OT: Nick Sheridan Fired at USF
He had a good gig at WKU but had little success at USF this year...Best of luck to the man!

He will be fine. Coaches get hired and fired and rehired all the time. Minor setback in a long process. Heck, he will probably learn the most from this experience.
January 3rd, 2014 at 5:41 PM ^
This is certainly not OT.
But this is a big bummer. They rotated three QBs all year long, all of whom sucked, and the one that sucked the least was a true frosh who wasn't even ready to play at the beginning. Hardly Sheridan's fault. He'll land on his feet, there's a reason he was brought to USF even though he didn't really have the experience for the job.

Rumors are that Justin Feagin is likely to fill the vacancy.

Just keep him away from any matches

Steven Threet is next in line.

Whatever happened to The Coner?
January 3rd, 2014 at 5:52 PM ^
He is a musician, filmmaker, and a commercial director.

Wasn't there a picture that was posted here where he was in the background holding a camera or something?

You heard it here first.

I wouldn't put anything past the Lions. Haha
January 3rd, 2014 at 6:32 PM ^
There is actually talk that Tony Dungy might come back just to coach the Lions. It's a long shot but Dungy himself said that if he were to come back, it would be to coach in Detroit.

Exactly. This is like when I told my wife that if I were to have an affair, it would be with our neighbor Janet. But then I told her it doesn't matter because I'm not having an affair. Somehow she totally missed that last sentence, even though it was arguably the most important.
January 3rd, 2014 at 8:09 PM ^
My wife's name is Janet!
January 3rd, 2014 at 8:21 PM ^
Well tell her to stop giving me the sexy eyes. And you know I'm not the only one.

Did you actually read what I said?
January 4th, 2014 at 6:22 AM ^
A lot of the talking heads on tv have said that the Detroit job is actually the best job right now. I think that's what you were suggesting with your comment about Tony Dungy. I agree, the Lions really are stacked with talent. The right coach could come in and make a strong playoff run.

The game vs. MSU was butal to watch for both teams. Hopefully, the guy gets on the EMU staff or somewhere in the Midwest.

There aren't very many responses yet from USF fans over at Voodoo Five (their SBNation site), but some of the ones that do exist actually express some puzzlement at the situation. The prevailing feeling so far seems to be that the USF offense was epically bad, but their contention is that if Taggart is calling the plays (I don't know that this is true - not terribly familiar with the USF situation), changes may not be terribly effective.
As for Nick Sheridan, he'll land on his feet somewhere - in his twenties and already part of Division I staffs, now with some experience under his belt? He should be OK, I think. Good luck to him.
January 3rd, 2014 at 6:37 PM ^
I'm a little puzzled too. I followed his situation there simply because of him, but the things out of his control couldn't have gone much worse. They started the season with the most experienced, senior QB. But then he sucked, so they went with Bench, the PSU transfer who had some in-game experience, but at another school. Well, he sucked too. They then went with a frosh QB, who turned out to be OK, and rolled with him for the rest of the season.
They went to the frosh kid in game 7, and it's possibly he just wasn't ready before that. You can't really put that on the QB coach. Over 5 games, the frosh threw for over 1,000 yards, and although he didn't beat anyone, the offense looked OK. This just seems like the HC needed to shake things up and ditched the youngest guy on the staff.

ORLY?

He's only 25, He'll be fine. He'll probably have to take a step down to the FCS level for his next job (maybe MAC if he's lucky), but he's got plenty of time to rebound.
Sucks for his family though, since his dad just lost his job as defensive coordinator of the Tampa Bay Bucs.
January 3rd, 2014 at 6:33 PM ^
I hope he ends up here eventually.

Sheridan is most associated with Rodriguez, who the Michigan Men have declared is not a Michigan Man. Then again, he is the son of a former Carr assistant, whom the Michigan Men love. Also, the Michigan Men love nepotism so that bloodline means a lot.
Time will tell if the Michigan Men decree that Sheridan is a Michigan Man or not.

It's not totally a joke. There is actually swine in the athletic department who have that mentality.
January 3rd, 2014 at 10:23 PM ^
How could one, with knowledge, say that Sheridan is most closely associated to Rodriguez? Well, I guess he played under Rodriguez. He also played under Lloyd. He is, in fact, most closely known as the son of Bill Sheridan. He's a smart kid, and likely will be a very good coach. The fact that he played under Rodriguez will be a learning lesson for him to know what NOT to do.
January 3rd, 2014 at 11:35 PM ^
Clearly, you have an eye for context.
January 3rd, 2014 at 11:19 PM ^
Yeah, what budding offensive coordinator in his right mind would want to take lessons from Rich Rodriguez?
January 3rd, 2014 at 6:30 PM ^
I hear RichRod is looking for help.
January 3rd, 2014 at 7:54 PM ^
I know that was meant as a snark, but Arizona wouldn't be a bad place for Nick at all.
January 3rd, 2014 at 9:02 PM ^
Arizona would be a step up from USF, so I don't see Rich Rod hiring him for the same position. But maybe he would bring him on in a lesser role with an eye towards promoting him later on. At the very least, Rodriguez would probably be willing to make some calls on Nick's behalf. He seemed well-liked by Rodriguez and his staff.
January 3rd, 2014 at 8:59 PM ^
I know you are trying to make a joke, but arizona is better in all aspects than michigan, including defense. So maybe we could use him here. How about that for a joke?

Either way, totally understandable for them to can some guys on offense. They were awful.
Luckily, Nick is young enough that he'll land somewhere quickly enough. This might set him back a few years, but if he's a decent enough coach he'll get right back in there. Heck, he was a QB coach at a BCS school as a 26(?) year old? He's gonna be alright
January 3rd, 2014 at 6:57 PM ^
In all seriousness, best of luck to Nick.
January 3rd, 2014 at 7:18 PM ^
Fire Al Borges, hire Nick Sheridan. Happy now?
Good luck to Nick.
January 3rd, 2014 at 7:11 PM ^
It could be that the HC fired Nick to cover his own a-- after a 2-10 season.
January 3rd, 2014 at 10:03 PM ^
He'll be fine, but that's always tough. I suspect that he'll find his way back up in A2 at some point.
January 3rd, 2014 at 10:26 PM ^
Almost certain, unless he progresses too fast. Last I checked, Michigan does not currently have a qb coach .....
January 4th, 2014 at 1:38 AM ^
Borges is the QB coach.
January 3rd, 2014 at 11:52 PM ^
How many people are QB coaches at BCS schools at 25? (25!) Even after getting fired he still seems ten years ahead on the career track. Most people are GAing at his age or position coaching HS JV.
