Matt Patricia just had his "taking the wind" moment.
It happens to every Lions coach sooner or later where they make that bone headed decision that defines their career and starts the beginning of the end of their head coaching experience. On the last play of regulation, the Lions get a break when the Raiders call timeout with the Lions at the 2 yard line. The Lions have time to think and plan what they will do. They take out their top two pass catching options in Marvin Jones and Kenny Golladay and replace them with two back-up tight-ends. They try to throw to one of the not so sure handed back-ups who doesn't make the play. Game over, career over. Nice knowing you Matt.

You sound disappointed. Are you not numb yet?
November 3rd, 2019 at 7:48 PM ^
Yeah. I really don't understand anyone who is still a Lions fan. What's the point? That franchise does not deserve one iota of support.
November 3rd, 2019 at 7:52 PM ^
(said in a room full of mostly men, all looking sheepish) hi, my name is XM, i'm a lions fan....
November 4th, 2019 at 5:43 AM ^
Hi, XM.
November 3rd, 2019 at 7:58 PM ^
I can still be a Lions fan even if I know they won't win, It makes me a better fan :)
I just never give them my money.
Plus I just root for Stafford because he delivers way more often than not.
Stay healthy all Staffords!
November 3rd, 2019 at 8:23 PM ^
I'm a Lions supporter, not a fan since "fan" is short for fanatic. The Ford's won't sell the team, so I understand the Lions winning the SB is a looooong shot. But it does provide a decent distraction before the work week and I'm now okay with that.
November 3rd, 2019 at 8:52 PM ^
Okay, the "SB is a longshot ". Is not even close, the only way the Lions get to the Super Bowl is if they are running the concession stands. I have been a long suffering Lions fan for 40 of my 55 years and they have proven they have neither the ownership or leadership to be successful.
November 3rd, 2019 at 9:37 PM ^
Neither nor’d
November 3rd, 2019 at 10:02 PM ^
Calling myself a Lions supporter is a stretch. I refer to myself as more of a Lions.....watcher. I just watch.
November 3rd, 2019 at 10:33 PM ^
I watched every game until the WR draftaggedon started. I gave up during the Millen years. So many glorious sundays since i made that decision. We all shouldve retired from the Lions when Barry did.
November 3rd, 2019 at 11:52 PM ^
I can go to Africa and watch lions. Much prettier and way more fierce lions at that.
November 3rd, 2019 at 10:32 PM ^
I was a fan, as a kid, in the Barry era. But then he decided he had better things to do, and I kind of agreed. Around that time I got to college and didn't have time to watch them lose every week. Football all day Saturday was much more enjoyable.
It's weird how people call into talk radio all angry and claiming they are swearing off the Lions. I don't think that's how it works. I never swore them off - I just lost interest. I mean, if they're on in a bar or at the gym, I'll watch a little and kind of pull for them. But if they lose, it means nothing.
I do remember meeting an ex-girlfriend's grandparents one Thanksgiving and they were watching the Lions. I made an extremely mild joke about how woeful the franchise is, and they just glared at me.
"We love our Lions," her grandma chided me.
So I guess that's how it is.
November 4th, 2019 at 12:09 AM ^
Yeah I don’t understand being a Lions fan. I don’t care at all. I root for Former Michigan players and that’s all.
November 3rd, 2019 at 8:53 PM ^
I had a brief stint a few years ago where I almost started rooting for them again; now we're all back to normal. Zero expectations, zero hope. Lions games are just a thing that happens on Sunday.
No more. No less.
November 3rd, 2019 at 10:57 PM ^
Yep. You can’t hurt me if I don’t care
November 3rd, 2019 at 8:58 PM ^
A couple of years ago a friend at work told me to look up the Loln's record the year after they make the playoffs. After I took a look, I realized I didn't need to watch Caldwell's last season. It was hard at first but I made it through an entire season. I now have no emotional connection to this team at all. It's bizarre. A loss like this used to have me pissed off until the next week. I basically laughed my ass off the entire time I watched.
November 3rd, 2019 at 8:58 PM ^
Fn doop.
November 3rd, 2019 at 9:20 PM ^
Totally numb. Loser franchise with loser ownership. No consistency whatsoever. Whoever owns the most stock in Ford is definitely calling the shots. Quinn is a puppet. I know I wouldn’t do better, but at least my time is freed up on Sundays from here on out
November 4th, 2019 at 10:56 AM ^
I agree with almost everything in your post, but there is one issue:
"No consistency whatsoever."
Unfortunately, there are incredibly consistent.
November 3rd, 2019 at 7:42 PM ^
Stafford’s dumbass decisions are rubbing off on him.
November 3rd, 2019 at 7:50 PM ^
I love how people still complain about stafford. He’s having one of the best seasons for a qb this season.
I've given up caring a few years ago about wins and losses but the bashing of stafford is just unfounded.
November 3rd, 2019 at 7:56 PM ^
If you can’t see how badly he fucks up at times, I can’t help ya.
November 3rd, 2019 at 7:58 PM ^
I know, I can't believe he gave up 31 points.
November 3rd, 2019 at 7:59 PM ^
Excuse #76
November 4th, 2019 at 11:02 AM ^
The issue with Stafford is that he is being paid $135M over 5 years ($27M/year). With the amount of salary cap he occupies, he needs to elevate the play of the entire team to justify how badly his contract starves the rest of the roster. He doesn't accomplish this, hence the losing record.
He is a good to very good QB, but he doesn't justify the salary he is being paid. To be fair, there are very few QBs that do justify the $20M+ salaries they receive.
November 3rd, 2019 at 8:00 PM ^
He threw for 400+ yds at 10 YPA with 3 TDs. He's not the problem.
November 3rd, 2019 at 8:05 PM ^
His dumbass fumble vs KC most likely cost us the game.
November 3rd, 2019 at 8:09 PM ^
Oh and his trip over his own damn feet(again) was great!
hes a klutz.
November 3rd, 2019 at 8:29 PM ^
Oh, I get it. You live in TC and are a cherry picker. Got it.
Stafford is a great quarterback. He isn't fleet of foot, for sure. However, they are way better with him than without. I cannot say that about the current management and coach.
November 3rd, 2019 at 9:04 PM ^
LOL. Yeah he’s great. That’s why we’ve won so much with him.
November 3rd, 2019 at 9:30 PM ^
Here is a fact, interpret it and explain it as you wish -
The Lions' record against teams that are .500 or better WITH Stafford as the quarterback is .010 - they / he have won 10% of those games.
Now go at it.....
November 3rd, 2019 at 10:09 PM ^
Do you mean .100? Also, that is not a record.
I doubt that we will win big time games with Stafford but at least he is a pretty darn good QB. Much better than anyone else in my lifetime.
November 3rd, 2019 at 10:25 PM ^
The offense has been ranked in the above .500 group 10 of 22, the defense only 6.
So the middle linebacker is personally responsible for most of those :)
November 4th, 2019 at 1:36 AM ^
Please, send him here to Denver!
November 3rd, 2019 at 8:24 PM ^
But not Kerryon's that was returned 99 yards for a TD? Not stopping a 4th and long cost us the game.
November 3rd, 2019 at 9:47 PM ^
At least KJ’s fumble was in a pileup, getting smacked around, reaching for a TD.
Dumb ass Stafford just fumbled the damn ball with no one touching him.
Klutz
November 3rd, 2019 at 8:33 PM ^
No it didn't.
November 3rd, 2019 at 9:07 PM ^
What’s that saying about that river?
November 3rd, 2019 at 9:30 PM ^
You never step in the same river twice!
Excellent that's Heraclitus, he's the best.
5 plays after Staff's fumble, KC fumbled it back to the Lions.
2 plays later it was a 1st and Goal Lions at the one.
2 plays later KC was kicking an extra point even though it should've been 1st and 10 for them at their 20.
I'd rather wade in the Nile than drowned in the stupid.
November 3rd, 2019 at 9:44 PM ^
I get it. STATSford is what is making the Lions so great.
If he was so damn great as Stafford slappies say, we’d be winning division titles at the very least.
He has NO maneuverability He’s a klutz He makes shitty decisions
November 3rd, 2019 at 10:10 PM ^
No one said that, we're the rational ones.
He's not the problem, but no one said he was the solution.
November 3rd, 2019 at 10:12 PM ^
But do you feel he is klutz though?
November 3rd, 2019 at 10:22 PM ^
*is
I feel he is a dumb ass klutz. ?
November 3rd, 2019 at 7:43 PM ^
They are who we thought they were.
November 3rd, 2019 at 7:46 PM ^
At some point (long ago for many, I am sure) you just have to throw your hands up and laugh.
HEY--the Lions could be the next Chicago Cubs--no championships in like a hundred million years!
November 3rd, 2019 at 7:51 PM ^
'taking the wind'? don't you really mean 'passing wind'?
November 3rd, 2019 at 11:18 PM ^
I think it's a reference to a former lions coach deferring in OT and losing on the opponents ensuing drive. When asked about it, he referenced the wind as the reason why he did it. I remember it was against the Bears nut can't remember the coach at the moment.
November 4th, 2019 at 1:04 AM ^
It was Marty Morninweig, lol, know how to say it but no idea how to spell it....
It was against Chicago but in Champaign, the year they were remodeling soldier field. I was actually there. All these bear fans were asking us what the hell he was doing. Me and my buddies had nothing.
November 4th, 2019 at 5:25 AM ^
i knew what he meant, its just that 14 yr old me was at the keyboard making a high school joke. forgive.
November 3rd, 2019 at 7:52 PM ^
Not having your playmakers in the game for that 4th down play is inexcusable and cost them the game. Don't blame Stafford he took them down the field and threw for 406 yards. Not his fault.
