Jeremy Gallon at East-West Shrine Game

I'm sure all the readers of this blog had no doubt in their minds that Gallon would impress. Now the world will know soon, too.

He and Denard are my two favorite links to the Richrod era. Both great Michigan men.

I wish the best for Mr. Gallon. I'm not an X's and O's expert by any means, but I think he fits New England's mold and Brady would love to have someone with his hands and ability to get open. He'd be a steal in the bottom half of the draft for any NFL team.
January 15th, 2014 at 3:21 PM ^
I'd love to see the Lions go for him. It'd be nice to add another passing threat, and I think his play would compliment Megatron greatly. Plus I'd get to continue to see him play. I'm not to worried about his 40 time. His elusivity is what makes him dangerous.

I agree that he's probably not a priority for the team, but Amendola has a history of injuries and missed time this year. I'd love to have Gallon as a plan B (or C or whatever) if you could get him in the 6th or 7th round. I'm not sure where Gallon is projected, but I can't imagine anyone taking him much higher than that.
January 15th, 2014 at 4:07 PM ^
He would be a nice fit in the slot for any team, including the Eagles. Avant may be a cap casualty this offseason so another Wolverine to replace him would be pretty cool.
January 15th, 2014 at 4:48 PM ^
I know people think Patriots because of Welker and now Amendola, but he could thrive on any NFL team. He gets open and has sure hands, that something every team wants. He can catch short balls and turn them into long gains but he can also get open deep. Hell, he can even catch a jump ball. He has a large skill set, and I'm sure some team will jump on it.
January 15th, 2014 at 5:39 PM ^
Wholeheartedly agree that he can help any NFL team. Some more traditionalist minds will want to pinhole him into a 'slot' role, but he can succeed anywhere, for any team/scheme. The man has WR skills flatout.
His top end speed will limit him from being a star at that level, but I'm confident he'll be a useful player and likely a later round steal for whoever is smart enough to not get hung up on height. It seems an increasing number of teams aren't worrying about it, which is good for him.

He has one of the best hands. I cannot remember the last time he dropped the ball on a catchable throw.

That sounds like a time recorded without a cloaking device. I'm certain that once it is engaged, he'll be significantly faster.

January 15th, 2014 at 3:13 PM ^
Oh no! What if he runs like a 15 second forty because it doesn't pick the cloaking device up?! And he stands there at the finish line like "Why the fuck is the clock still running?" Then he walks through the electronic line again to stop it.
Bummer man.

anybody know what Wes Welker's 40 time was /s
Go Blue!

The googles say 4.65.
That should be sufficient for my monthly post.

Football Game Plan's Emory Hunt says that viewers of the East-West Shrine Game should "keep an eye on Jeremy Gallon out of Michigan" whom he compares to Golden Tate.

Sweet low budge porn music in the background.

I'd say more like mid-budget porn.

BTN had an interview with Gallon from the site of the game here - (LINK). The page also lists the Big Ten players on the rosters for each team.
It would be really nice to see Gallon on Sundays beginning this fall. There are several teams that can use a receiver with Gallon's abilities. Best of luck to him!
January 15th, 2014 at 3:43 PM ^
He should have been selected on toughness alone!
January 15th, 2014 at 5:33 PM ^
Correct me if I'm worng, but I think prospects that are projected in the 1st round don't get invited to these types of games.
January 18th, 2014 at 12:43 PM ^
I do not think you are worng.

Dude's gonna have a successful NFL career.
January 15th, 2014 at 3:07 PM ^
He doesn't have the straight-line speed or height, but he more than makes up for it with his quickness, route-running, excellent jumping ability, timing, and soft hands. If Julian Edelman can be a 1,000 yard receiver in the NFL, so can Jeremy Gallon. Of course it does depend on which team he goes to and the offense they run, QB, etc.

on preliminary draft projections for him?
January 15th, 2014 at 4:03 PM ^
and getting drafted in the 7th
ESPN has him as the 65th receiver and not drafted at this point.
Both predictions are likely to change; and with a position like WR the preliminary 'expert' rankings don't really mean crap after the first 15 or 20, if that.
January 15th, 2014 at 9:05 PM ^
I'll take the Under.
His heart, his routes, his hands, his heart. Going to miss that guy. Indiana won't.
January 15th, 2014 at 3:17 PM ^
An article (LINK) yesterday said he struggled. What I took from it though is that they were doing limited route concepts, and without the threat of the route tree, Gallon is going to struggle getting separation (because his measurables aren't great in their own right, it's the combination of things that allows him to sell other routes to work the entire tree).
So nice to see that the perception is improving for him.
January 15th, 2014 at 4:42 PM ^
Interestingly, they also list Bullough as a guy who struggled, which surprised me somewhat since he apparently reported in heavier than they expected. Also, somewhat damning praise to say he's a less athletic Te'o, since I thought that was Te'o's biggest buggaboo coming out of college.

...I think Jr. Hemingway will find much success in the League, too. Those guys are two of my favorites ever to wear the winged helmet.

Please take Jeremy Gallon off your draft board.
Thank you.

Wide open's Gallon . . . They left him alone . . . Needs a block . . . Now he's in a foot race . . . Out of bounds at the fifteen and there's eight seconds to go
January 15th, 2014 at 4:17 PM ^
I agree. This, combined with the next play, is one of my favorite moments in Michigan sports history.

January 15th, 2014 at 5:21 PM ^
Not a block on the back. Te'o was already falling on his own which is why it looks like that, and Gallon may have been out of bounds already anyway. It didn't look like a penalty to me.
January 15th, 2014 at 7:41 PM ^
this thread is about Gallon and his reception there but how about Denard escaping a sack and hitting Gallon with the nice pass? Man, I miss Denard. And I'm gonna miss Gallon.

I hope Indy picks him up, he is the anti-Heywood-Bey.

5-7 and 3/8 seems about right. I met him briefly last June when I took the gf to the womens football camp. I'm a generous 5'9" and I was noticeably taller than him. I was also noticably fatter than him...a lot fatter.
January 15th, 2014 at 4:40 PM ^
He's always going to be at a physical disadvantage, but put him in space and I think Gallon will find a nice niche in the NFL. Happy to see he's showcasing some of the abilities that let him set records at UM; hopefully a team takes a chance on him.
