Elite 11 - Day 3
The Elite 11 Coaches released their initial rankings through 3 days of competition this evening, and it's kind of surprising considering the reports that were coming from the recruiting websites.
From Brian Stumpf twitter:
1. Johnny Stanton #Cornhuskers
2. Zack Greenlee #uncommitted
3. Malik Zaire #Irish
4. Jared Goff #Cal
5. DeVante Kincade #OleMiss
6. Davis Webb #TexasTech
8. Luke Del Rio #OkState
9. Christian Hackenberg #PennState
10. Riley Ferguson #Vols
11. Shane Cockerille. #Maryland
No Shane Morris, Brice Ramsey, Cooper Bateman, Kevin Olsen, Danny Etling, or JT Barrett. Competition continues this evening.
What is going on in your picture?
That is exactly right.
Andre's art is the greatest.
Better than his shitty adult contemporary music.
Fuck you Dilfer!
He won a Super Bowl.
You do not disappoint.
But I heard the Dilfer troll siren, so...
multiple recruiting sites have Shane as a top 2 QB and Trent "i wonz super bowlz" Difler says not top 10? I'm listening...
This is just a mind game. They also didn't let Shane throw for most of the session on Day 2 just to create a one shot at success kind of atmosphere when he did throw. And if he doesn't make the top 11 overall, Shane will just have to prove the doubters wrong when he becomes the starter.
Maybe it will create more buzz around the event, more spark in the supposed top qb's. But jesus can anyone call a spade a spade? That would be like voters unraking Alabama because they want to lite a fire under their asses. I guess thats just not how I roll.
The Kluneberg is top five, no doubt. I'm also privy to The Anniversary Party and the episode where Ruxin has a stroke.
I have no idea what's going on right now.
List will be updated daily and last year, the names from day 1 to the final list were dramatically different
More on rankings, chalk talk count a ton & players are judged not just on completing the pass but making the right read during film review
Also found this funny from counselor Matt Barkley's turn at 7-on-7 today:
Elite 11 perspective, Matt Barkley: 2 check downs, 2 coverage sacks, 2 INT's. This stuff is fun, but it's not the ultimate evaluation tool
I had a bad feeling when Ferell said Shane was number 1...that guy has a warped sense of reality.
I thought it was given out to the player that had the best performance for the day?
I think it's just for the best looking guy.
was just involved in a unfortunate "Sh-melting" accident....
Wait maybe these rankings are from worst to best?
I had this same thought... but there must me more to the story, like academics or something...
Christian Hackenberg is ranked?
Most not be any defenders on the field.
No, they figured hiim out. The coaches tricked Hackenberg into thinking all the WRs were actually DBs, and after that all of his throws were right on the money.
That's the type of insight you can only get from a Super Bowl winning QB coach.
Just read that Shane had 7 completions (out of 8 throws) with 3 deep TDs in 7v7 tonight. That combined with winning the accuracy competition yesterday im not sure how they coming up with these rankings. Oh well, only day 3
Group 3 done, 1. Shane Morris 2. JT Barrett 3. Zach Greenlee 4. Danny Etling , Shane best so far today at Elite 11 7v7
Group 1 finished, struggled with the wind, but 1. Max Browne 2. Jared Goff 3. Zach Allen 4. Shane Cockerill not a lot of separation 1-4
2nd group done - 1. Cooper Bateman 2. Asiantii Woulard 3. Malik Zaire 4. Davis Webb 5. Riley Ferguson Coop and Woulard clear top 2
Shane Morris just threaded a pass between two defenders for a TD. Looks more relaxed today. #Elite11 #Michigan
Shane Morris fires a strike. The #Michigan commit is bouncing back well in 7-on-7 today. #Elite11
Two players who surprisingly missed the cut were Kevin Olsen and Shane Morris but again, a lot goes on behind the scenes that we don't see
Yesterday the experts were all over this kids nuts and today he is "bouncing back." Is this one of those every kid is a winner camps?
I heard that he had a rough later part of day 2.
I am half expecting Trent Dilfer to further downgrade Shane. Nice to hear he is doing well tonight.
Behind the scenes? Did they have a pie eating contest or swimsuit competition? Completing a bunch of passes and scoring TD's should be enough to make the top group.
Group 4 1. Kevin Olsen 2. Johnny Stanton 3. Anthony Jennings 4.Cody Thomas. Olsen and Morris, top 2 tonight
As much as these camps mean to our bragging rights, I really don't care about how well shane does. Sure a QB can make or break your team. But with the talent that Hoke and Co. are bringing in around Shane should ease any concerns we may have.
I seem to remember at one of these elite 11's I watched on ESPN, they purposely downgraded the "top talent" at the camp to see how they would respond. No idea if that is what is going on or not but wouldn't surprise me. Morris border's on over-confident (which most good QB's do) so taking the kid down a peg and seeing if he responds wouldn't be a bad thing.
Shane bombed the classroom portion.
The drama at this event is staged. They essentially scramble their top player lists every day to turn it into a soap opera. It was done the same way in past years.
Shane got into a little bit of trouble at the camp and is being taught a lesson.
If I wanted advice on mechanics, ball placement and accracy, Trent Dilfer would not be my first option. He is a smart guy and for the most part knows how to win but he was never spectacular and will never be in the HOF. The only reason he got that Superbowl ring is because he had an OUTSTANDING defense. Ray Lewis was the MVP that game. While I am not knocking him saying he is clueless I just dont think he iis the best evaluater. IMO. Last year when I watched the Elite 11 & the year of the QB, he seemed quite bias. I am not just looking through Maize glasses I am just giving my opinion. Film study is not where your on field performance, these kids will not even learn in depth film study until the arrive on a college campus im sure. Either way we all know that Morris is the best fit for us no matter what Dilfer thinks. Max Browne is a good talent but IMO him and Shane are tied at the top.
