OT: Trent Richardson traded to Colts
per ESPN's Adam Schefter. For a 1st rounder.

Mods delete if needed. I understand it's not OT season but this is pretty big news.

So, correct me if I am wrong here, but essentially Cleveland is giving up on the season, setting FirstEnergy Stadium ablaze and shooting the cat. I assume that means they are willing to wade through this season and try again next year.

So, any Browns fans know who's going to get the tailback carries now? Depth chart has Bobby Rainey, a 2nd year guy out of Western Kentucky, as the second stringer, and no 3rd stringer is listed.
If you have the KNOWLEDGE, help me and my fantasy team out with some insider info!

not a browns fan but i think Ogbanaya (sp) is next up for them.

Ogbonayya (sp) should get the start in the short term I believe, and he has had a couple games as the starter if I remember correctly. Rainey is the one with the upside. There's also rumors that they will sign McGahee. For the record, in the league where I desperately need backup rbs, I grabbed Rainey only.
September 18th, 2013 at 6:43 PM ^
Berry just tweeted he picked up Rainey and McGahee in all the leagues he could.
September 18th, 2013 at 7:08 PM ^
I went and picked up Richardson in every league I could. Unfortunately that was 0 leagues.

Clowney. Get Clowney and an extra first round pick.
September 18th, 2013 at 7:17 PM ^
Except instead of Clowney they'll get somebody who doesn't suck at football, like Taylor Lewan.
September 18th, 2013 at 7:45 PM ^
Clowney it is.
September 18th, 2013 at 8:08 PM ^
September 18th, 2013 at 8:14 PM ^
Possibly. Browns would probably beat the Jags 4-3.
September 19th, 2013 at 12:27 AM ^
we'll see they play eachother this year
September 18th, 2013 at 8:13 PM ^
LOL, yeah, because clearly the Browns need an overrated defensive end. Mark my words, the Browns will draft a quarterback. Look out for Teddy Bridgewater.
September 18th, 2013 at 8:15 PM ^
And then they'll be dumb. Clowney has not lived up to the insane narrative ESPN built up about him, no. But Bruce Smith in his prime against high schoolers couldn't live up to that narrative, so whatever. ESPN being dumb doesn't mean Clowney isn't the best pro talent in this draft.
September 18th, 2013 at 9:56 PM ^
He's overrated if you go by all the hype ESPN has given him, but he's still the best DE in college football.
September 18th, 2013 at 11:13 PM ^
The Browns' front seven is excellent. Their quarterback is Brian Hoyer.
Which do you think is a position of need?
I think if W.D's post had left out the unnecessary "overrated" tag on Clowney it would have been spot on. He may be the best pro talent in the draft but he isn't the most valuable prospect to this particular roster. This franchise needs a QB in the worst way.
September 18th, 2013 at 11:30 PM ^
And that's how you take a mediocre QB (Bradford) over an all-pro (if headcase) DT (Suh). Or you end up talking yourself into Jamarcus Russell over Megatron. I think Bridgewater over Clowney would be more like the Bradford/Suh comparison than Jamarcus, but still.
September 19th, 2013 at 9:10 AM ^
In all honesty, I can see 3 QBs taken before Clowney (Bridgewater, Mariota and Hundley). Because QB is the most important position in the league and having a franchise QB will instantly make a team a playoff contender within 2 years.
September 18th, 2013 at 7:10 PM ^
New regime, slowly or not so slowly overhauls the roster. No loyalty to the current players that are not "their guys", so pretty much anyone is game.
September 18th, 2013 at 7:34 PM ^
they don't like T-Rich and Weeden. They want to have 2 1st round picks so they can trade up to get Teddy Bridgewater at #1 overall. They need a franchise QB in the worst way.
It's not a bad trade by both team. Browns will use ammo to trade up to get their QB at #1 overall (or already have it to draft Bridgewater and use the rest to build offensive weapons around him). They got an underrated defense with excellent front 7.
Colts got their RB to play their power running game that the new OC preferred. Helps take pressure of Luck.
Honestly, it's a win-win by both team IMO.

Haven't researched the details, but finances might have been a motivator as well. I believe Richardson was drafted in the last year before they implemented the rookie pay scale, so he is probably being paid a lot more than the equivalent draft pick in 2014 would get paid.
September 18th, 2013 at 8:17 PM ^
just by trading away T-Rich. However, they had so much dead cap space clearing up by next season that it's not an issue. Money isn't the motivator though.
September 18th, 2013 at 8:03 PM ^
Nope, he was drafted last year, the last year without a rookie cap was the Sam Bradford draft year (2010).
September 18th, 2013 at 6:38 PM ^
Woot?
September 18th, 2013 at 6:41 PM ^
I have no opinion on this.
September 18th, 2013 at 7:19 PM ^
well played.

Well, yeah. So?
September 19th, 2013 at 11:31 AM ^
trying to say That the Lions are anywhere near as shitty as the Browns are right now? The Lions have talent and are fun to watch..the Brown's are garbage

Maybe the Lions will trade Leshoure to the Browns for a pick or two.
Edit: Nvm, they're working out Willis McGahee

You hear all kinds of rumors about his knees and honestly i'm not so sure Cleveland will be trading up the number 1 pick. The only way this is a success is if the can pick up Bridgwater and maybe Lee out of USC. I'm sure Weeden will be gone by the start of next season too
September 18th, 2013 at 6:41 PM ^
But damn, Jim Irsay is REALLY EXCITED.

Indy native and I just did a livingroom fistpump after hearing the news. What is Cleveland thinking?!
September 18th, 2013 at 6:49 PM ^
Cleveland is probably thinking that running backs that average 3.5 yards per carry are a dime a dozen, and that they can sell high before his value is gone, like fellow Alabama back Mark Ingram.
I have no skin in this game, but its a great move for Cleveland in my opinion.
