Open Thread: NCAA Hockey Early Games (MSU vs Union 3pm) (Ferris vs Denver 5:30pm)

Submitted by Fhshockey112002 on

Have at it guys, first game has very little impact unless Michigan meets Union in the National Semi Finals.

The second game starts at 5:30 and the winner advances to face the winner of Michigan/Cornell.

Union vs MSU is on ESPNU but, www.espn3.com has all the coverage

That's probably gonna be the game. Yeesh. Best MSU can do now is 5-on-5 with an empty net.

I am amused at the thought of MSU basketball and hockey being eliminated within 24 hours of each other. /GLASS HOUSES NO JINX

See, I never just did things just to do them, c'mon I mean, what I'm gonna do just all of the sudden just jump up and grind my feet in somebody's couch like it's something to do? Come on, I got a little more sense than that. ...Yeah, I remember grinding my feet into Eddie's couch.

Just got back from Bridgeport. Thoroughly enjoyed the ECAC beating Sparty, who would have been easy to root against even if I weren't already a Michigan fan. MSU's strong suit was cheese, particularly in the form of little after-the-whistle BS (after Union's last goal was only the most flagrant example). Union looked a little tentative, and gassed in the third. Their goalie may have to carry them through against Miami (presumably) if the ECAC is to snag an elusive Frozen Four berth.

Way overmatched by a better Union squad. But boy with Izzo going down to Louisville and now State out of the NCAA hockey tourney are there any couches left in East Lansing?!

Hockey East refs in the Ferris-Denver game.  That means about a 90 percent chance of WCHA refs for Michigan-Cornell, which is mostly good.  Michigan doesn't do well with Hockey East refs.

It's pretty much guaranteed that Hockey East refs will do the final of the Green Bay regional tomorrow, because Green Bay is the only regional without a Hockey East team.

Ferris looks pretty good, but obviously a step down in skill. They'll have to play a tight, defensive game to win. If it opens up and teams get lots of shots / lots of PP chances, Ferris will almost certainly lose

I'm surprised Miami isn't winning 4-0 already. Miami just seems to be a bad tourney team sometimes. Seems like they usually lose in inexplicable loses / chokes / breakdowns / blowouts

Make that 2-0 UML with a shorty, Czarnik is on the scoresheet, turnover at the UML blueline, lead to a breakaway goal. Knapp looks shaky to say the least

UMass shorthanded goal. Miami turned it over at the blue line off a puck that bounced, and UMass had a fast guy on a breakaway. And when it scored.....absolutely nothing from the crowd. Damn NCAA

That was a really bad pass on that one. Miami is looking bad. I almost feel bad bc a good friend of mine is a Miami fan and I can feel has NCAA-tourney-pain

who wins the FSU/Denver game at this point, I just want it to end in regulation.  My reasons for this are two-fold:

1.  I'm already way too anxious for the Michigan/Cornell game and if I have to wait longer for it, I might explode.

2.  Whoever wins the late game, I want them to have more time for rest before the game tomorrow.
