WTF buckeye fans??
Are you kidding me "Eleven Warriors"??
These days, Jim Tressel's name is usually reserved for cheap punch-lines writers and enemies of The State to pop like fine wine they've storing for the last decade as Tressel kicked everybody's ass up and down the field in the classiest way a man can go about kicking somebody's ass up and down a field of grass. Sure, Florida and LSU caught us slipping, but under the steady hand of the Vest, OSU enjoyed a decade of prosperity which would satisfy most rational college sports fans.
I'm sure nobody needs a history lesson on the facts surrounding Jim Tressel's unexpected "retirement" from Ohio State. Since his downfall, the author of The Winner's Manual has been called (among other things) a fraud, a liar, hypocrite, and a cheat. It's as if all of the charity and good works of his life (and there were many) were incinerated the second he clicked "send" on his email. I assume every writer who harvested this low-hanging, click-generating fruit have been virtuous through the entire course of their life, so I'll more than allow these gentlemen to cast their stones first.
Self-righteousness aside, I wasn't surprised by the national glee conjured by Tressel's downfall. Nor was I surprised by Tressel performing seppuku on himself or by the manner which he was thrown under the bus by Ohio State. What I am surprised by though, is the manner in which Gene Smith is throwing a twenty-two year old kid under the bus in order to save his job.

And I feel like Captain Hindsight should have posted this comment.

Am I missing something?
October 10th, 2011 at 5:40 PM ^
but I think he has just stumbled upon the Eleven Warriors site and is shocked by the name and that they have the stones to have adopted that name. I think this is likely something that didn't need posting, but I may be wrong.

Most Buckeye fans would love the natural laws to be suspended in their favor so they can experience a miraculous return to a world where no cheating ever took place, all football players were eligible, and athletes didn't steal equipment for resale, and take cash payments for no services provide - all the while nobody anywhere wise to Tressel's convenient ignorance. Tthankfully that's not the way the world works. Shit, Arkansas took a big loss against a bunch of players Tressel absolutely knew were ineligible.

Pryor? Posey? I'm lost.

Yes. Apparently they both fit neatly under a Greyhound.

"Nor was I surprised by Tressel performing seppuku on himself or by the manner which he was thrown under the bus by Ohio State." - from the OP
Performing seppuku on others is generally called "murder".

I detest silly names for rivals and the things they hold dear. Despite that, I have never been able to read "Eleven Warriors" without thinking "Elven Warriors", and that was before the LOTR movies which did not help things. I am so ashamed.
October 10th, 2011 at 5:54 PM ^
Oh yes sorry, JT's only offense was clicking send on one email....damn if he could only have that one back all would be well in Ohio
October 10th, 2011 at 8:59 PM ^
it had nothing to do with lies on top of lies on top of lies to the NCAA, his employer, his players, his fans, his friends, his family, etc., nothing at all.
Sheesh.

Dude are you copying something that was written on 11 Warriors? Because I don't believe it's apparent to everyone reading the thread, based on the negativity. Perhaps you should use some parenthesis or something.
October 10th, 2011 at 7:19 PM ^
Nevermind.
October 10th, 2011 at 7:15 PM ^
My bad.

I am going to ignore the redundancy, and blaze forward anyway, sort of like it seems the OP did. What's your point, are you just having this revelation? Not in december, or march, or may, or august?
October 10th, 2011 at 7:10 PM ^
Shifty, they are. I am beginning to understand why he confuses offenses!

"Charity and good works" incinerated by one mistake? Is this guy talking about Jim Tressel or Jim Jones?
October 10th, 2011 at 7:51 PM ^
It's as if all of the charity and good works of his life (and there were many) were incinerated the second he clicked "send" on his email.
Yes, this is exactly what happened.
Do these asshats wonder why ESPN is fighting at the god damned supreme court level in Ohio to have those emails released? It's pretty obvious to everyone not marking out for tSIO.

October 10th, 2011 at 9:48 PM ^
didn't outrecruit other schools, he outbid them. To me, that is why his "legacy" on the field is forever tainted, and I don't respect him as a coach.
Jim Tressel is a fraud. Period. Ponder that. Chew on it. Swish it around a little bit.
If other schools could offer recruits enticements to rival THE Tattoo U I wonder how many top classes OSU would have been able to reel in over Tressel's tenure? How would OSU have fared on the field with recruiting classes like their 2012 one?
Clarett, Pryor, rigging lotteries against kids from blue-collar families, car dealerships, tattoo parlors, etc. etc. Tressel cheated, buddy, and you can post indignantly all you want, but the national consensus on Tressel is pretty clear, and for good reason. He was smart enough to create some plausible deniability, but that's about where his caution and regard for the rules ended.
He was fired because of what the NCAA could prove (lying on a disclosure form), but his true character can be seen in the actions of the kids he recruited and coached, the steady stream of violations and rule-breaking, etc.
Jim. Tressel. Created. A. Program. That. Bought. Recruits.
Fraud.
