ATTENTION Beer Drinkers
Ladies and gentlemen I have recently run into a bit of a problem... I have a bit of a problem and I am turning to you guys.
First I want to thank and blame you for introducing me to the world of craft brews. I have a collection of over 60 different kinds of beers at home, the vast majority purchased on the other side of the border.
Second I want to say FUCK YOU to anyone who created/posted in a drinking thread... you asshats are the reason I am both loving life and the creators of this problem.
Now for the problem; the Canadian dollar is getting worse and worse which is causing me to spend more money over in Michigan when I'm purchasing my beer. In the fall it was costing me, on average, an extra $5/24 beers, which I was more than happy with as 6 packs are more expensive and the quality of beer is better.
This past weekend thanks to the struggling Canadian Dollar it cost an extra $12/24 beers.
I call on you MGoBloggers, where if anywhere is beer cheaper? Not sure how the prices are determined, over here it's all done through government retailers so prices are the same no matter where you buy.
Thanks for any and all help
and i guess i should also ask for suggestions on beer and on stores that have a wide variety in and around AA.

Yes, there's a Meijer near the Target on Carpenter road....
It is literally right next to it! :) How'd you miss it?!

I knew it was close. I didn't know it was any better

You can typically get a few dollars off if you go on the right week... otherwise you will be pay close to full price. But when it's on sale it's a good deal.

what are beer/liquor prices like in Ontario? I was too young to care last time I was up there and have heard straight up horror stories from friends who live in BC, like fifty for a case of Bud Light or eighty bucks for a bottle of Grey Goose or something similarly ridiculous.
To try to be a bit helpful, Michigan does have state minimum prices, not sure how that affects the more expensive craft beers and such, though.

I was in canada for super bowl and they were charging $2 for PBR tall boys at the liquor store which is the same price charged at the restaurant next to my apt in chi

well I am pretty much just a beer drinker so I can't comment on the grey goose but a two-four of bud light is $35. I regularly drink Moosehead and thats $40 a case.
ok thank you. I am more interested in the craft beers as I can't get the vast majority of those here.
February 10th, 2014 at 8:21 PM ^
How many beers in a Two-Four?
.....None for you, eh!

There are very few things that are better here in Quebec than other provinces. The price of beer is definitely one of them. A 24 of Bud light here is $25 on average. Probably cheaper at times when it goes on sale. The one thing I will give the other provinces as well as the US of A is selection. When ever we visit my wife's cousins I always hit up the beer store. I love the variety. Up until 10 years ago you couldn't find any micro breweries here that were from outside Quebec. The stupid provincial gov't considered them imported and it was too costly to get them. Finally they have seen the light.
February 10th, 2014 at 8:36 PM ^
well yeah. makes sense to me actually, beer from Canada should be classified as imports when they are being shipped to the foreign land of Quebec... why don't you guys go and seperate already? haha
I know I know, no politics but when was the last time any of you americans heard anything about Canadian politics?
all kidding aside Crazy Canuck proud to see another Canuck on the board.

I love where I live and love certain things about living in Quebec, but sometimes I wish they would separate. Just so I can watch them implode. It would suck to have to start over and find a new Dr for the kids, a vet and all the other little things. But it would be fun to watch. They have no idea all the things that they would have to do like get their own currency and have a border on every road leading out or in the province. They see all the pros for them but none of the cons. If I had my way we'd move to sunny San Diego. We went for the holidays to visit family and fell in love with the area. Damn I need a beer now.

not at the Winter Classic, I gather?
My favorite beer store is Beer Baron, but I would never recommend them on price. Meijer has a decent selection/prices.
