MSU AD advises Burke to not use his advice. Sparty On.
@Trey_Burke3 My advice, believe in YOUR heart & mind, everything else is interference. People u seek out is better than those that seek u.
Let me get this straight. Mark Hollis sought out Trey Bruke to advise him not to listen to people who seek him out? Classic Sparty.
There has GOT to be some kind of tampering rule that this is a blatant violation of, hasn't there?
I would be so embaressed if I was a msu fan.
That's embarassing.
Please down-vote me so my shame can be hidden.
If I'm Burke and the MSU AD tweeted me, I would slap him with my heat-seeking love missle.
WTF is up with ADs these days? Why can't they just administrate like administrators do and stay the f-ck out of the public eye? I'll tell you why - they are egotistical maniacs who crave attention. Here's some advice to all you ADs out there: Do your jobs like everyone else and shut the f-ck up.
um. Dave Brandon is on twitter.. he and hollis tweet at each other alot too.
My statement applies to all ADs.
With things like this, I definitely agree. Time and time again, Hollis comes across as a child.
The Roy Roundtree thing wasn't allowed because the kid was a recruit. Coaches aren't even allowed to say a recruits name to the media until LOI's are in. NCAA has some weird rules, because i know that twitter thing happens all the time.
Burke tweeted that everyone is trying to tell him what to do, and Hollis said to listen to his mind and seek the help of people he wants. I dont understand the outrage over it? Maybe its the rival school thing, but Hollis's job is to make money for the school, and a better Michigan team means more money coming in for the game against michigan. also hollis loves to help the state of michigan (like scheduling home and homes with CMU and EMU to help them out. sigh)
My job around here is to keep things civil, so it's really challenging for me not to point out the bat-shit ridiculousness of your logic.
Never said he was a not a good person, but this is wrong on so many levels. Just sit back and think about this one and if this was another AD saying this to your athletes.
double post
I did, and if Dave Brandon tweeted this to say, Jerel Worthy, I wouldn't mind. Telling him to follow his heart and don't listen to everyone else. It's classy to support a young kid who's making a tough life changing decision, all rivalries aside.
When he's "supporting" a guy who basically JUST said "Holy balls please leave me alone," it's a little out of place.
Besides, if you think he's doing this for the best interest of the State of Michigan, you've inhaled too much couch smoke.
I promise that if Worthy was on the fence and Brandon was sending him unsolicited, rather cryptic tweets about his NFL decision, MSU fans would be up in arms about it. And rightfully so. it might not be evil, but it's awkward and inappropriate. Hollis is there for MSU athletes, his services aren't needed for ours.
Odd for AD to tweet to Burke? Yes
Good advice? Yes
Yes.
Don't u think u is bein hard on him?
Let's stop with the "it's good advice" thing. It's not. Burke needs to hear the voices that have some idea about his draft prospects.
It's no coincidence that Hollis wrote this shortly after a whole bunch of experts advised Burke to stay in school.

If his heart is telling him to go to the NBA even though he'd go undrafted, it's absolutely shitty advice.
you don't see the utter absurdity of approaching Burke to tell him to ignore people who approach him, as the TITLE of this post points out?
The things that come out of this guys mouth are ridiculous, he's worse then Gordan Gee.
Hollis doesn't get when to talk and when not to talk. There's this, and then I think sometime last year he said somthing like "I'll take a better program over a better season any day" after we beat them in basketball. There's been one or two other occaisions where I wondered why the MSU PR team doesn't shut down his twitter
He said that after last season, not after the michigan game. Then tweeted next "im dissapointed with our season but proud of our program"
Incorrect. It was closer to that which was posted above. A dig at our basketball team and his football team.
you mean "exactly", you would be right. This post was made less than seven hours after tipoff and quoted directly from Hollis. Unless they saw into the future, Hollis said this the day of the game.
I don't always offer unsolicited advice, but when I do, I tell them to ignore unsolicited advice.
lmao at the dumbass michigan fans. you guys cry about everything
read the tweet again. .. this time VERY carefully. You might get what at least half of the posters here are trying to tell you.
I get the hypocrisy, I get the grammar issues, and I get that people think what he did is unprofessional. Forget the semantics. He's trying to be friendly to a rival and I respect that.
Note: My post above was a response to a troll, not the other guy.
NCAA Bylaw 13.1.1.3
An athletics staff member or other representative of the institution’s athletics interests shall not make contact with the student-athlete of another NCAA or NAIA four-year collegiate institution, directly or indirectly, without first obtaining the written permission of the first institution’s athletics director (or an athletics administrator designated by the athletics director) to do so, regardless of who makes the initial contact.
Sparty NOOO!
Things with which you should NOT make contact:
1) Punters
2) Other schools' athletes.

Lack of institutional control!

13.02.4 Contact. A contact is any face-to-face encounter between a prospective student-athlete or the prospective
student-athlete’s parents, relatives or legal guardians and an institutional staff member or athletics representative
during which any dialogue occurs in excess of an exchange of a greeting. Any such face-to-face encounter
that is prearranged (e.g., staff member positions himself or herself in a location where contact is possible) or that
takes place on the grounds of the prospective student-athlete’s educational institution or at the site of organized
competition or practice involving the prospective student-athlete or the prospective student-athlete’s high school,
preparatory school, two-year college or all-star team shall be considered a contact, regardless of whether any
conversation occurs. However, an institutional staff member or athletics representative who is approached by a
prospective student-athlete or the prospective student-athlete’s parents, relatives or legal guardians at any location
shall not use a contact, provided the encounter was not prearranged and the staff member or athletics representative
does not engage in any dialogue in excess of a greeting and takes appropriate steps to immediately terminate
the encounter. (Revised: 1/11/94 effective 8/1/94)
This is the definition of "contact" as used in 13.1.1.3 which is titled "Four-year college prospective student-athletes" and is in the section of the bylaws regarding the recruiting of players. Hollis did not meet with Burke face-to-face and Burke is not a prospective student athlete. None of these rules apply.
He's joing the NCAA men's basketball committee next year. So get ready for 4 years of crappy seeds out West.
I don't know if it's just me but I have a hard time seeing Dave Brandon ever doing something like this. Frankly I don't have a problem with it as a Michigan fan but it seems so inappropriate and... lame. Lame is the word that comes to mind.
Want to know whats funny? We are your "2nd rival." Yet, you talk about us more than tO$U and yourselves combined.
1) U of M
2) Ohio
3) what to name your dog and how to take care of its anal gland infections
4) MSU
