nice finish to the half

Up 7 at the half. I'll take it.

Exactly. If he wants to show off his NBA chops, that means more than points. NBA GMs know Burke can shoot and score. But if you're going to draft a 6'0" PG, you need to know he is a great distributor, not just good. Burke is looking like that this year.

I WAS WRONG
I just wrote above about Trey playing poorly - I didn't realize he had that many assists. WTH? That is incredilbe. That is what he hasn't been able to do well in earlier games. But if he can put up assists like this, he doesn't need to score in order for him to be a GREAT player. 9 assists in a college half is really incredible.
I feel that with this team, Burke should be dishing out about 10 assists per game - which is an incredibly high number for NBA, and even more rare in NCAA. But with these scorers - he should do it - that's what this team needs.

He's not playing poorly, but he took a couple of long range threes that made it look like he was pressing a little bit. Kid is awesome, dishing the ball well.... cut down some dribbling and take the points when the D gives it to you.

NC State is much closer than they should be.
November 27th, 2012 at 8:17 PM ^
We should honestly be up by 14 at least.

And they were when I tuned in with around 8 minutes to go in the half. From that point on, we pulled down exactly ONE rebound, did a fair amount of matador defense, and essentially seemed to decide not to apply the killer stroke.
A bit more intensity would put this one away.

Trey Burke has 8 assists. We're far better off with him getting the whole roster involved than relying on him making bailout shots a la last year. His scoring will be there when we need it, but right now we don't
November 27th, 2012 at 8:23 PM ^
assist scrouge.
He has 9.

What an awesome feeling it is to know that you have a good basketball team. I don't know if I could've ever said that in my 24 years of fandom (obviously was too young in the Fab 5 era). I'm literally giddy.

Enjoy this! I thought Michigan was entitled to good teams and talent but I learned otherwise.
It's fun watching this team play.

Instead of 59. I want him coaching Michigan basketball for 20 more years!

I think you might get your wish. John Beilein isn't going anywhere for a long time.

Call to MGoPhotoshoppers:
Nik Stauskas on Fire!! (He has lived his life on Fire after all)
November 27th, 2012 at 8:21 PM ^
I blame the 2 cheap fouls on vogrich...because when stauskas needed the breather belein sent in akunne, which led to the mini-run by nc state because he took 2 horrible shots.
November 27th, 2012 at 8:24 PM ^
Akunne came in for THJr, not Stauskas, I believe. It was the only time Timmy was on the bench the whole half. With LaVert redshirting, Hardaway is the only guy we don't have a good sub for.
I'd rather see Vogrich and Molson Ice on together instead of Akunne though.
November 27th, 2012 at 8:33 PM ^
You may be right. I would frankly rather see spike than akunne.
November 27th, 2012 at 8:31 PM ^
For real, Akunne needs to only see mop up minutes. He can't handle the ball, plays subpar D and takes horrible shots. My main point is.....

November 27th, 2012 at 8:25 PM ^
we just need a more consistent D effort
November 27th, 2012 at 8:26 PM ^
This team could very well be the number 1 team in the country.
They do have a few weaknesses.
November 27th, 2012 at 8:28 PM ^
we will be once all of our young guys gain more experience - possibly mid-way through the Big Ten season. I think we are comfortably Top 10 already, but this team WILL GET BETTER.
It's not only the freshman that will get better. Al Horford will definitely improve as he's only played a few minutes of college ball. But possibly the biggest improvement will come from Burke who, until today's first half 9 assists, was not playing well - shooting poorly, taking bad shots, and not distributing the ball too well (for his ability). He will learn how to adjust to this team and will improve both assists and shooting.
Yeah, top 3 ... at least.
November 27th, 2012 at 8:22 PM ^
Need to take it to the rack in the second half and force them to give up easy baskets or get their bigs in foul trouble.
November 27th, 2012 at 8:30 PM ^
This. We can bang and have fouls to spare in the front court.
November 27th, 2012 at 8:23 PM ^
just about all the analysts, studio guys as well as play by play guys are very impressed by M....wait till we get even more cohesive

Trey isn't even scoring and we are still looking amazing. This team is so sick!!!!
November 27th, 2012 at 8:27 PM ^
A top scorer doesn't get a point and still finds a way to contribute. Meanwhile, the rest of the Wolverines are lighting it up.
November 27th, 2012 at 8:26 PM ^
Burke's 9 assists tie his career high. The Michigan record is 14 (Gary Grant did it twice in 1987).

I remember being so sad at the thought of losing Zack and Stu... what they contributed on and off the floor, and especially leadership role. But my god, has Beilein replaced them with legit talent. Guys with future NBA talent.
Not as bummed as originally thought I would be without those two. But I'll always appreciate what they helped build here.

Lets go Staus Baus!!!
November 27th, 2012 at 8:33 PM ^
I go back to the Ricky Green, C.J.Cupek, Hubbard, Johnny Rob, Wayman Britt, Steve Grote and I was spoiled for the most of 3 decades and then an SUV took a tumble and so did our beloved program.
Really nice to see this resurgence that seems like it will be a sustaining thing going forward.
I grew up with U-M being a perennial top ten team in both FB & BB, glad to be there again.
November 27th, 2012 at 8:32 PM ^
Said it earlier..... I love the Fab 5, was an awesome time to be a Michigan BB fan. But I think this team will work harder in the regular season, and might end up accomplishing more if we can get some of these guys to stay for two years or more.

Coming out of the half looking downright sluggish
November 27th, 2012 at 8:36 PM ^
We are getting straight up dominated down low on the blocks.
