OT: Reuben Foster to take an official to SDSU?
Per Scout, Reuben Foster is scheduled to take an official to SDSU. HUH? I realize this kid is probably just enjoying the process, but could his recruitment get any more random?

probably hes just doing a background check on hoke before commiting to UM! :)

Why not throw in an official to Hawaii too? Not a bad way to score a free trip to the islands.

Be the first place I set up an official too, but you have to think that they screen recruits.

Well, the coaches talk to the players before they invite them on official visits. I wouldn't call them "interviews" but they gauge a player's interest level. It's not like any random recruit can call up SDSU and say, "Hi. I know I've never talked to anyone at your school, but I'm calling to place my reservation for an official visit on Feb. 1."
Additionally, I believe I read that players have to show that they're on track or capable of graduating with their class before they can take an official visit. I believe they have to submit unofficial or official transcripts from their high school, or at least a statement from the school saying that they are on pace to graduate with the Class of 2013.

SDSU would be crazy to turn down a visit from an elite player, if only for the buzz it's creating. When else would San Diego State football be mentioned on this blog in January otherwise?

Touche.

Also, remember that recruiting visits are just for the weekend. If you take a visit to Hawaii, you'd be spending a lot of your trip just in the airplane.

Hawaii, at least on the academic side, has a pretty good nose for sniffing out people who are just angling for the free trip. My wife and I both shot for on campus visits, with no intention of ever taking job there, but they didn't bite.

SDSU isn't exactly the beachiest place in the world. It's inland San Diego. Relative to the midwest, it's like a vacation spot, but if he's interest in being close to some cool beaches, he'd be better off visiting Miami, UCLA, and USC (once breaching the dangers of the surrounding neighborhood).

Agree with the poster above - SDSU is at least as close to the beach as UCLA (probably closer, and certainly closer to fun beaches) and it's much closer than USC.
Now, if he could swing an official to UC San Diego, that would be the beachiest of them all, with University of San Diego being not too far behind.

La Jolla is great! Beaches of all types for miles right down to the San Diego city line, totally coastal and my favorite, clothing optional Blacks beach. Football sucks though, except for the football-sized chests in bikinis! /s

Northwestern is the only school that I can think of off the top of my head thats on a beach.
January 28th, 2013 at 4:14 PM ^
You should check out Pepperdine.
January 28th, 2013 at 5:07 PM ^
You know whats funny, Peperdine came to mind right as I was hitting enter, but I figured nobody would call me on it. I was implying FBS schools, because no 5 star recruit will end up at Peperdine. That and the school itself is up on the cliffs of Malibu, I'm not sure if it actually touches the ocean, and if there is even a beach there.

that's great news for Rocky Long.
But yeah, it's probably just that he wants to see San Diego.

SDSU campus? If so, you wouldn't have needed to ask this question.

is a great town. I was stationed in Cali back in the day and spent a good amount of time in Deigo. Love the women down there.

it Sand Dog. But that was probably just a Navy thing. Everyone also shortened SanFrancisco to just Frisco and that seemed to really cheese off the locals.

I'm not quite sure this is serious...
You're really going to complain about San Diego's weather... on a blog devoted to a school in Michigan?

I'm from Michigan, currently living in Baltimore and moving to San Diego in a few weeks. The level of complaining over a 55 degree day out there is absurd. I was out there a couple of weeks ago and people were whining incessantly about "the cold week" they were having.

I am not typically a fan of Jimmy Kimmel . . . but that was absolutely hilarious, IMO. Especially funny because it is so true. One could substitute Florida for California and it would also be perfect.
January 28th, 2013 at 2:09 PM ^
They have way better looking newscasters too.

And Jimmy Kimmel is way hotter than David Letterman.

I know - I had to dig out my fleece to wear to and from the gym in the morning. Thank God for seats warmers, right? That sub-50 degree leather is like ice on my bare legs!

Someone who "gets it."
Except my kids complain they don't have seat warmers...like its practically child abuse.
