Michigan vs. Oklahoma softball open thread
It's the CWS so we're getting this one started early. Arizona State vs. Texas 7 PM Michigan vs. Oklahoma 9:30 PM
Mod edit: Taking a page from Seth's book and bumping the timestamp. If I'm not mistaken this is the last Michigan team playing, and their live event should be at the top over some other stuff. JGB.
get your rally caps on. Will make a comeback. I believe in the blue.
Can't give up extra outs. Doesn't help when Sara's getting squeezed and the umps give them extra outs too.
OUCH. Even for a girl, that's gotta hurt
So if we don't come back what's the deal? How many games in a row would we have to win to make it to the final and would we have to play Oklahoma again(please no)?
IF Michigan happens to lose this game, their path to the finals will be--
#5 Arizona State (Saturday, 2:30)
loser of #7 Tennessee/#11 Washington (Saturday, 9:30)
winner of #1 Oklahoma/#4 Texas (Sunday, 3:30)
winner of #1 Oklahoma/#4 Texas (Sunday, 9:30)
Good Lord. That almost hit the weenie wagon in CF.
M isn't even playing poorly; this Oklahoma team is something else. It still isn't over though, definitely possible to get back into this.
was finally a Michigan type of defensive inning. Rally cap time for a big 7th!
Dang, 7-1 no hitter, 12 Ks for them. What's next for U-M?
on Saturday, I believe.
As context for anyone who doesn't follow softball closely, M was third in the nation in scoring as of 10:00 tonight, and Ricketts just threw like a 92 pitch no-hitter. She's unbelievable, her backup is probably 90% as good, and their hitting has been on fire lately.
Didn't nebraska beat them randomly?
1-0 with their "backup" throwing a two-hitter on 3/2. Ricketts has lost one game all year, somehow losing to Louisville 5-1. After seeing Louisville live at their regional, that game makes absolutely no sense to me and I have to assume Ricketts didn't get to bed the night before or tweaked a muscle or something. They followed that loss with a 9-1 win in five innings half an hour later.
On a side note, she's a freshman and not there yet, but the Nebraska pitcher who threw the win against Oklahoma is going to be really freaking good. Emily Lockman is her name, and Michigan is going to need to keep up their hitting if they want to keep the conference streak going the next three years.
I missed the game but saw a bit of a preview on my flight last night (directv on united). Anyway, an analyst was naming her top 5 pitchers and hitters in the WCWS. Michigan was represented by the freshman slugger (Sierra Romero?) as the #3 hitter. She ranked Oklahoma players the top 2 pitchers AND hitters. Basically, it seems this Oklahoma team is pretty damn loaded.
Does the entire team really need to clear the dugout each time a player crosses the plate? You'd think it was a walkoff.
