Disappointment of no recruiting buzz
November 16th, 2011 at 4:15 PM ^
And I don't think it's crazy to see/experience quiet times. I'm sure we'll hear some noise in the next two months
November 16th, 2011 at 4:41 PM ^
I'm not.
Someone might pull the trigger in the next couple of weeks, but I won't be surprised if we don't get another recruit until January (Under Armour and Army All American Games) or even signing day. There just aren't that many spots left and, hopefully, those are reserved for our bigger targets..
November 16th, 2011 at 6:08 PM ^
With so many good recruits still out there with significant interest in Michigan and only so few spots left in our class, I am totally fine with no commits in the immediate future. No news is fine news at this point.
November 16th, 2011 at 7:48 PM ^
some Jordan Payton news, however.
November 16th, 2011 at 4:27 PM ^
Patience is a virtue. We are still in play for many top level recruits, a lot of the elite kids ususally decide late (after their season or at the all-american games, some even wait until signing day bc of the added coverage and exposure). There's plenty of buzz on the recrutring trail re: Michigan and it's all very positive.
All signs point to a top 5 class, imo.
November 16th, 2011 at 5:34 PM ^
The way recruiting has gone and the place we are with several top kids..right now no news is good news..until they finish their seasons and we finish ours...im sure around bowl time talk will pick up
November 16th, 2011 at 4:20 PM ^
Bri'onte Dunn
Stefon Diggs
Yuri Wright
Jordan Payton
I think Payton will move his decision date up to beat out Darboh. And of course, Michigan will save room for Diggs.
November 17th, 2011 at 8:46 AM ^
As much as I want him, it's beginning to worry me that we think that he's almost a foregone conclusion. Personally, I've taken him out of my watch list and will keep him there until he decommits from Ohio.
November 16th, 2011 at 4:20 PM ^
From all that has been put out there lately. The way that both diggs and 2013 treadwell speak of Michigan. They seem to be giving off great vibes to gain a commitment. Still a long shot but great to have shaq Thompson coming in December.
November 16th, 2011 at 4:22 PM ^
1) Yuri Wright CB
2) Zach Banner /Joshua Garnett/Jordan Diamond OL Either or
3) Stefon Diggs/ Amara Darboh/Jordan Payton WR
4) Brionte Dunn RB
I'll be happy if we can land four of these guys.
November 16th, 2011 at 4:23 PM ^
They're not going to get Banner, probably won't get Garnett, and the Diamond situation is weird.
Plus they need two WRs.
November 16th, 2011 at 4:27 PM ^
Out of those three, I think our best shot is with Garnett. If the coaches really want to get another OL late in the process, I can see Gibbs getting an offer.
November 16th, 2011 at 5:59 PM ^
I don't see Gibbs getting an offer. IIRC his parents both went to Michigan and he is more than willing to pay his own way to be there.
November 16th, 2011 at 6:20 PM ^
Yeah, they could always give him preferred walk-on status and then let him earn a scholarship when he gets there. He'd be great to have in Ann Arbor as a walk-on (and would be a nice finish to this OL class).
November 16th, 2011 at 6:45 PM ^
If that's the case, then he's a perfect preferred walk-on candidate. Since both his parents are UM grads, they probably would want him at a good academic school, and it looks like the only schools offering him scholarships so far are MAC schools. The only way he wouldn't want to come here is if a school like a Duke or Northwestern offered him a scholarship, then I think he'd take it, or if he was getting Ivy League interest, that was he could get a great education and probably a lot more PT.
That said, he's a big, strong kid who's rated around where Huyge was, so he could certainly end up being a quality player for us, and we need all the OL depth we can get.
November 16th, 2011 at 5:05 PM ^
Can you expand a bit on why the Diamond situation is weird? I've been a bit out of the loop. Last I remember hearing were positive things before the season started.
November 16th, 2011 at 5:16 PM ^
The coaches feel like they need another OLineman or they wouldn't continue to offer them this late in the game like they have recently, and since we got our last OLine commitment from Kalis we've had further OLine attrition when Tony Posada and Christian Pace left. The coaches have even stocked up on preferred walkons during the process. Next year we'll have no scholarship backups at tackle if the 2012 Oline class redshirts like they should, (considering both Lewan and Long redshirted) and our entire interior is set to graduate the year after and be replaced by kids who have yet to dress or sign LOIs. The 2012 class is one of the best we've ever taken, but it needs to be, I think they'd like to take another.
November 16th, 2011 at 6:16 PM ^
There was talk of A.J williams to takle and he actually is listed on scouts? as a tackle. I think we're done taking o linemen for the most part. 2 WR's 1 DE and last spot going to Dunn, wright or whoever wants it.
November 16th, 2011 at 6:26 PM ^
We're not taking another Defensive End.
November 16th, 2011 at 9:56 PM ^
need to get 2 WRS and the other spots are up for grabs. A.J will be a tackle before it is all said and done. Brown is now playing tight end,so i don't see us going after another tight end.
November 16th, 2011 at 5:33 PM ^
on WN, we are very much in it for Diamond and any "cooling" Michigan on Michigan's part was a compete miscommunication that has been cleared up.
November 16th, 2011 at 4:26 PM ^
What about Madaris?
November 16th, 2011 at 5:28 PM ^
He seems to be really waiting for that ohio offer.
November 16th, 2011 at 6:10 PM ^
coaches want 2 WR and 1 more DE so thats 3 spots.
November 16th, 2011 at 6:51 PM ^
Where are you getting this DE thing?
November 16th, 2011 at 4:21 PM ^
Dunn, Wright, Darboh, Payton/Diggs/Madaris (though they could easily miss on all 3 of those guys). Wright and Darboh haven't visited, Dunn has the OSU issue, and Payton has slowed the process down. With those guys, it's probably a borderline top 5 class.
On field success has an impact on the next class, not the current class.
November 16th, 2011 at 4:22 PM ^
Why do you expect Brionte Dunn to have postive vibes pubicly after what happened to Kalis?
We will have a top 10 class for sure, I'm not positive about top 5. It all depends on how we close.
With all the talks about AJ Williams becoming an OL, I'm not sure where the coaches stand about getting another OL. It seems that we are still recruiting that position based on Garnett's visit for the OSU game.
I'm curious about how we finish at WR. I'm pretty sure we get Darboh after his visit. I'm just sure about the second option. A month ago I would have said Payton, but now I'm not sure where we stand. It could be anyone one of Payton, Diggs, Chesson or even Powe.
November 16th, 2011 at 4:31 PM ^
is suppose to be here this weekend.
November 16th, 2011 at 4:35 PM ^
No he isn't. He pushed it back to the ohio week.
November 16th, 2011 at 4:31 PM ^
we're going to have to beat tsio. No way around it.
November 16th, 2011 at 5:20 PM ^
but then again it doesn't seem to matter how many times we beat ND, they still pull top classes and compete with us for the same recruits.
November 17th, 2011 at 9:56 AM ^
Wins and losses during visits don't actually matter that much. Kid wants to go to tSIO but doesn't want to go to a school with a bowl ban/coaching turmoil, so he's waiting as long as he can to see how their situation turns out.
November 16th, 2011 at 4:35 PM ^
Shaq Thompson, Bri'onte Dunn, Stefon Diggs, Amara Darboh
My probably inaccurate guess is as good as anyone's. I think Darboh will commit after his visit which means Payton loses his spot. Thompson seems serious about Michigan. How could he not commit knowing he could play for ed reed's ex-coach? I think WIlliams is going to fill the void of the 6th olineman. He may even be the future starting LT out of all these guys.
November 16th, 2011 at 4:36 PM ^
my #1 recruit right now is stefon diggs, kids film is unbelievable. I think Diggs is possible the best player in the class.
November 16th, 2011 at 4:36 PM ^
Dunn, and Darboh. The triple Ds.
November 16th, 2011 at 4:39 PM ^
If I had to pick 4 that would be mine as well.
November 16th, 2011 at 4:37 PM ^
No one has decommitted yet, either. The past few years, we had high-profile decommits by this time in the season (Dee Hart, Shavodrick Beaver, Kevin Newsome, Bryce McNeal). Not the case this year. *fingers crossed*
November 16th, 2011 at 6:23 PM ^
Interestingly, none of those guys have really done anything of note (obviously it is too early to tell with Hart but their are rumors of "issues" for him):
Beaver -- sat on bench at Tulsa and transferred to Midwestern State (TX).
Newsome -- sat on bench at PSU and is....???? Does anybody know where he is at? I can remember when PSU fans were really excited about their stable of QBs: Newsome, Bolden and Jones (is Jones still at PSU?), that hasn't worked out quite like they had hoped.
McNeal -- has played for Clemson but not done anything special and is now in the shadow of Sammy Watkins.
Hart -- torn ACL (will he recover from it?) and rumors of off-the-field "issues"
November 16th, 2011 at 6:31 PM ^
Transferred also.
November 16th, 2011 at 9:15 PM ^
Bryce McNeal transferred also

November 16th, 2011 at 4:39 PM ^
Darboh and Wright.
Diggs and Dunn will be a challenge, but if we at least get one of those (plus Darboh and Wright) then this class will finish in the top 5.
This is usually a dead time in recruiting. Everything will start heating up in December.
November 16th, 2011 at 4:40 PM ^
Surprising...it couldn't have continued at that pace, and all these guys have their senior seasons. Since its winding down things will probably get interesting soon.
I think we will have a top 5 class..let's say.. #3.. Yeah, #3.
November 16th, 2011 at 5:15 PM ^
When you put it that way... #3 makes sense
November 16th, 2011 at 4:42 PM ^
No. I'm not surprised at all.
Early excitement means there's less excitement to come later.
No excitement early means there's lots of excitement to come later.
We had most of our fun very early this year, at least compared to the last several recruiting classes. Now we just ride it out.
November 16th, 2011 at 4:47 PM ^
At the names being mentioned! should be fun seeing how it all plays out.
November 17th, 2011 at 12:53 AM ^
Exactly. Early success=late-in-the-season slowing of recruitment, but we've got some big names on deck that we can focus on becuase we've got so many other names locked up. I'm feeling a very strong finish to this season's class.
It's kinda slow meow, but considering our situation, this is a fine problem to have.
November 16th, 2011 at 4:44 PM ^
and 4 to go is a good recruiting problem to have. We should be more focused on the CornNation and keeping the Red out of Michigan Stadium the next two weeks. Wins will solve all of our recruiting issues.
November 16th, 2011 at 4:48 PM ^
As long as we're satisfied with what's coming and we don't get hit with shocking decommits as in recent years, I am OK with the relative silence on this front.
November 16th, 2011 at 4:51 PM ^
I'd really like to land Diggs, Brionte, Yuri and Garnett.
On another note, I heard an interview saying Drake Johnson ran a 4.35 40 and he plans on arriving this fall at 220lb. He might end up being much better than people think.
November 16th, 2011 at 5:11 PM ^
Only faster.
