I like to think of it as a fun little ride, where you may not know where you're going, but you know you're gonna like it when you get there...

On a serious note, the bottom left corner supplies you with a website address to preview the link you are about to click.  I'm not being trying to be a jerk about it, just wanted to let you know that in case you didn't already come to that conclusion.

On a side note, I love how an undiscussed, fairly relevant, and well intentioned topic is buried by a stupid meta argument.  I guess I have been around the block enough times around here to know that such is life at MGoBlog...

In any case, I digress to the peanut gallery.  The link is now much more informative.

Okay, I deduced that the OP is like THE_KNOWLEDGE and foresees the future.

Seriously?  No amount of deductive reasoning is going to get me from "Looks like we're going to the Insight Bowl" to an article about Rivals' bowl predictions.  I didn't even know they did that this early in the year.  Completely idiotic.  Occam's Razor tells me it's much more likely OP is talking out his ass.

Is there anything more useless and guarenteed to be wrong than bowl projections before the season has even started?   Maybe the "last four out" of the bracketology done before the season starts but it's close.

Actually that's a good question.  What IS more absolutely, 100% assured to be wrong than these?

Well, for many of the bowls, predicting them is no different than predicting order of conference finish.

In the Big Ten for example, the conference champ goes to the Rose, predicting a second BCS bowl team seems reasonable. Would end up in the Fiesta, Sugar, or Orange but which one is kind of a toss up. After than, the BIG bowls go in order of conference finish for the most part, with bowl selection committees having some power.

I'm not saying that pre-season bowl pick are useful in any way. I'm just saying that they are not THAT different from simply selecting the conference pecking order.

if your memory works like my memory, you might recall that last year even after our conference finish had been determined our bowl site had not been determined.  I believe that there was ambiguity about location and opponent.

Additionally, after the bowls I believe that I recall wishing that we had played any of our other possible opponents in any other possible location.

Because that might have made a difference.

But most likely not.

I'm not surprised Rivals went with a safe pick for Michigan. Not too high, not too low.

OT: For some reason whenever I play NCAA 12, it seems like Michigan always faces Missouri in the Insight Bowl. It happened two years in a row!

They have 2/3rds of our conference pencilled in for a bowl game.  Have we ever had 8 teams in a bowl?  Granted, Nebraska.

Year Net Punting Punt Return Kickoff Return
2008 5 (39.34) 64 (8.62) 56 (21.44)
2009 3 (40.93)  62 (8.67) 23 (23.80)
2010 69 (36.07)  67 (7.43)  68 (21.44)

2008 10-15
2009 11-15
2010 4-14

I didn't have rankings for field goals, but it seems like the first two years were, 2008=eh, 2009=pretty alright and 2010=derp.

If I remember correctly, SI or some other reputable sports news institute had UM slotted to play Mizzou in the Insight Bowl last year. The more things change, the more they stay the same.

I'm torn...I want us to destroy and go to a great bowl, but going to the Insight bowl would work out perfectly as my girlfriend lives in Chandler.

Boo.
