Game Week Mood

Submitted by GoBlue1969 on September 26th, 2019 at 9:31 AM

My mood has changed so drastically during this week. I am still hopeful that we can see some good things against Rutgers, but I am not as excited also because- what if we don't? I am tired already (after only week 3) of screaming F-bombs at the tv during the game.

Besides the stupid knee-jerk "fire everyone", what do you need to see from the team from the tunnel runout to the final whistle?

I want to see lots of Joe Milton.  With DM out and Shea beaten up, keep Shea to a minimum. Give him some confidence boosting reps and then get him out of there so Milton and hell even McNamara can get some good reps in.  McNamara gets 4 games, get him in too.  There won't be many chances to do that this season. Do it while you can

Mood: We will probably not AppState against Rutger, but that won't mean we don't suck.

Season outlook range for after this game has a high of "Meh" and a low of "Fucknuggets"

Little to gain, a bit more to lose. We do not appear to have the defensive talent or offensive coaching for a high-upside season.

I see Michigan crushing a shitty Rutgers and then a bunch of stupid threads on here about how Michigan isn't a bad as we all know it is.

Nice. I guess that one cut a little too close to you.

Me and my ilk expect Michigan to crush Rutgers, which is why it's of zero informational value. If they manage to look like shit against Rutgers, then they're even WORSE than me and my ilk expect.

Harbaugh year five - fuck yeah, we're beating Rutgers! You homers are so ridiculous.

Iowa is the next game that matters.

I’m not sure what there is to see it is what it is.  There is no way this team is covering 27.5 against anyone and it’s going to be closer than people think.  There is no pulse on this team.  Dylan needs to get healthy too and take over we have no threat of a running game.  Not watching too so I don’t need to see anything really I already saw it.

I am excited, my brother is coming to the area and I get to see him, been a couple of years. He and my dad are going to the game. I can't make the game but I will see them the next day. Hope we look better on the field on Saturday.

I actually think we can learn a lot this week. If we see some young dudes on the defensive line looking decent and people not making bonehead errors that will make me optimistic. Seeing an offense not turn the ball over, run some tempo, block, get back to fundamentals, etc. will give me optimism even though this is rutgers.

On the flip side if we see a team than can't even put there uniform on straight or warm up without tripping over themselves the season is lost lol.

I certainly won't get too high if UM beats rutgers (duh) but we can learn a lot from this game and even more the following week.

Yeah, if we can cleanly execute the offense, it will be the first time this year. Rutger has an average defense, so that would be a big improvement from even another bottomfeeder like MTSU. I'm not sure we'll learn much about our defense since Rutger's offense is an abomination. I guess the freshman not looking bad would be nice.

I'm excited to see how they respond to adversity and being dragged nationally. Hopefully, they can put up 60+ points and allow 10 or fewer. While it would still be "just Rutgers", a good barometer is blowing out the teams you're vastly superior to.

I don't know how much it would move the needle in a positive direction, but if we happen to struggle this week, we'll know we are in for much, much worse.

So, if we blow out Rutgers, the narrative can shift toward the offense is coming together, etc. If we struggle with Rutgers, stock your liquor cabinets.

I'd really like to see the offense not lose a fumble on the opening drive. At this point I'd settle for a fumble recovered by our offense.

Even if Michigan blows Rutgers out, its going to be hard to get too excited or put much stock into the result. Rutgers is a bad, BAD team. But ideally, I'd like to see a turnover-free game, and just see the team start to execute properly. Build some confidence going into the Iowa game.

As far as my mood personally, not really sure. Last Saturday was just a reminder to never take this game too seriously. I'm not completely apathetic about the rest of the season, but I just choose not to invest too much emotion into it. For me I don't really care what they do in the next eight games. Don't get me wrong, beating ND and MSU would be great. But the ninth and final game, the only one that truly matters, the one that saves and validates your entire season if you win it, Michigan will find a way to lose.

I hope I'm wrong, but I've seen nothing that could possibly indicate a tide change is about to happen.

I'd actually say I have a pretty good life that doesn't need much change right now, and honestly a small part of that is that I don't let what happens on football Saturday dictate how I feel anymore. Good or bad.

Either way, pal, you are judged at Michigan by what you do against OSU. Your record against those guys is a BIG part of the legacy you leave behind. In some cases, it is the only legacy you leave behind, and nothing else. You can call me nuts, but after the two decades of heartbreak and humiliation Michigan has endured at OSU's hands, I would happily, HAPPILY lose to MSU and ND this year if it meant beating OSU. Harbaugh's already proven he can beat MSU, so dropping one to them stings, but I know he can beat them again because I've seen him do it. ND....eh whatever. I don't hate them. They're just annoying.

Everyone is entitled to feel differently than me, but winning that OSU game is really all that matters to me as an individual fan.

Michigan has lost almost all games vs OSU over the span of 20 years and four head coaches. Presumably thats a pretty significant chunk of your adult life, for many here its most of their conscious life.

So if all those seasons were defined solely by disappointment, and rather than just moving on with your life and focus on another hobby you remain committed enough to be a regular poster on a Michigan forum, Id say thats pretty awful.

Personally I can even remember things I enjoyed about Michigan during the Rich Rod years. Reducing things to the OSU game is myopic and a joyless way to be a fan. It explains a lot about the morose mentality of a lot of folks though.

This right here.

Who knows how many more years I have on this planet.  I love Michigan.  I live here.  I love Michigan football.  I love Michigan hockey and basketball.  I love fall in Michigan.  Football weather.

I am going to enjoy every football Saturday I have left and cheer for my team no matter what.

Note:  Still pretty young and not dying AFAIK, just saying shit happens and life is too short to be a bitter POS about college sports

I feel "meh" for Rutgers.

How the they deal with Iowa should tell us if they have rallied the troops or packed it in.

I'm watching the 2015 Ole Miss vs Bama game on ESPNU and i'm like why the hell cant our offense look like Ole Miss.  It looks like everything we want our offense to be but that our offense looks too damn complicated.  Its very clear watching 2015 Ole Miss that its a simplified read on the RPO and when in doubt just throw the ball up to Treadwell.  When its a straight drop back pass it looks to be a very simple 2 read progression.  Its actually frustrating to watch this team, with no where near the skill position talent that we have, just carve up the eventual National Champions.

In year 5 of Harbaugh, and watching the offense this year, IMO Jim never fully gave the keys to Gattis or any of our OC's.  Its like when you asked your dad to borrow the car: yea he gave you the keys but he never gave you free will to do whatever.  You had rules you had to follow.  This is what I think is happening with Gattis.  Yes, "Speed in Space" BUT these are the guys you have to use, these are the route trees I want receivers to run, etc.

We need to simplify, simplify, simplify.  Play to what our talent has instead of forcing the proverbial square peg in a round hole.   Don't force the NFL style of play in college, play the college game: Simple route trees, 2 progression reads, when in doubt throw the damn ball up to our 6'3 receivers, stop with the multiple personnel packages.

I am not sure the the receivers and Shea or even McCaffrey are on the same page, or that the QB's are really even trusting their receivers to go make a play. One thing about the debacle in Madison last Saturday, is that they finally threw the ball up to the receivers and they made plays. Hopefully this showed that we can throw it up there, THEN, that may allow the run game to get going.

Yo!  in the 2nd half we scored 3 TDs in a row.  To me the Offense is fine.  Shea can do it!  Yes more RB will help, but the Offense can score;  game would of been different if we put in the first 7 points!

It's the DEF LINE I am worried about.  Wiscy blocked them so easily.  That is something other teams will know.

Shea Patterson is not a good qb. For the people that watch him play and think he is all big ten and Heisman worthy .......you don't see the game that I see.

GoBlue1969

I am seeing a lot of John O'Korn in Shea- I am not confident he is comfortable in there. Won't stand in the pocket and make a throw, scared to actually make a mistake because of Ball Security, then runs or takes a hit WITH the ball and fumbles. Maybe it is coaching keeping him in handcuffs. But the handcuffs came off late in Madison and he let his WR make plays.

Frustrating to me, is watching even the bad teams have a QB that can hit their receivers, even give them a chance to make a play. Not hold the ball, go through the progressions and find NOBODY OPEN? Something is broken and needs to be fixed. Rutgers is a good game to figure this out.

I'm in the mood to click off this site, TV or anywhere else people are giving Urban Meyer attention.

USC has no problem with corruption and they will hire him.

Michigan should win just with talent alone.  People are probably going to say I’m nitpicking, but I want to see this team come out with fire, emotion, and purpose on both sides of the ball.  This is what has me down about this game- I don’t want to win and see players just go through the motions

I have decided to checked out for a while.  I have been caring too much about Michigan football and have realized that it affects me too much negatively when we don't win.  It's not so much about BPONE as it is just having realistic expectations.  I was hoping that the Harbaugh era would bring us into glory days... and that is not realistic right now.  I will watch the games, and I will be hopeful for victory and if not that at least a competitive game.  Regardless of the outcome, I will not allow how this team does to affect my mood as much as it has.

On offense I want to see sustained drives with a good balance between effective running and passing. Also, hit some bombs that are open.

One defense, I want to see effective play from the interior linemen. I'd also like to see Mazi and/or Hinton emerge at least as competent backups. I love Mason, but he is simply not ready yet.

Just don't lose to Rutgers. And don't tell things are going to be crazy on offense.

And I think I've given up on Jim Harbaugh being re-animated ---but if I saw it that would be the ultimate thing that could come out of this game.
