I was listening to 89x this morning, and they are reporting that Lions WR Nate Burleson broke his arm in two places in a one car accident.
Edit: It was confirmed by the Lions

Can anything else happen to the Lions in my lifetime? Who's writing this shit?
September 24th, 2013 at 9:19 AM ^
Yes and Bobby Layne.

That's unfortunate, but at least it's only a broken arm. Reggie Brown suffered a neck injury, almost dying on the field; surgery prevented paralysis, but his football career was over. Mike Utley suffered a broken neck and paralysis. Eric Andolsek was working in his front yard when a truck ran off the road and killed him.

Talk about bring back a memory - I was AT that game with my late father. He was a Dr and Hughes went down right in front of us (we were sitting in the lower deck of Tiger Stadium on about the 35) and he never moved. I remember Mel Farr stepped over Hughes to get back to the huddle while Dick Butkis was going nuts motioning to the Lions bench to get somebody out on the field. And all the while my dad kept saying was "he's not moving at all - something's really wrong with him".
It wasnt until we got home that I found out he had died.

I'm 54 and I've seen exactly ONE playoff win during those years. The only thing about this news that doesnt surprise me is that Johnson, Suh & Stafford weren't in the car that hit his and also injured.

At some point this season if the Lions are doing too well, all three of those guys plus Reggie Bush will be in separate cars and all hit each other at the same four-way intersection. It'll be like that one commercial where the lady gets hit by four student drivers at once, except it'll be at like Telegraph and 8 Mile.

Last week was the first time the Browns, Bengals, and Lions have won in the same week since 1994.
September 24th, 2013 at 9:51 AM ^
That's hilarious.
September 24th, 2013 at 11:13 AM ^
Dave Krieg (Lions), Jeff Blake (Bengals), and Mark Rypien (Browns).
Wow.
Both Cleveland and Detroit made the playoffs in 1994. And Cleveland won a playoff game. It's the last time ANY of the three franchises has won a playoff game.

Jeez.

If only Tampa Bay would have won....

I grew up my whole childhood in Michigan, never seeing a Lions playoff victory. A few years ago I moved to Indiana, just in time for Peyton to go down and the Colts to enter the Andrew Luck sweepstakes. Now I live near Cleveland, who, despite winning Sunday, traded away one of their two good players (Joe Thomas being the remaining good player).
At this point, as far as pro teams, I think it's me. If people are willing to pay me, I'll gladly move to Dallas to help the cause.

Where do you live Space? I live in Medina (just moved from Hudson) and I'm a Browns season ticket holder and went to all the Lions games through the 70's so your experience with bad pro football got nothing on me.

I'm still only half-way in the post-college "started from the bottom now we here" progression (this relates to the young kids that think Drake is actually good at making music). So yeah, a suburb of Cleveland.

Let me know if you ever going to a Browns game. Me and the avatar usually tailgate (so to speak) up 6th st pre-game and if you're around I'd love to meet you and buy you a beer.

But then had a friend have the audacity to have a Fall wedding, which will not only interfere with this Fall Saturday for them, but future Fall Saturday's for years to come.
Let this be a lesson to people, good things never happen from getting married in the Fall, any other season is perfectly acceptable though.
But if I ever make it to a Browns game I'll make sure to let you know. I'm hoping to eventually, just need to find the time/resources.

Dallas schmallas. I hate the Cowboys as much as anyone but I'd actually prefer a different location for you. Hint: cheese.

Dallas is actually livable to some degree, Green Bay, I'm not so sure about.

Should not affect his inability to catch the football

Expected to be out 5-7 years.

He is expected to be back before Calvin retires.

I was really liking this 2-1 start overall....
Hopefully, Burleson's recovery is full and expeditious. Per ESPN - here - it happened around 2:25 AM this morning in Farmington Hills. No ticket was issued.

Obvious is obvious. Getting pizza!

I don't beleive alcohol wasn't invloved. Who's out at 2:25 am without drinking alcohol?

I saw the thread title, and I thought that maybe Nate Burleson was a basketball recruit. Shows you how much attention I pay to the NFL, including the Detroit franchise.
I'm guessing I might have known who he was, if he had played for Illinois, or Iowa or even Georgia or Georgia Tech. So I looked him up and found out he was born in Calgary, Alberta and went to college at Nevada.
Sorry for the "lol." Hope his arm gets better and that his career as a professional football player is a success.

Section 1 being ignorant of something? No, that can't be!

same old lions, the chicago cubs of the NFL

He was distracted by a pizza falling off his front seat. Typical Lions.
September 24th, 2013 at 11:29 AM ^
Man I love this franchise.
September 24th, 2013 at 11:59 AM ^
See, Dave Brandon has people loving pizza so much that they break their arm trying to save them. Soon, it will be the same for Michigan. When Michigan falls off your front seat, even Ohio will break arms trying to save them.

Guy played every game the first two years of his contract. EVERY GAME. So yeah, you're just wrong.

September 24th, 2013 at 12:59 PM ^
Way to change your argument when you're proven wrong.
Guy is a class act, great contributor back into the community. He was driving home after watching MNF with friends and taking back some leftover pizza - something i'm sure we've all done before. The police found no reason to suspect he was under any influence, so why are you out for him? I can predict your next argument - that the cops are under pro athletes thumbs so he got off easy.....tell that to Miguel Cabrera or any of the other star athletes who have not gotten special treatment in metro Detroit.
Your vendetta is tiresome.

Since their bodies go through so much abuse I hope they do smoke weed instead of taking other more harmful types of pain relieving drugs. There are medical uses for marijuana in case you haven't heard.

Police report ruled out impaired driving so you're a fucking moron. He was distracted driver. Not better but let's try to hold off on accusing people of what you just did.
