McDonalds and Wal-Mart pay such low wages that employees are on welfare while the company makes BILLIONS of dollars annually? “It’s not skilled labor.” Who the fuck cares if it’s skilled or not? If you aren’t compensated in relation to the amount of money your job creates, YOU ARE BEING EXPLOITED. It’s really not complicated. Are you being paid enough to live? Yeah, sure. But that’s not really relevant either is it? The laborers CREATE the value with their own work. That work is then sold to the consumer, whether it’s a good or a service. If what you create is sold at a $100 profit and you are compensated $20 for it, that $80 difference is exploitation. It is theft.
Capitalism inherently requires a host of social programs to keep the system afloat. Do you want to ignore the fact that 40 million American’s live in poverty? ~12% of the population? How many would die every year if not for social programs? How many are homeless on the streets every night while homes sit vacant? Did you know there are over 6 empty homes PER homeless PERSON in this country? Yet people sleep on park benches and under bridges because it isn’t profitable to put them in homes. Our society is molded around making the most money possible instead of benefitting society as a whole.
Any system designed so select individuals can hoard mass amounts of wealth while MILLIONS of people don’t get enough to survive on their own is NOT doing good for society. Exploiting the value created by workers for mass profits is NOT doing good for society. As much as they like to tell you it is, it’s not. It’s crazy that people get propagandized into believing it is, and into believing America is the “Land of the Free,” despite the US having almost 25% of the global prison population with less than 5% of the global population living here.
American government and media has done a great job denigrating any alternative ideologies and pumping up the capitalist ideology to the point where any major flaws are overlooked. And you’ve all fallen prey to it. Propaganda at its finest.
I really don’t see how you can even sit there and attempt to argue this isn’t what capitalism was designed to do. Are there worse methods? Sure. There are a helluva lot better ones too. Just because this is more ideal than feudalism, doesn’t mean it’s good for society.
You have not seen exploitation until you have seen a true communist society. Capitalism may be imperfect but communism is literally dehumanizing and designed to be just that. You have no rights, no say, no options. You are not a person, your own well being and that of your children, cannot be of any paramount concern to you. You have almost no role in the upbringing of your children, you cannot “set an example” for anybody because you have no freedom to choose between anything, down to the smallest detail of your existence. Personal property does not exist. And communist governments are historically the most corrupt, exploitive governments in history and almost unfailingly result in arbitrary serious human rights violations on a mass scale.
You don’t want what you think you want. It is unrelentingly bleak. I wish people would understand this before it is too late.
I love propaganda too
It is not propaganda. It is truth.
Marx's idea of communism has never existed anywhere except maybe in the earliest days of the Soviet Union.
And let's try to remember that just because you see it as truth doesn't make it so
Correct, because it immediately fails and results in chaos and misery where and whenever it is tried because it requires people to act contrary to human instinct. The only way to sustain even its core tenets is through totalitarian force. People here calling for socialism and communism seriously don’t know what the fuck they are talking about.
What is this Red Dawn. Go wait I your bread line
This is literally just a collection of problems and perceived problems in our society, not a coherent argument against modern capitalism AKA capitalism backed by progressive taxation and a welfare state. Plenty of capitalist countries have mitigated these issues. In fact, all the countries with the highest standards of living also are capitalist.
Capitalism isn't inherently "anti-social", it's people and their morality (or lack thereof) that produce sham products, extract maximum market prices, build monopolistic power, etc.
It's not a political system. For countries that use capitalism as their economic system, the government's role is to protect citizens from sham products, ridiculous prices, monopolistic power, etc. The U.S. government and citizens have swung the pendulum between favoring business and favoring regulations to curb the excesses that capitalism can bring about. Democracy may be messy but it's proven to be the best political system to pair with capitalism as an economic system.
So every politician in every single government in world history?
Trump University is/was a fine institution of higher learning. It gave you the biggest brain, best words and most money...all the best people are saying it.
You mean “promised” instead of “gave”.
Only one person ever made money.
No brains were involved. Cheating people is how dumb greedy people make money. Smart people don’t need to cheat.
You're a loser, pathetic, low ratings and everyone knows it.
Sure, capitalism made a lot of people filthy rich (and by the way, so fucking what) and brought a SHIT-TON of poor people into the middle class. My wife's family got out of Communist Poland and became middle class American business owners. They'll fight you if you knock capitalism.
Most people from communist countries adore capitalism because it has proven to be the better system over the past century, and communism has proven not to work mainly due to human greed, corruption, and the stifling of free thought and innovation. However, these same people enjoy many social goods such as roads, public schools, public infrastructure, etc. that we have in the US - ie social goods/socialist policies.
The cynical approach of the right to equate communism with socialist policies has helped to destroy the middle-class in this country for the past 40 years, and created this "capitalism vs. communism" debate, where no serious modern day political movement in this country is actually advocating for communism.
Through propaganda equating socialist policies with autocratic communist governments (as well as many other misinformation campaigns), the wealthy have managed to create a plutocratic system where very little wealth is concentrated at the top, yet many poor and lower middle class continue to support policies against their own best interests.
The wealthiest country in the world should not have homeless people dying of starvation on the streets, nor should we have antiquated transportation systems like Amtrak, while countries we defeated in WW2 like Germany and Japan have far superior social programs and social goods, from high speed railways to functional health-care systems. A 4-year degree at an elite university should not be reserved for the rich, or put poorer students $200K in debt.
Just because capitalism is better than communism does not mean this is the best we can do or should strive for, or that we have "arrived", and wanting to give more people access to affordable education, healthcare, better infrastructure, etc should not be equated with Stalinism, rhetoric which we often see from lobbyists and the media funded by the plutocracy.
I mean, your not wrong.
I think Brady has proven he is not in it for the money....constantly took paycuts to field a better team, hasn't been all over TV in commercials
I think he actually believes in his approach to training and eating.... and it seems to be working
And yes, he is a competitive hard working dude so I am not surprised he's throwing a football
And he is wrong for under estimating CV
But that's a typical dramatic overstated article common in these here Precipitous Days in the Fall of America
That is one of the biggest crocks of crap ever, Brady was under paid. 2x when signing, was the highest paid player in the league. Has earned the 2nd most $$ in NFL history, behind Brees. Did Brady adjust his contract to free up $, absolutely, instead of salary, became a signing bonus. One of the few players in NFL history that has had nearly every nickel guaranteed.
Why not add he could take less because his wife was making 10x more?
Exactly. And even setting aside the signing bonuses, when your endorsement income is equal to your salary, it isn't an enormous sacrifice to concede some of your salary to the players around you who make you successful.
"And he is wrong for under estimating CV"
He underestimates it because he's a (literal) world-class athlete in prime shape, with daily access to (literally) the best medical treatment and advice anyone in the entire world can get. C-19 represents absolutely ZERO threat to him and his family, other than financial. And he seems to have solved the financial thing with his 'supplement'. Quite simply, he has no idea how 'normal' people consider this disease.
You mean it's something smart feckless people do.
No, it’s something assholes do. I’m in Massachusetts and he’s the GOAT but he’s also a giant asshole.
Read as:
"Everyone that doesn't agree with me politically is stupid"
What miserable lives people with that mindset must live.
Don’t get all reasonable and open minded. The Other is terrible and you have to stay whipped in a froth of anger to stay tuned so we can sell the soap and mouthwash.
we have to stop that Other. Stay angry friends.
I didn’t say a thing about politics, that’s on you
The fact that you view a fucking pandemic as politics is sad as shit. My god.
Yeah seriously...the way some people are so eager to frame this into politics is very disturbing...
From the VERY SAME PEOPLE who in the beginning said "stop politicizing the virus!!!"
Now many can't even hear the words "wear a mask" without going full REEEEEEE
why is abiding by public health advisories political? geez...
