Marcus Ray Takes More Shots at Michigan
Marcus Ray took yet more shots at Michigan football yesterday on "The Spartan Beat With Rico Beard" radio show (it can be found on iTunes - it begins at @ the 1:17:20 mark). Among the lowlights:
"Ohio State is about getting stops. I think Michigan is more about getting stats....when you can't win championships like Michigan can't, then you have to hang your hat on something else."
"[Michigan says] we got the number one defense in the world. Against who?"
"Northwestern should have blown Michigan out."
"Michigan's problem is that they out-athlete the bad teams and get out-coached against the good teams."
After trashing Michigan fans, he claims that he "dropped the mic in Ann Arbor" because he would rather talk to Rico Beard of The Spartan Beat.
"Michigan fans are trapped in this twilight zone of 'even when we stink, we smell good'."

who tf is that
October 5th, 2018 at 6:16 PM ^
He was a starting Strong Safety on a Michigan National Championship football team with a dominating defense
October 6th, 2018 at 8:27 AM ^
That looks like he ate Charles Woodson
October 5th, 2018 at 6:45 PM ^
He's the guy who got to play opposite of Charles Woodson and damn sure won't let anyone forget that for the rest of his natural life.
October 5th, 2018 at 6:53 PM ^
bronxblue sums it up succinctly.
October 5th, 2018 at 10:08 PM ^
Looks like he's a guy with some burnt bridges behind him he isn't ever re-crossing. Someone who's such a full-on attention whore that he'd rather rub his own nose in the mess he's made than go unnoticed.
I don't think hostility like that ever wins you many prizes, let alone hostility toward one's own. I mean, you really want to be drinking beer in bad bars with MSU and OSU fans the rest of your life? How much are they going to respect you?
October 6th, 2018 at 12:28 AM ^
He was a safety, not a CB. I think Andre Weathers was the other starting CB.
October 6th, 2018 at 7:22 AM ^
That is correct
October 6th, 2018 at 4:45 PM ^
I think he was actually pretty informative when focusing on play-related specifics, but his ego was just ridiculous. I don't think I've ever heard anybody on the radio who spent so much of his time blowing smoke up his own ass. Every week it was "I knocked this guy out at practice and I knocked that guy out at practice the next day and they were all afraid of me and I know more about defense than any of Michigan's coaches."
The only times he got anything over near-catatonic on Jamie's show was when he was talking about himself. He had zero interest in engaging on anything else.
October 5th, 2018 at 10:35 PM ^
He has insights
we fans can’t compete with his expert analysis
would be more palatable if he didn’t seem so bitter. No reason to do that your alma mater
but the actual analysis sans bluster seems spot on
October 6th, 2018 at 6:17 PM ^
"we fans can’t compete with his expert analysis"
Praise for Marcus Ray from one who says John Beilein is overrated.
October 6th, 2018 at 7:44 AM ^
He was a good player who Lloyd Carr had to keep his thumb on all the time because he always had issues. He hasn’t changed a bit.
October 5th, 2018 at 6:06 PM ^
Michigan fans suck but so do literally all college football fans and Marcus Ray has outed himself as trash that can fuck off about the Michigan football program.
October 5th, 2018 at 6:23 PM ^
He says he left the radio show because he got tired of the fans. We know that's bullshit. He never met a microphone that he didn't like. His problem is he suffers from Mike Valenti Thin Skin Disease. There is no cure.
October 6th, 2018 at 12:44 AM ^
I swear he would fall asleep while on the air. The guy only liked to talk about how he played with “Charles” like they are equals. I felt bad for Jamie Morris who actually put effort into the broadcast.
October 6th, 2018 at 12:57 PM ^
The irony of claiming others have thin skin while butt hurt Michigan fans are on full display in this thread.
October 5th, 2018 at 6:06 PM ^
Never heard of her.
October 5th, 2018 at 10:24 PM ^
never understood why people say this.
is it because it's a putdown to say a guy is a girl?
October 5th, 2018 at 10:45 PM ^
Marcus Ray is a pussy.
October 5th, 2018 at 11:50 PM ^
Yes, because that's what we're all saying here. Boys are better than girls.
October 6th, 2018 at 12:13 AM ^
What?
October 6th, 2018 at 7:49 AM ^
Gotta be a “Dude”.
October 6th, 2018 at 12:49 AM ^
white knighting won’t get you points here...actually nothing will get you points on here
October 6th, 2018 at 1:25 AM ^
More of a head scratcher is why people gotta tear him down for his weight. Being heavy is something that is pretty indiscriminate from the douchebags to the cool people. I’m sure there are more than a few posters on here that are on the heavy side that are bumming over all the weight jokes. I’d like to see this more as a dialogue about how he is a narcissist jerkoff that has to keep making inflammatory statements so people don’t forget he exists rather than pick on him for something shallow.
October 6th, 2018 at 6:52 AM ^
How about: he’s a narcissist who clearly has a hard time controlling his weight. Discussing both makes sense because from a psychological perspective, an overweight disorder typically reflects a lack of self control which seems to be doubly obvious in Marcus’s inability to operate the filter between his brain and mouth. Having both the inability to control his physical health as well as control his word choice will spell the quick end of any dwindling relevance he had w the program. That’s too bad.
October 5th, 2018 at 6:07 PM ^
He's a charlatan. A man of the times.
October 5th, 2018 at 6:08 PM ^
He had a sweet NFL Europe career.
Dude is a bum STILL riding Woodson’s coattails. Fuck that guy and Braylon. The two should go have coffee.
October 5th, 2018 at 6:12 PM ^
Haha spot on re: Woodson's coat tails. He's writing a book about Woodson.
That said....I dont think he said anything that wasn't true to a certain degree.
October 5th, 2018 at 6:55 PM ^
"Michigan's problem is that they out-athlete the bad teams ****and get out-coached against the good teams."****
You agree with this?
October 5th, 2018 at 7:29 PM ^
I definitely don't think we have outcoached any team yet this year.
October 5th, 2018 at 7:35 PM ^
Our coaches have assembled a great defense and haven’t “outcoached” anyone. Ok, sure.
Who has outcoached us? ND with their prayers that were answered on every Wimbush pass? NW with Fitzgerald who forgot how to use timeouts?
October 5th, 2018 at 7:43 PM ^
Amen. As I said at the time, Wimbush's performance was way, way outside his statistical norm and never to be repeated again in his stinking irish life.
October 5th, 2018 at 8:30 PM ^
And, of course, he played his career best against Michigan. Just like Harry Oliver. Just like Ron Pawlus (of 4 Hiesman fame). Just... Fuck Notre Dame.
October 6th, 2018 at 12:04 AM ^
Disappointing those types of players always seem to have the game of their lives against us.
October 5th, 2018 at 9:14 PM ^
Yes NW outcoached us, we have vastly superior talent, yet only won by 3. Our offensive play calling was pathetic and we out talented them at the end. Constantly running into a stacked box and burning downs is not smart coaching. WMU and Nebraska it didn't matter who was coaching, Hoke could have coached us to a win against those teams.
And sure Wimbush got lucky on some plays, yet our defense came out flat and put us in an early hole. I didn't see anything in that game that made me think we outcoached ND, and we obviously didn't have the talent to make up for that.
October 5th, 2018 at 11:45 PM ^
If we were outcoached how was NW unable to score more points after the first quarter, and unable to really stop our offense effectively. Surely better coaches could have done that.
October 5th, 2018 at 11:46 PM ^
Maybe you missed the part where after a bye week NW needed miraculous throws to get ahead, and then Michigan made ever so slight in-game adjustments that NW couldn't match.
That's actually a prime example of the Michigan staff winning by outcoaching the opponent...
October 6th, 2018 at 1:32 AM ^
This wasn't ND, they marched right down the field on us. Our defense wasn't prepared. They got their act together and played up to their potential after the first half. Is it really an example of great coaching when you adjust and get your guys to play like they should have in the first place? I mean... kudos to the coaches I guess. But that isn't going to work against a better team. See ND. Fortunately we had the better athletes so we were able to make the comeback.
But if i'm looking at who did the better coaching job, it was NW who came out with a great game plan and made it a game. In the end they couldn't hold on as they just didn't have the talent to keep up.
I'm trying to think of a team in recent history that we beat who had more talent than us. You could make the argument I guess that we outcoached OSU the last two years, but got out talented in the end. But do we really want to discuss moral victories?
October 6th, 2018 at 8:56 AM ^
Stupid comment. I believe that UM outcoached OSU the last two years but lost because we were out athleted(???)
October 6th, 2018 at 10:39 AM ^
NW didn’t outcoach us. Sorry that you think so. The second half statistics tell a story. Yardage, points, time of possession, etc all day that Michigan made more adjustments, and they were successful, than NW made. That’s smart coaching, and let’s give credit here to the players, who also adjusted and performed well.
ND looks great, but I don’t think they have much of a schedule to fear either. Sometimes teams play poorly, it’s life.
October 6th, 2018 at 7:01 PM ^
Newsflash BlueWolverine02: You do not know more about play-calling than our coaching staff. Play calls are sometimes made in certain situations against certain defensive looks for reasons neither you, nor most fans, can begin to fathom. This should not come as a great surprise.
October 5th, 2018 at 7:58 PM ^
Can I ask .....did you get your username from some sort of troll database?
Like: you enter the name of the university you're gonna troll, and it randomly chooses a name that makes it seem like you've been a fan for years and that no one will ever be able to believe was a troll account.
October 5th, 2018 at 8:00 PM ^
Yes. Not in every game against good teams, but in many games against good teams.
October 5th, 2018 at 8:14 PM ^
That was the only thing he said that I agree with.
October 5th, 2018 at 11:36 PM ^
we have coached the hell out of games, see the past 3 osu games, we never had the execution to produce the outcome, but this year we might actually pull if off (referee caveat)
October 6th, 2018 at 3:27 AM ^
last 3 OSU games? 2015 was a disaster.
October 6th, 2018 at 7:57 AM ^
I would agree, notre dame out coached, northwestern I think outcoached, beat nw cuz more talent and don brown settled defense down. Harbaugh has been getting out coached on the offensive side of ball since jedd fisch left
October 5th, 2018 at 6:33 PM ^
They do have coffee. He said he was there when Braylon tweeted that nonsense.
October 5th, 2018 at 7:04 PM ^
Seriously? Do you have a link?
