Who’s JAR?
Jamarcus Russell
Logged in just to upvote you.
Question: bigger bust...Jamarcus or Ryan Leaf? And nobody mention Art Schlichter.
Definitely Jamarcus. All he did was eat.
Eat Eat Eat no matter what
I don't know. Leaf has a pretty impressive criminal history. I think he passes Jamarcus there.
Jabri Abdur Rahim
Thank you
JAR?
Think horse face. Think Denzel Valentine, but horsier and more alien.
Hopefully he will get the ball rolling for us
Can anyone tell me who JAR is?
Meesa feel soooooo sowwy that yousa not know Jar Jar.
Jareem Abdul-Rarar
Feels like I'm drunk-reading Kareem Abdul jabbar.
Cool deal. How are things looking for Whitey Herzog and Vince Coleman?
And Lindbergh...?
Now that's the Spirit!
One of the dogs in St. Louis seems to like his new water dish.
Where’s Anders Lee going? What about Joe Pavelski? Anyone going to offer sheet Mitch Marner?
No way Russell goes back to LA
Not sure how equal the money thing will be, but Feb in Minnesota vs Feb in LA is a no brained for LA
After the Lakers organization discarded him for Ball I don’t think Russell will forgive so quickly
To be clear, Matt D is "our" basketball insider, and really has no idea where those guys will end up, does he? This shit is scary.
Did I eat an edible and forget all about it? What the hell is going on with this post?
When is Wagner going to announce he's coming to UM?
Most likely sometime next week. His season ended recently so more time to decide.
Sorry to see Kawhi leaving Toronto. He’s trading the pride of a country for a lead role on the Clippers, if true.
Yeah, I wouldn't mind seeing him stay either, but it's not his country. Hard to blame him for coming home after being sent there for a year.
I wish the NBA would publish a burn book to just give us all the info.
What's in St. Louis?!
Lord Stanley's Cup
Touche!
Nike Elite 100. Premier camp for 2021 & 2022 prospects. NBA Scouts are present this year.....I’ve gained a lot valuable intel on many fronts
Ahhh, makes sense. Keep the buzz and the good word alive about how amazing Juwan is!
Why does Kawhi want to play for the Lakers' little brother?
Jerry West runs the FO. That’s why.
Yep.
Most people don't realize it because he doesn't try to be an attention/fame/glory whore but Jerry West is the Godfather of the NBA. He was an all-time great player and is an all-time great executive.
- He built the Showtime Lakers.
- He put together the Shaq/Kobe Lakers teams.
- IIRC, he had a role in the Gasol trade to the Lakers (to get Memphis out of its cap situation).
- And, most recently, he helped shape the Golden State Warriors from doormat to dynasty.
I think Golden State Warriors owner Joe Lacob made a mistake letting West walk away over a few million dollars per year but that's just my opinion.
I don't kno where you're hearing the kawhi news but he's most likely to stay in Toronto according to "sources"
Kyrie is gonna be a pitchman for Whoppers now?
those shoes are dope
idgaf about NBA. Feed me basketball recruiting nuggets.
NBA sucks donkey dick
Hey Matt, any thoughts on JAR as a prospect. Seems like a great add to me, but you have the finely tuned eye.
He’s a five star for me. Love his perimeter shotmaking ability and positional size at the college level. Solid handle as a secondary shot creator.
Gonna push back a little on the notion of Kawhi going to LAC
TL;DR - There's been a lot of smoke regarding Kawhi and, at certain times Klay and KD, to the Clippers. And while it's true that smoke does mean fire, it's very likely that NBA/ESPN insider Adrian Wojnarowski has been partially responsible for fanning the flames. You can partially sources that to relationships he's cultivated with current Clipper exec Lawrence Frank who used to work for the Pistons. In point of fact, when the Stones traded for Allen Iverson in 2009, Woj laughably opined that LeBron was in play because of Dumar's 4D chess. This isn't to say that he's 100% blatantly shilling for certain teams, but that his reporting is colored by who he gets his sources from. And it's reasonable to suspect that Clippers are leaking info to Woj and leveraging his platform to create positive buzz for themselves as a free agent destination.
So, that TL;DR was pretty long in its own right, but the first link deep dives into a lot more detail and is worth reading. While I'm generally leery of venturing into tinfoil hat country, a lot of this does pass the smell test for me. And, yes, Woj is in a class of his own when it comes to breaking hard info, but his opinions and analysis are as suspect as anyone else's. This isn't to say that it's all "fake news" (gawd I hate that term) - there are objectively several good reasons for free agents to consider the Clippers - cap space and a deep pocketed owner amongst them. But it should remind people to take his (and everyone else's) reporting at face value - when he says 'hearing from a source that the Clippers/Raptors/Mud Hens are feeling positive about their chances with Kawhi', that's ALL it means, and it's a crapshoot to divine further meaning absent additional context.
The important thing to remember is that NBA free agent season is about as disingenuous as Dave Brandon and Urban Meyer meeting up for cocktails. When information is leaked, it's purposefully done because the agent or team wants that information to be out there.
Let me be clear, I am NOT an NBA insider by any means. I’m not important enough to move in those circles. However, those are the opinions/predictions of the overwhelming majority of NBA scouts in attendance in St Louis.
More importantly, the NBA forecast was simply meant to sandwich the relevant info in order to convey certain information meant to be subtle. Reasonable minds can deduce along those lines
Ah ok! It's all still information worth knowing, and I hope you didn't get that I was casting aspersions on you. It does make me wonder where the NBA scouts get their info from, though.
There's certainly smoke around D'lo back to LA, and that also passes the smell test. I wouldn't want to max him because I'm not convinced he can thrive off-ball next to LeBron while also being a non-tirefire on defense, however it wouldn't be the end of the world. Anthony Davis or bust was a truism, but if we don't get Kawhi (gun to my head, I think he says with Toronto), we have a path forward to contention
Btw, if you're on the Laker subreddit, there was a really interesting post with a lot of info from a guy who works with AEG, and while it's hard to say for sure if the guy is genuine, if he's even 60% right then Laker management may be worse then people think - i.e., Kurt fkn Rambis has a lot of influence, which... yeah.
Rambis has a ton of influence based on everything I hear, has been that way for quite a while.
Im not a huge fan of Russell, but can see the benefits of having a scoring option already in the fold once Lebron retires. It maintains stability with AD in his prime. Essentially lengthens the championship contention window because we will have room for another max contract when Lebron comes off the books
