Bowl Game swag bags released
It's time to play everyone's favorite game: what you get for being a student-athlete.
A free pizza when your pockets are empty is an NCAA violation, but you can receive gifts from bowl reps.
It's all about the student-athlete!

Players are allowed all-you-can-eat wings on the field during timeouts, for the life of the bowl game only. One waterboy has the water bottle, one has the waterbottle filled with bbq sauce.

My friend who plays for Sparty got one of those chairs from the BWW bowl last year. Greatest chair I've ever sat in.

Will Webb, executive director of Charlotte Collegiate Football, the nonprofit committee that operates the Belk Bowl and the ACC Dr Pepper Championship football game in Charlotte, relates an experience during last year’s player shopping trip. “I saw one young man carrying a high-end Cuisinart coffee maker and pink slippers to the checkout counter,” Webb said. “I asked him jokingly if those were for him. He put his hand on my shoulder and said, ‘You have no idea how much this means to me. This is the first time in my life I’ve ever been able to buy my mom a Christmas present.’”

I bet Maryland and Marshall players are happy.

They better be helping local impoverished citizens to eat for a years.

Cotton Bowl tickets for Oklahoma State students are also $150. That seems ridiculously high for student tickets.

Some of these rubes seem to believe this is the first time players have been given a swag bag.

■ Outback Bowl
Wed., Jan. 1, 1 p.m. (ESPN); Tampa
$150 Best Buy gift card; Fossil watch; cap; Jostens ring, Outback Steakhouse gift card
If they are able to give up to $550, I wonder how much is on the Outback gift card.

Along a similar vein of thought, how much is the Fossil watch and how much is left over for this shopping trip to Belk Department Stores? I was sort of curious about that particular one, oddly enough. They are apparently aiming to provide the full Belk experience down in Charlotte.

The article also states that the respective schools and conferences can also provide gift suites up to $400 each. Grand total could be up to $1350 in swag/gear for the athletes.
"The NCAA allows each bowl to award up to $550 worth of gifts to 125 participants per school. Schools can, and usually do, buy additional packages that they can distribute to participants beyond that 125 limit. In addition, participants can receive awards worth up to $400 from the school and up to $400 from the conference for postseason play, covering both conference title games and any bowl game."

rather than a free pizza, I'd rather have a brown paper bag from Ed Martin stuffed with about $15,000 in unmarked bills. A few of those, would be nice.

The best thing about bowl game swag was the winter where a bunch of OSU players had their house broken into and claimed they had each lost Xboxes and electronics and such. Cue general outrage, "OMG they're getting paid, how can college kids have this much stuff," etc.
Then everyone realized these guys had all gone to multiple bowl games and received matching boatloads of expensive shit, which was exactly what they had claimed was stolen.
Whoops.

was over $3,000 in cash that was claimed to be missing.

"Looking ahead, new bowl games scheduled to begin next year in Miami; the Bahamas; Boca Raton, Fla.; and Montgomery, Ala., would bring the total number of bowls to 39"

Apparently, they're trying to get a bowl game in Dubai. I wish I was making that up.

I imagine they'll have 3-4 fans in the crowd.
