I feel sorry for the young lady. Nobody should have to go through something like that.

Especially since Izzo did her inside the trainers and team doctor. Sorta like a turducken, only it's a turfucken.

I beleive it would be a Turd-fuckin

My wife had been watching the game with me and had been listening quietly to me ranting about the officiating all game. When Beilein had his very uncharacteristic melt-down she said "Wow - you guys MUST getting really screwed over. I've watched a lot of Michigan basketball games and that guy never, ever seems to gets mad at anything."
I think Coach B picked the perfect time to take a Fran-like stand and it probably shocked the refs a bit. It was somebody in shock getting a slap to the face and it seemed to bring them out of their game-long bias towards State cause from that moment on the officiating took a dramatic turn our way.
Well done Beilein....well done!

We're undefeated in East Lansing when somebody has an Aneurysm.

was he going to get tossed out so dennis hopper (aka: shooter) could take over? i will say stauskus has an uncanny resemblance to the one senior in that movie, forgetting his name now (not strap, not jimmy, but....).

Great point Coach B really went off; I LOVED IT! He picked the perfect time and you are right; being how infrequent that is for him, the effect was real. This dude can coach...........eh, Nik?!!

that may have been his most brilliant play call of the season. . . it got his attention and matched Izzo those last four minutes. . .

did he really want this guy to coach the rest of the game?

However, to be fair to Shooter Flatch, when he was in the zone and not quite as blasted, he was diagramming winning plays. Certainly not an awful addition to the staff apart from the drinking perhaps.

Beilein was not going ballistic about a call. You could see him mouth the words "you bumped me, you bumped me" to one of the officials. Would also make sense why he didnt get T'd up when he was going so nuts.

I think we have a bit more talent that Coach Dale's Hickory team- but you know the old saying: "all great basketball coaches come from upstate NY"

All they're talking about is MSUs injuries, I haven't heard anyone mention that we lost McGary.
January 26th, 2014 at 9:15 AM ^
And you won't. Rather than talk about a Michigan team doing something that NO team has done in over 25 years (beat three straight top 10 teams) you're going to hear them push the narrative that a gritty, undermanned MSU squad played their ever-loving hearts out and ALMOST prevailed against all odds last night. Let's be real here - as the game is winding down Dickie V is taking time out to praise MICHIGAN STATE for God's sake?
Not us - heck we didn't lose two players to the first round of the NBA draft last year. We didn't lose a pre-season All-American for the season. We had all our guns and poor, poor Sparty had to play one despite their increadible (albiet at least in one case self-inflected) hardships.
When the media locks in on a narrative (see SEC football for example) nothing and I mean nothing will shake it but time.
January 26th, 2014 at 9:23 AM ^
at least tried to raise the point a couple times about McGary. But yeah, listening to Dickie V is painful any game. This one, especially so.

Rod Beard's take on this credits Nik Stauskas for intervening.
Stauskas’ biggest contribution might have been keeping Beilein from getting a technical foul. Beilein was upset at a referees’ call and was heated — so much so Stauskas had to help hold him back.
“It’s very important to stay composed because we don’t want to be emotionally drunk and make bad decisions. I pulled him away because he was about to get a technical,” Stauskas said. “It was important with the crowd being loud to stay composed and stick to our game plan.”

Someone help me out, I was watching but on a terrible glitchy stream and only caught it in fits and starts. He seemed to go off right after Robinson got called for goaltending; I couldn't tell if he was pissed about the call, because it was obvious, or something else. But what could have gotten him that upset? Did the ref make a cheerios reference about his wife or something?
January 26th, 2014 at 9:33 AM ^
was the right call, though, so that didn't seem to be it. During the press conference, Coach B said he was "in control, believe it or not" when someone asked about the Stauskus "assist" in pulling him away from the one ref. He kind of smiled and made that remark, as if that whole episode was calculated.
I assumed he was frustrated with the grabbing and clutching that wasn't getting called, but total guess on my part.

As coach B asked the team how high the baskets were at Breslin. "I think you'll find that these are the same dimensions as Crisler. Now lets win this for all the small schools that never got a chance to be here. "

Upvoted for avatar. I remember that thread - that pic is fantastic and hilarious.

but not at the point of the play and it didn't interfere with the ball going through. That call was understandable, though, given the time and proximity. But these guys seemed to be calling two different styles of game at both ends, giving Sparty more leeway on contact than Michigan. And that travel call on Irvin was ridiculous. The guy barely caught the ball before he was called.
Appling never gets called for traveling, even when he starts his dribble two steps after putting the ball down.
I was really shocked at Belein's reaction on the bench because it seemed an accumulation build-up not a one-incident trigger. And he deserved a T for going off. So, the fact that he didn't get one, was a testament to his past behavior and usually-calm demeanor.

It was also a testament to the good judgement of the refs, regardless of what you think of their other calls. Too often they overeact (MLB ump style) instead of backing off and trying to calm everyone down

as was stated earlier in this thread, JB was upset because the ref bumped him. you could clearly see him saying to the ref, "you hit my nose, you hit my nose". Prob why he didn't get a T.

Yup. My lip reading skills told me that he was upset about someone getting raked across the face hitting the nose.

it would make much more sense that one of the players got hit in the nose.

Beliein is now third in Michigan coaching wins behind Bill Frieder and Johnny Orr*. At his current pace, he's likely to become Michigan's winningest basketball coach sometime in the 2015-16 season.
*Steve Fisher would also be ahead of him, but for the wins wiped out as a result of the Martin scandal.
