I would say that with a likely finish of 1-4 for our remaining targets my reaction is not an overreaction. If you cant see that Urban is out recruiting Hoke then that is just your maized colored glasses. Whats worse is that he out-recruiting Hoke with just two months on the job following a 6-7 record. If we cant beat Urban for recruits after going 11-2 then when will we?
January 30th, 2012 at 12:16 AM ^
when we beat their ass on the field next year. we have several ohio recruits this year which bodes well for the future battles against meyer.
January 30th, 2012 at 12:18 AM ^
Only matters on the football field. Maybe the naysayers should field a team..oh and coach one too.
what a bunch of fucking Chicken Littles
January 30th, 2012 at 12:24 AM ^
Yeah we beat OSU one year while they were having their worst year in a decade. Everyone claims the tide has turned, blah blah blah. The hell it has. The momentum is clearly on OSU's side. Hoke has done nothing but beat the worst OSU team in a decade, and barely at that. Meanwhile, OSU is getting anyone they want and is out recruiting us like a madman. The field matters, but recruiting is where you get the team to take that field.

Kyle. Kalis.
January 30th, 2012 at 12:46 AM ^
The Kyle Kalis bridge was burned, there was no going back for him. Not after what those psycho Ohio fans were saying to him..
January 30th, 2012 at 12:35 AM ^
Everyone claims the tide has turned, blah blah blah. The hell it hasYou must not have gotten the memo about the Night Jerseys. They sold like hotcakes in Ohio
January 30th, 2012 at 12:57 AM ^
we return 15-16 starters. they return less than that. and we beat them this year. so we should be favored to win again next year. then we get them back at home the following year.
and i think you are underestimating this class. we already have some serious talent at areas of need, OL, LB and DL. 2013 will be key to grab a stud WR and RB and typically, those positions can play from day 1.
January 30th, 2012 at 6:36 AM ^
the worst part of the RR years is that it produced a bunch of people that will upvote defeatist crap like this. first year coaches always recruit well, and urban meyer is 0-1 against michigan. save your crying until something bad happens.
January 30th, 2012 at 8:16 AM ^
Hoke beat the only Ohio team he has had the oppurtunity to beat. Don't hold that against him. The momentum was on our side during the summer when WE WERE SIGNING EVERYONE! It has simply just balanced out and we have very comparable classes....as expected always between the two schools. Lastly, the field is all that matters. Ask John Cooper how those top 5 classes worked for him on the field.

Muller is reconsidering his Rutgers selection too.
January 30th, 2012 at 12:09 AM ^
I bet Rutgers beats us out as well.
January 30th, 2012 at 12:40 AM ^
Since he's currently committed to Rutgers. It's not a bad thing that he is reconsidering though.

Does Purdue have any recruits we can steal?
January 30th, 2012 at 12:18 AM ^
Meyer will then just steal them from us.
January 30th, 2012 at 12:18 AM ^
Please tell me you're joking. Meyer hasn't taken anyone away from us.
January 30th, 2012 at 12:23 AM ^
Yes, I'm joking.
Your avatar seems to be missing something.

You're quicker than I am. I was just editing my original post because I realized you've been around longer than I have. My apologies.

January 30th, 2012 at 12:22 AM ^
dion witty from Fla. he must be related to the kid we wanted a couple years ago.
January 30th, 2012 at 1:31 AM ^
Would we ever want to steal a Purdue commit? And before you say it, don't even bring up Roundtree. He'd rarely see the field on a Michigan team with an average group (for M) of WRs because he's too slow and has a nasty case of the dropsies. He's one who's benefited tremendously from a less-than-stellar wide receiver corps over the last few years.
January 30th, 2012 at 12:11 AM ^
If we don't get a 5th OL in this class it will be a big fail.

. . . .and now the trifecta:
- Kozan to Iowa,
- Reeves to Ohio State,
- Madaris to Michigan State.
Good thing we did not lose to Ohio State in hoops or anything like that. 'Cause then my Sunday would be really shitty.

I am so suprised how many 50 50 posts we struck out on recently. I am probably over reacting, but I feel like it is just a way a kid can politely say I do not really want to go to your school, All the while knowing very well they have no intentions in signing with one of the 50 50's.
January 30th, 2012 at 12:18 AM ^
We will close Diamond, Grant, Henry and probably one more unexpected recruit and everyone will be happy. This is temporary hardship.
I have to say the way Team 132 played showed me a lot. Michigan doesn't just recruit talent, they build leaders and best. It's not just a slogan or a punchline - I love the kids who have committed and I hope we land some more but I'm not going to be upset by OSU out recruiting or any such nonsense. John Cooper routinely out recruited us but the type of players MIchigan used to recruit and will recruit again and the fire that this staff has to win with toughness and integrity will show up on the football field.
Team 132 which isn't even close to as talented as Team 136 and 137 will be just went 11-2. I'm not afraid of OSU - they had owned us for 8 years. They should be afraid of us. They better out recruit because they aren't going to out smart us and they aren't going to out play us. That I can guarantee.
January 30th, 2012 at 12:21 AM ^
Oh what's the point of being rational? Meyer is going to go 140-0 while at Ohio.
Goodbye, cruel world.
/jumps off a cliff
January 30th, 2012 at 12:28 AM ^
Seeing as he can't go to a bowl next year, he'll only go 139-0.
January 30th, 2012 at 2:22 AM ^
Ah, but he also can't go to the Big 10 championship game either. 138-0
January 30th, 2012 at 12:22 AM ^

While I'm on a roll here, (I'm 3 for 3), I'm saying Grant to Oklahoma, Muller to Rutgers, Diamond to Wisconsin, Henry to Illinois, and Diggs to Auburn. Michigan will end its class at 23 and bank for the next one, without filling needs at WR, C, OT, DT, and CB.

Yep, those 11 4* and 5* players who committed last year don't count. Everyone knows the players who commit around signing day are the best. Why do we even try? Just forefeit to Ohio for the next ten years and save ourselves the embarrassment.

Reeves is the first real commit that Meyer "beat" Hoke on in a head-to-head recruiting match. It was going to happen at some point. Hoke will win his share, too. Reeves doesn't affect my view of the 2012 class, but it's unusual because Michigan was talking to Reeves a lot longer than Ohio, and Hoke and Mattison both put time in with Reeves. Combine this with Ohio's NCAA sanctions, including a bowl ban, and generally tarnished reputation for being corrupt for a decade, and it's a head-scratcher. But, hey, if the kid didn't want to come to Michigan, then I am glad he didnt commit, because Michigan doesn't need another "fail and bail" DB story for a long time.
I still trust Mattison to survey the defense for what he wants, and the momentum from consistent winning happens in 2013, not 2012. Beat Alabama and Ohio next season and the Michigan "brand" will be completely solid come NSD for 2013.
January 30th, 2012 at 12:43 AM ^
That's all that really matters. Hoke & Co. exceeded expectations in 2011 and they can do it again.
