Maryland has to be the most undisciplined team in the nation. This is pathetic. If this continues UNC is going to win by 40.

I agree and if anything I'll root for these teams. But what's so great at this point...We don't need anything. We're so damn good that we just need to win a "few" more games and a 3-seed at the least will easily happen.

3 seed? At this point that'd be a pretty big disappointment. We have a legitimate shot at a #1 seed. If you can survive the regular season with five losses or fewer in a major conference (which I think we can), it's a real possibility.

Yes for sure, but not that it matters much.

Off topic but ESPN really needs to start actually researching what they write. They stated Alabama only had 2 guys enter the draft early when in fac they had 4.

I'm on record as saying Maryland is decent and close to turning the corner to becoming relevant again. I'm wrong. Maryland is terrible. This game can't even be fun to watch if you're a Tarheel fan.

Mississippi is looking like the real deal, having knocked off Mizzou rather easily in their last game. My guess is they shouldn't have too much trouble with the Hogs but it would be nice if Arkansas could pull off the upset.

Oh, and you forgot (12) Creighton @ Wichita State.

I think the OP was just noting matchups between two ranked teams (or former M opponents), but certainly Wichita State (ranked just outside the top-25) will give Creighton everything they can handle at the Shockers' home court.
Additionally, Arizona (7) at Arizona State should be a good game.

Anyone else find themselves rooting hard for Maryland when they see them play?

The ESPN preview for the games coming up listed this afternoon's game as 11 Ohio / 18 Michigan State!

Is there a difference for RPI in the outcome of the Purdue/WVU game? Is it better for an ooc opponent to have an extra win or an in conference opponent who you play twice?

Yea i was checking out that game. I admit I don't know much about PAC 12 basketball but I wanted to see what all the Arizona hype is about.

Purdue up 14 at half vs West Virginia. Maybe they are better than what I thought.

glad my Panthers could pull out a win after a bit of a scare against UConn, and caught most of the first half of Purdue v. WVU, but I just flipped over to the NHL season opener (Chicago at LA). I know a lot of people said they wouldn't, but I'll gladly watch good hockey given the opportunity.
As an aside, and something NBA fans might be able to answer for me, how long has that jumbotron been up in the Staples Center? That thing is enormous and has a pretty unique design.

Combination of the two? Purdue is better than expected and W VA is pretty bad.

PSU goes 1-6 on the FT line in the last 24 seconds to lose by 4
January 19th, 2013 at 3:24 PM ^
Texas just opened up a 42-31 lead over Kansas with 15:21 left in the second. Would be big if Kansas were to lose, as that would guarantee us moving up to at least 3rd in the new rankings. If Louisville were to lose, we would move up to 2, and possibly one if voters feel our win over Minnesota warrants us jumping Duke.
Also, while Purdue has looked good, lets keep in mind that WVU is a pretty crappy team.
January 19th, 2013 at 3:41 PM ^
Duke also beat Minnesota (albeit on a neutral court). And their other wins (Kentucky, VCU, Louisville, Ohio St, Temple) are considerably better than ours. I would be shocked if we jumped them.

And syracuse will jump us with their win over louisville

ACC has Duke, NC St. and then a whole bunch of nothing really. Miami is probably a tournament team, Maryland has played nobody, and FSU is about to rack up a 4th awful loss. The ACC is suppose to be a basketball conference.

Whoa Louisville. Michigan back to top 3?
January 19th, 2013 at 6:19 PM ^
We'll probably be fourth, behind Duke, Kansas and Syracuse (who will leapfrog us - justifiably so - for beating the #1 team on the road).

I think Michigan will be third at the lowest. We will jump Indiana, Louisville, and possibly Kansas since they struggled today.
January 19th, 2013 at 6:23 PM ^
Syracuse could jump us though.
January 19th, 2013 at 6:24 PM ^
1. Duke
2/3- Michigan or Syracuse
4. Kansas

It's tough, because Cuse has a much worse loss (Temple) than us, but a better win (#1 Louisville, obviously). Cuse also has a weak schedule in my opinion. They are one-defeated, like us, yes, but against SDSU, Louisville, and who else? Air?
Villanova, Rutgers, Arkansas, USF are their toughest games until now, save the two mentioned above. They haven't been proven wrong yet exactly, and beating #1 is kind of an indication of being good, but I don't think they should have been #6 in the first place and therefore shouldn't be #2/#3.
But they were 6, so yeah they'll probably jump us. Might even be Duke-Cuse-UM. Disagree as we might.
We'll get some first place votes I'd think. More than the 1.
January 19th, 2013 at 6:36 PM ^
I don't think we'll jump Kansas. They were ahead of us , and while they did struggle, the voters don't watch most of the games.
