One Frame At A Time: Northwestern
Michigan did many, many great things against Northwestern, and they will be given their proper due in a moment. But first, let's marvel at the worst inbounds attempt in the history of basketball:
What the heck happened here? Let's go to the diagram, which may or may not be taken straight from Bill Carmody's clipboard:
You know, if there weren't boundaries around the court or rules against using random rich dudes as a sixth player, this just might have worked. Worth a shot, anyway.
[For the rest of the Northwestern gifs, including Nik Stauskas declaring sexy himself back and Trey Burke And1-ing Alex Marcotullio, hit THE JUMP.]
As always, click the still image to open the animated gif in a lightbox.
It's really not fair when two 40% three-point shooters pass up decent looks so a 50% three-point shooter can get a wide open one:
SHOOT THE J. SHOOT IT!
Yeah, he's back:
Don't worry, though—he's still Not Just A Shooter™:
Fast break clinic, this:
Go home, Alex Marcotullio. You're drunk:
Fetch!
[Gives McGary biscuit.]
John Beilein, ninja:
John Beilein, displeased ninja:
Bill Carmody, five minutes into the game, already giving zero f***s:
Guess that explains the inbounds play.

Illinois had an inbound play that was worse, last night against MSU. I can't find it anywhere, but the passee never got close to touching the ball. It was awful and in a much closer game.

I saw the same play. As I recall, the guy inbounding was behind the baseline and threw it parallel to the baseline out of bounds. I believe it may have never crossed the plane into the court's "airspace." It was incredible.

...resigned acceptance of his team's fate so early in the game was telling.
Yeah, I said it. Telling.

That fastbreak is sooo damn beautiful. I think I watched it on loop about 15 times. Hardaway's spin move to clear the defender was slick to start it off.

It was perfect. Steal, spin, one-handed pass, alley-oop, dunk. Couldn't have dreamed it any better.

...my God, that step back.
Go home, you're drunk - indeed.
The McGary "Fetch" is beautiful as well. If you're NW, you just say "thanks, but no thanks" and walk off the court after that.

I like these even better than Sportscenter highights, and look forward to them after the game.
I was watching the game while playing puzzles with my 21 month old son. When Stauskas to everyone he was BAAAAaaaacccckkk I actually shouted a little to loudly, "That's a GIF"
I tried to explain to him what a gif was, but he didn't understand.

Illinois had an inbounds almoast exactly like that the other day against sparty. Except it was even worse, like 10 feet wide of the guy.
State also threw the ball right to an illinois player on the last inbounds under the basket and the guy just dropped it.
