I blame Jared Sullinger's face for being the first thing you see on the front page right now...bad juju.

I have a stong feeling that the next 10 years will see plenty of recruiting battles like this. I just hope that we can win our fair share both in recruiting and on the field. Welcome to the Big 2 2012 to ? version.
January 29th, 2012 at 11:01 PM ^
I would rather win Kalis than lose Reeves personally. We won many head to head battles with OSU but lost his one. We will lose others. Those are the breaks. Win consistently on the field and these battles get easier. Plus even when Cooper was there they had hire ranked classes often. Didn't prevent us from winning.
The key for OSU is to get Ohio kids. We are doing damage there. In addition, honestly, I can't think of the last great college player who came to the midwest from Massachusetts. This not a high powered football area. Most of these kids tend to underperform. He was a very good player but not a game changer from what I could see. And that was playing other Mass programs so not sure how that will even translate.
January 29th, 2012 at 9:42 PM ^
were trending down while we were on an incredible roll, something is amiss and illogical. you can't always get what you want but you get what you need.

Um, Standifer? ...
Are you still there? ...
Standifer? ...
Me still love you.

Diamond and Grant and then bank the rest. We still recruit better than 10 other schools in the big ten. Ohio doesn't have a Mattison on their defensive staff.
January 29th, 2012 at 9:45 PM ^
ace is saying on twitter, gotta remind ourselves that we're still going to have a top 10 class. but man, we sure have stumbled down the stretch. looking where we were in the summer, and where we are now, its hard not to feel a bit dissapointed.
January 29th, 2012 at 9:45 PM ^
Seriously, who gets the boot now that they have more commits than available schollies?
January 29th, 2012 at 9:45 PM ^
OMG! Go find Justin Turner! What about Cullen Christian! We're putting the band back together!!
/Obi Ezeh not included
January 29th, 2012 at 9:55 PM ^
I heard from a reliable source that Cullen Christian benched 225 one time in his final bench test at UM. Ha!

If you don't think this seriously sucks, you are in denial. And I hardly ever say that about recruiting situations.
January 29th, 2012 at 9:46 PM ^
We have not scored a big time recruit yet. I hope Hoke can finish strong, but at this moment we're losing too many 50/50 battles.
January 29th, 2012 at 9:48 PM ^
what do you mean by 'yet'? since this summer or since we've been locking up 2013 recruits?
January 29th, 2012 at 9:54 PM ^
You get my nomination for dumbest post in this thread.
January 29th, 2012 at 10:15 PM ^
you get my nomination for dumbest person on this earth. Don't judge people unless you're perfect.
January 29th, 2012 at 10:55 PM ^
I didn't judge people, I made fun of the context your post. How is having a top 10 class not landing a single big named recruit?
January 29th, 2012 at 10:43 PM ^
I'll vote for that.
January 29th, 2012 at 9:46 PM ^
Kid chose his friend over a better opportunity in every way: depth chart, academics, coaching (Mattison > Fickell). We never had a chance with him - his godfather (for some reason) ran his recruitment and clearly wanted him at OSU with his son. Whatever, on to the next ones.
January 29th, 2012 at 9:46 PM ^
Im almost begining to think that getting so many commits early wasnt necessarily the best thing that could happen. It seems like more an more of these recruits are stalling at their perceived chances of playing early, and are scared off by the quanity and quality of recruits we have had committed since basically the end of summer. This mostly applies to OL recruits, and we are spot thing at CB, but as a whole its odd that we havent been able to capitalize on the tremendous recruiting momentum that we started with in the summer.
January 29th, 2012 at 9:53 PM ^
Really? It wasn't a good thing that we brought in so many quality recruits early and are going to finish with a top ten class? Id say that's a good problem to have...it certainly sucks that we missed out on some big time recruits but like Hoke says, you're not going to bat a thousand...even if we don't get another commit we still have a heck of a class coming in.
January 29th, 2012 at 10:04 PM ^
you never want to have too many good recruits, bc then you can't get more. That's why it's always best to not have many good recruits.
January 29th, 2012 at 10:52 PM ^
As soon as OSU hired Meyer it ended Hoke's ability to close on the top recruits. It's easy when there is no competition. Hoke and Mattison are too old to compete with the grinding that Meyer puts out. he is relentles.
January 29th, 2012 at 9:47 PM ^
At least we're not Penn State.
January 29th, 2012 at 9:47 PM ^
Jesus everyone needs to relax. A few things to note:
1. OSU has thrived off the misery of others. More than a quarter of their class are now from other schools, with what, 6 from PSU alone? Let's see what they can do without the implosion of another Big Ten School.
2. Hoke is fighting uphill battles in nearly everyone of these 50/50s. This kid had his best friend and godfather basically forcing him one way for the last month. Also see Garnett and Kozan.
3. We already have a great class.
4. I would strongly question how OSU's team chemistry is going to play out over the next few years. When you get 18-year-old idiots committing because of a name and not a relationship, you get 6-6 Florida.
January 29th, 2012 at 9:55 PM ^
until stupid is as stupid does
January 29th, 2012 at 9:56 PM ^
18 yrear old idiots? Is that what we do here now? Unreal. I dont wish him bad luck but I hope he does bad against us but lets not bash kids for not picking our school

That said, I still can't beleive a recruit would ever choose to play for Luke Fickell over Greg Mattison. lol.
January 29th, 2012 at 9:49 PM ^
I hope he is never better than an average cb. I don't want him to suck, that would be too harsh.
January 29th, 2012 at 9:50 PM ^
Two 50/50s with academics not being in Michigans favor, never thought I'd see that.
January 29th, 2012 at 9:51 PM ^
Oh one more thing -
Statisically, on the field success tends to lead to recruiting success the year after that season. Hoke has a great start to the 2013 class, and it will only get better.
January 29th, 2012 at 9:51 PM ^
Would our Top 10 class be so, without OSU imploding? We still get the M guys, but do we get the Ohio kids, especially because Meyer likes to strongly recruit whoemever is coming to Michigan?
January 29th, 2012 at 9:52 PM ^
Some people on this thread are incredible. The kid wanted to go play with family. He liked OSu too from his visit. Why is there so much crying over this?
January 30th, 2012 at 3:57 AM ^
Because we aren't getting ANYONE lately and it's frustrating. If you don't take people to task for getting excited about commits, you can't criticize fans for being disappointed when spurned.
January 29th, 2012 at 9:53 PM ^
He obviously placed a premium on his education.
January 29th, 2012 at 9:55 PM ^
is bs in this scenario. Stanford, yes. Ohio, no way.
January 29th, 2012 at 9:56 PM ^
The coaches did a good job with this class and it's a top 10 class. But can't hide that I'm disappointed how this is finishing up. We're really getting blanked by our top targets. I would WR use to Urb pulling classes like this. His name is huge and ohio has cache with recruits from recent success. I would expect Ohio to have a big 2013 class. 2013 is where well really see how UM can battle them head to head. it's obvious they're watching who we offer and gong after them. Should be interesting to watch.
January 29th, 2012 at 9:57 PM ^
I hope he doesn't catch any life-threatening illnesses. Does that make me less classy for not wanting him to play well?
January 29th, 2012 at 9:58 PM ^
o/u on the number of arrests for osu's class - 7
January 30th, 2012 at 12:07 AM ^
Do you count total arrests or number of players arrested?
<br>For example, Darryl Stonum was arrested 4 times. Does that count as 4 or 1?
