michigan the lone double away team in the B1G/ACC challenge
http://www.bigten.org/blog/2011/04/mbb-big-ten-announces-home-and-away-…
pretty freaking annoying. i hope that with our murderer's row schedule we at least get an easy opponent.
Them cornhuskers probably stole our home slot.
They are getting on my nerves already.
No, it's the Gophers. They're going to get a home game two years in a row. I have no idea why.
RAGE!
And Minnesota too. What a waste, aren't they due to be bad next year?
They were pretty horrendous the back half of this year.
Well right but that was because they lost their point guard(s). I thought they had a bunch of seniors this year though so next year they're losing a ton.
Hoffarber and Nolen are the only seniors on their roster, after the '11-12 season there will be mass attrition with Mbakwe, Iverson(Not that iverson) and Sampson(Not that Sampson) graduating.
Is already gone.
That road win will help our tournament seeding.
I'm glad someone sees the silver lining in this.
Nebraska (when its history in that sport is considered) has significantly increased the Big Ten's degree of difficulty in that event. We may end up looking at these last two years as a wonderful exception to the ACC's dominance.
How do you figure?
The ACC always left out its worst team
Where did you get that information? As far as I can see, there was some sort of rotation they had for the left-out team. It sure didn't appear that they got together and said (e.g.) "VTech sucks this year; let's leave them home!"
Miami finished last in 09-10 and didn't play last year.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ACC_%E2%80%93_Big_Ten_Challenge
Look at the results from each year:
"Miami did not play due to their last place finish in the ACC during the 2009–2010 season"
"Georgia Tech did not play due to their last place finish in the ACC during the 2008–2009 season"
"North Carolina State did not play due to their last place finish in the ACC during the 2007–2008 season"
You were saying?
Jasper stands corrected. I can't remember where I got my information, but I checked the standings for the past several years just now and, yeah, they always left out the worst team.
I still think Nebraska will drag down the average quality of basketball in the conference, but it won't be as bad as I thought.
No, the last-place team from the previous year was always left out.
Nebraska is one of only three "BCS" schools to have never won an NCAA Tournament game (the others are Northwestern and South Florida). Their very first tourney trip was in 1986 and they have only gone to the tournament 6 times.
So, they've averaged one tourney trip every four years since then. That's not that all that bad.
...away games for Indiana as well.
The more opportunities to add wins in high-degree-of-difficulty games, the better. I don't think the NCAA committee holds it against you for losing some of those games, so you might as well have a number of opportunities to win them.
Almost everything bad that happens is generally his fault.
So If we play duke, it's gonna be away. Arghhhhhh!!
Michigan will play Duke in ACC/Big Ten challenge. OSU seems the likely opponent. Michigan could possibily play against UNC. Looks like OSU and Michigan will be considered to be top two teams in the Big 10. Duke and UNC is the same.
has Wisco in front of UM, but its pretty close. might take a while for my ears to get used to hearing that kind of talk...
i know that the truth it different, but i am not sure that MSU with Izzo would not be a bigger national TV draw, which, as you know, is the point.
Don't they slot it based on a team's finish in its conference from the previous year so that the 2010 first place Big Ten team places the 2010 first place ACC team, etc. ? I can't remember.
EDIT: I'm now 90% sure that my theory is incorrect.
They try to match up teams roughly by strength, but TV is what really drives the matchups.
Some has Michigan as the best Big 10 team, some has Michigan as the 2nd best Big 10 team, and some has them as 3rd best. It all depends but the consensus seems to be that Michigan is #2 in Big 10 for next season so that would squarely put them with Duke/UNC terrority. Michigan will probably play against Duke in Maui Invitiational so the TV executives would want Michigan/UNC game.
That's JMO.
Nebraska has a basketball team?
they play Nebrasketball.
You, sir, are one clever individual.
Can you say Duke rematch? Book it. I, for one, love it. Let's go to Cameron and pillage their homes and rip out their hearts!
There is a chance we'll play Duke in Maui so I doubt we'd see that matchup in the ACC/B10 challenge.
I'm more curious to know if Duke will actually go on the road, something they've only done a couple of times in the history of this series (despite the fact that each school is supposed to alternate home and away). Why does the Big Ten put up with that?
Duke has played in the ACC/Big Ten 12 times. They've played 4 true home games, 4 true road games, 2 neutral games in Greensboro, and 2 neutral games in Chicago.
It probably just feels like they're always at home since they always win.

Wiki'd. Weird - I was pretty sure that was the case.
road win @ duke would be enough for me
A road game would help boost our SOS, which is good.
