The Tate Forcier saga continues
January 9th, 2012 at 6:03 PM ^
Hope Tate is okay.
January 10th, 2012 at 12:51 AM ^
Given the state of the economy good for him, he can help out the family that helped him, no sarc intended.
January 9th, 2012 at 6:03 PM ^
Wow.
January 9th, 2012 at 6:04 PM ^
is this what you'd call the Marinovich experience? All kidding aside, I liked Tate's guts and efforts...just dropped the ball academically and that won't cut it...dang as said hope he's OK...wow.
January 9th, 2012 at 6:04 PM ^
I'm getting worried about the kid, like really worried.
January 9th, 2012 at 6:09 PM ^
I hope there isn't something seriously wrong. I really want to see him excel somewhere, as I think he has great potential.
January 10th, 2012 at 7:33 AM ^
but from a distance, he seems to have a very troubled personality. He seems to have a very grandiose view of himself, almost to the point of thinking of himself in the 3rd person. (Jimmy played pretty well today, Jimmy doesn't eat meat, Jimmy is a vegetarian). "I don't get nervous - "Tate doesn't get nervous." Even in the San Jose State interview, it seemed as though he believed that his presence there has some sort of greater significance, that it was yet another Chapter in the life of Tate Forcier, like his own saga that he had created in his head. Having a cursory yet adequately informed knowledge of some mental/emotional disorders (not from training but more from being from a family with a nice little cocktail of various "abnormalities"), it is a troubling characteristic. He is also prone to making very brash and impulsive decisions based on anything resembling rejection or any interference with his self-perpetuated persona. It is as though there may be two different, um, poles, at work, we will call them the north and the south, for purposes of continuing the double speak, and as if he is either at one or the other.
In any case, I also hope he make heads and tails out of the last few years and figure out that he may need some assistance in making sense of things right now.
January 9th, 2012 at 6:05 PM ^
Just when I was starting to forget about you...in a good way.
January 9th, 2012 at 6:06 PM ^
Todd Marinovich just came to mind
January 9th, 2012 at 6:45 PM ^
Marv (Todd's father) was Tate's personal trainer
January 9th, 2012 at 8:28 PM ^
thus my comment on the marinovich factor..what's crazy...when I was doing my undergrad we saw a film on everything Todd went through from precise medically stable foods to zero junk, to Russian eye specialists, to regimented strength training measured on force transducers...it was crazy...and then he went to USC and found out if a cheeseburger tastes this damn good...what the hell is cocaine like? not a pretty deal...the kid was a specemine but unfortunately went off the deep end...and once I found out the Forcier family was affiliated...I had a bad feeling. Again really liked the kid and hope he's OK but it sure doesn't bode well.
January 9th, 2012 at 10:12 PM ^
If you watch the recent ESPN film on Marinovich you can hear straight from the horse's mouth that all of the "kid who never tasted soda" stuff was blown way out of proportion by the media.
January 10th, 2012 at 9:43 AM ^
...that the older I get and the more I learn about food, I think that all of the "avoiding junk food" stuff might actually have been good parenting.
Never thought I would think that about the Marinovichs.
January 9th, 2012 at 6:08 PM ^
I hope he is okay and finds some stability in his life.
January 9th, 2012 at 6:10 PM ^
I know he wasn't an ideal citizen at Michigan, but I'll always root for him. Hopefully there's some very good reason for this, though it's hard to imagine what it would be.
January 9th, 2012 at 6:10 PM ^
This kids is a nightmare. I hope all is well. Maybe Borges isolation of Denard in the Sugar Bowl drove him as crazy it did me.
January 9th, 2012 at 6:11 PM ^
Que the "Taters gonna Tate" pic....

Damn you Google! I'm only going to Yahoo! from now on.
January 10th, 2012 at 1:07 AM ^
Wrong. The co-founder of Google, Larry Page, is a Michigan alum (and a former commencement speaker).
Google r00lz.

January 9th, 2012 at 8:20 PM ^
I wanted to go full on queue, but didn't have the chutzpah.
January 9th, 2012 at 6:12 PM ^
I'm glad I never had parents like his.
January 9th, 2012 at 6:29 PM ^
And every chance to succeed. I know poor bastard... /s
January 9th, 2012 at 6:29 PM ^
seems to be the theme of the day. Marinovich, Forcier, and even Henson all had their careers screwed up by parents who wanted to live vicariously through their kids and ended up being hyper-controlling. You have to let them live their own lives sooner or later.
January 9th, 2012 at 6:31 PM ^
It's drew hensons parents fault the he chose to take guaranteed Steinbrenner money?

Eventually you have to fault the kids and just say "they fucked up". Let them be responsible for their own actions.
January 9th, 2012 at 6:37 PM ^
Kinda of when you think "Hey I can set myself AND my parents up for the long term" knowing just how much they've spent on you in getting you to this point and how controlling they still were.
January 9th, 2012 at 6:40 PM ^
that seems to be the impression I got from the much-maligned Rosenburg article. Henson's dad wanted him to split time between baseball and football, and had him sign a contract early on, before he even started college. I could be wrong, and you DO have to take what Rosenburg says with a dump-truck of salt, but that's the way it looks. Henson also said he regretted not staying at Michigan for his senior year and concentrating on one sport or the other.
In any event, what is beyond dispute is that daddy Henson was a controlling freak who wouldn't leave his kid alone. Doesn't sound like a guy who would let his son make his own decisions if he wouldn't even let him practice or talk to colleges without daddy's approval.
January 9th, 2012 at 7:40 PM ^
SI article on Tom Brady (I didn't notice who the author was). It talked about Henson's Dad and how involved he was. Drew is quoted as saying that if he ever has a child, he won't be envolved in trying to micro-manage his life for him. You should check out that article.
January 9th, 2012 at 8:30 PM ^
That's the same article I was referring to (by Rosenburg). You're absolutely right; the comment by Drew about his own parenting style is very telling about what he thinks about what his dad did.
January 9th, 2012 at 6:16 PM ^
Some kids just do not do to well in a academic setting. Hopefully, he will find an interest in life to pursue!
January 9th, 2012 at 6:23 PM ^
We'll always have Notre Dame '09. Really hope he pulls his life together
January 9th, 2012 at 6:56 PM ^
And 3-OT Illinois 2010.

Time to update http://qbforce.com/
January 9th, 2012 at 6:55 PM ^
It seems a little ridiculous to have a picture on there that says "Jason Forcier backup to Chad Henne who is now with the Miami Dolphins"
January 9th, 2012 at 7:18 PM ^
That's all that seems ridiculous about that website? I would have gone with everything.
January 9th, 2012 at 6:26 PM ^
RR could use an experienced QB.
January 9th, 2012 at 6:30 PM ^
... is going to need someone at QB. I doubt Forcier could make the grades. And he'd have to know that RR's heart will always be for the next Pat White.
January 9th, 2012 at 7:30 PM ^
No FBS coach (and maybe not even an FCS coach) will want to go near this kid now. He's toxic. If I were his family, football would be the least of my concerns for him. He needs to pull his life together before he even thinks about playing football again.
January 9th, 2012 at 6:27 PM ^
You have got to be kidding me.
In all seriousness, his instability might be caused by some kind of psychological disorder. Conditions like bipolar disorder, ADD, and depression are often characterized by a chronic inability to stay focused. They also often occur in people who are otherwise extremely talented, charismatic, and intelligent. I really hope he gets the help he needs and can just live a stable, normal life. It seems like football is not in the cards for him. I really feel bad for the kid.
January 9th, 2012 at 6:35 PM ^
This seems like more than just a guy being a flake this seems like serious issues going on. I pray he'll be okay.
January 9th, 2012 at 7:52 PM ^
I hope he can do whatever he needs to do to get his act together.
