A very educated kid. Wants to go somewhere where he will be prepared for med school and someplace with lots of sunshine.
Hopefully one of two is good.
Interestingly, wants to play left tackle too.

Sounds like Stanford will be hard to beat.
December 19th, 2011 at 3:04 PM ^
We have lots of sunshine for 3 months.
December 19th, 2011 at 3:33 PM ^
I may be mistaken but Palo Alto is way north and is not very sunny. The Bay area is cold, dark, and gloomy. Tell that kid it is no different to Wash. Except during the summer of course.
December 19th, 2011 at 3:52 PM ^
My friend who went there seems to think it's Heaven on earth. I have no knowledge myself. For our sake, I hope it rains every day of Garnett's visit.
December 19th, 2011 at 4:01 PM ^
the Bay Area is not "cold, dark, and gloomy," when you're coming from the Seattle area. This should put things in perspective:
Seattle: 58 days of sunshine
Detroit: 75
San Francisco: 160
December 19th, 2011 at 4:21 PM ^
I Have been to the Bay Area a few times and its the farthest thing from dark and gloomy. Heaven on earth is a great example of how nice it is. Its sunny and has mild temperatures almost every day. It does get foggy and windy, but its still beautiful.
December 19th, 2011 at 4:46 PM ^
Somebody tell this kid Ann Arbor is waaaaaaaaay more sunnier than Detroit.
December 19th, 2011 at 5:07 PM ^
Sunny in Phila... I mean Ann Arbor!
December 19th, 2011 at 4:26 PM ^
December 19th, 2011 at 5:11 PM ^
at Palo Alto High. There is some rain in the winter, yes. Dark and gloomy? Not on your life.
December 19th, 2011 at 6:52 PM ^
Stanford is a really nice place by any measure
December 19th, 2011 at 3:00 PM ^
I just got done editing the other post with your details, but you definitely deserve the upvotes and this probably deserves its own thread anyway. Thanks for finding that, GRMichFan.
December 19th, 2011 at 3:04 PM ^
Sunshine? By Odin's ravens, I like not the sound of that...
December 19th, 2011 at 3:46 PM ^
Sam Webb says that while yes we do have a shot, he thinks it will be tough to get Josh to leave the West Coast.
December 19th, 2011 at 3:05 PM ^
This kid is awesome. I think he would fit perfect at Michigan. This podcast just reaffirms my earlier thoughts that Garnett would be the number one guy I wanted to join this class.
December 19th, 2011 at 3:06 PM ^
Thanks for getting this, listening right now and that guy won't shut up on UW. He says no thought the entire interview. Seems like Stanford leads when listening to him. Loves the sunshine and school is important. Football titles are not the primary focus.
December 19th, 2011 at 3:07 PM ^
Fast forward to the 19 minute mark unless you care about why he didn't choose Washington. Smart kid and would be a great way to finish off this class. Doesn't appear to be leaning towards any of the 3 schools at this time.
December 19th, 2011 at 3:08 PM ^
too bad that stanford will slowly fade, now that harbaugh left. beleive it.
December 19th, 2011 at 3:09 PM ^
Need a dominant O-line showing against Va Tech. Also gotta get Magnusan up there to watch the game with him.
Announcing 2 weeks after Banner to allow Banner to get the hype he deserves too, a good guy would love to see him.
December 19th, 2011 at 3:13 PM ^
Or we consider our summer as sunny as what one can imagine?
Get me some Kozan please.
December 19th, 2011 at 3:14 PM ^
but Josh handled it very diplomatically, even though he probably felt like smashing that guy. Great kid. The kind of players you want to represent UM.
December 19th, 2011 at 3:17 PM ^
Hey, the Detroit area has a little more sunshine than Seattle. That's something, right? Right?!?
December 19th, 2011 at 10:06 PM ^
The thing is, some of our really sunny days are in the deep cold of winter.
December 19th, 2011 at 3:28 PM ^
Really want him to pick Michigan but can't blame him if he picks Stanford based on his criteria.
December 19th, 2011 at 3:28 PM ^
is not SoCal. but it definately has more sunshine than AA. if michigan gets this kid, cool. if michigan does not get this kid, then good luck and michigan will probably see him in the rose bowl.
December 19th, 2011 at 3:44 PM ^
Is dreary and cold year round. Lived near there.
December 19th, 2011 at 4:06 PM ^
Personally, I doubt that Stanford is going to stay at a high level for much longer. Once Luck leaves (likely after this season), they will probably drop off quite a bit. I don't see many Rose Bowl games in Stanford's immediate future.
December 19th, 2011 at 3:30 PM ^
I've always liked Garnett, but hearing this interview makes me want him in the winged helmet. Kid is mature beyond his years and would be a great representative to the university.
I don't follow him on Twitter and I didn't know about all the heat he was taking, but it was good to hear Michigan fans were supporting him. That's the type of publicity I want from our fanbase, not that we were bashing a kid.
Garnett is probably the best player we can add to this class right now.
December 19th, 2011 at 3:34 PM ^
This Broadcaster is worse then Mike V about UW. He has got is s*&# together. I think We have a better chance then ND
December 19th, 2011 at 3:37 PM ^
because the sun always shines on the Big House.
December 19th, 2011 at 3:41 PM ^
the interviewer was crazy annoying...
December 19th, 2011 at 3:46 PM ^
Foggy and shitty year round.
December 19th, 2011 at 3:58 PM ^
The sun always shines on the Big House unless you're playing Western Michigan.
December 19th, 2011 at 4:00 PM ^
There were periods of sun inbetween the monsoon. Ruined my best pair of shorts too - ticket bled through on them.. son of a b!
December 19th, 2011 at 5:43 PM ^
where I was thinking how great a cool shower was going to feel early in the game, and then by the end of the game, wishing the truck and heat was closer.
December 19th, 2011 at 4:00 PM ^
Actually, I recall lots of sunshine on that day, as well as storms. Only time I've ever experienced extreme heat warnings and extreme thunderstorm warnings during the same game.
December 19th, 2011 at 4:26 PM ^
Or Northwestern. /shudders at the thought of that game
December 19th, 2011 at 4:46 PM ^
Central San Francisco is frequently murky and damp. But Palo Alto's climate is just about perfect. Dammit.
December 19th, 2011 at 4:56 PM ^
Need to have Stephan Humphries give that young man a call....let him know how well football and a premed program can go together.
December 19th, 2011 at 10:10 PM ^
I thought Stefan graduated with an EE degree? Does anyone remember Kolisar (sp?) He graduated with a 4.0, IIRC, then pissed Bo off by passing on his last year of eligibility to go to law school.
December 20th, 2011 at 1:34 AM ^
Looking terribly ill at ease amid the chaos was one Stefan Humphries, a varsity football player and an engineering major, with an interdisciplinary concentration in biology.
If Garnett doesn't want to short change himself in the classroom....
December 19th, 2011 at 4:57 PM ^
Back when I was an undergrad, I had several friends enrolled in the Inteflex combined undergrad/med school program at Michigan. My understanding is the program no longer exists. That would have been perfect for Garnett.
Regarding California and Palo Alto weather, it is gorgeous. The campus is beautiful, and I love the weather. There is a nice bite to the air in the Winter (think a crisp sunny October day in Ann Arbor) but it never gets too hot. The range is pretty narrow, generally between 50 and 80 year round. All things being equal, I'd gladly live in California, at least for school.
December 19th, 2011 at 5:30 PM ^
Yeah, I believe the only place in MIchigan that has that is MSU's DO school, and that's basically just a guaranteed admission, not a combined program. I'm not even certain that they still do it. That whole deal seems to be going by the wayside.
December 19th, 2011 at 6:05 PM ^
I can understand the sunshine statement, although the summers were fantastic out there. He sounds like a sharp kid. I have a feeling he's going to choose Michigan.
Go Blue!
December 19th, 2011 at 6:52 PM ^
AB UM, MA UC-Berkeley.
So, yeah, Bay Area is better for climate. Standford campus -- matter of taste; rich but pretty bland. Berkeley kills it for gorgeous setting, and it may be not as hot in summer. Much better for frisbee golf.
Anyhow, to a kid from the Northwest, indeed there will be lots of sunshine. Not to mention that Stanford is an awesome University. The only downside to the Bay Area? Congestion, everywhere. Too many cars, too many people. And good luck finding affordable housing in Palo Alto.
Good luck to Garnett & hope he goes Blue despite the message about his preference.

Webb has been consistently saying that it will be tough to get Garnett away from the west coast, and this podcast confirms that. If we get any further OL commits it'll be Diamond or some other late addition to the OL list. If somehow we did manage to get Garnett, it would be a bigger recruiting coup than getting Dunn would have been, IMHO.
