OT: Mallett gets SLAMMED
While all the top QBs in this class get some harsh assessement heaped upon them, Mallett gets brutally slammed.

It said that he has some concerning "habits" and that his poise in the pocket needs refining.
However, it also basically said that he has the best arm of the four. I would not be surprised to see him as the first QB drafted.
Ummm...did you read the part where the general manager said that he would "never" take him?
Did you even read the article?
I would be VERY surprised if Mallett was the first QB taken. Because the Panthers are taking a QB at 1, and the Bills are taking a QB at 3, and neither will be taking Mallett.
i highly doubt carolina will draft a QB. Didnt they JUST draft Clausen?
..or the part where they compare him to Jeff George and conclude he isn't as athletic as J.G. ?
>> compare him to Jeff George
Ouch! That's probably the most damning thing they could say, except maybe comparing him to Ryan Leaf....
Not really. I think people underestimate Jeff George's abilities because he failed to live up to his billing, but he was a better NFL quarterback than Ryan Leaf. If Jeff George had been picked in the 2nd or 3rd round, people would say, "Eh, yeah, that was an okay pick. Whatever." If Ryan Leaf were picked in the 2nd or 3rd round, people would still say, "Jeez, that guy sucked."
Who wasn't a better qb then Ryan Leaf? He was one of the biggest busts of all time.
Okay, but if you have to resort to "better than Ryan Leaf" to defend the guy, doesn't that say a lot about him? Leaf was one of the biggest busts of all time. Isn't that setting the bar pretty low?
There are A LOT of quarterbacks who are/have been better than Ryan Leaf. The only reason Leaf was such a huge bust is because he was such a high pick. If Mallett drops lower, then the term "bust" doesn't really factor into the equation. And if he matures at some point, rather than being a "bust", he could be an absolute steal.
Why are you using past tense for George's career?
http://blogs.suntimes.com/bears/2010/08/what_about_jeff_george.html
Jeff George had a few really good seasons, particularly 1995 in Atlanta and 1997 in Oakland.
Ryan Leaf was a complete joke, there's amost no comparison.
Maybe this seems like roses and gumdrops to you, but seemed like a slam to me:
“I would never take him. Never. He’s irresponsible, selfish and not a leader,” the AFC GM said. “I don’t care how great he throws it – and he throws it great – but there’s no way.”
When his girlfriend's housemate would come on and talk about what a jerk he was? I guess if you treat your girlfriend and her friends like crap, it's not likely you'll treat your team mates much better.
That's pretty much my assessment, too. If I'm an NFL team, I'm not going to take him...with a high draft pick. I might pick him in the fourth round or later. He's not going to hang around that long because some team is going to draft him for his ability to throw the ball, but IF he were to still be on the board late in the draft, he would be worth the gamble. If you have to cut him because of his attitude/leadership, then it's not much of a hit monetarily and you didn't waste a high pick where you're likely to get some real talent.
Wouldn't you say he has the biggest upside but the highest probability of failing? That's what I would say.
If brain transplants were possible, yeah.
The boy is not the brightest bulb on the tree -- I do not see him excelling in the NFL. But then again, Rapelisberger has done well, and he ain't too clever either.
about spring ball wrestling drills.
Particularly with the all caps.
don't.
Even if Lloyd didn't retire he was gone the next year. Players didn't respect him and he always thought he was bigger than the team. Someone will take him in the 6th round and he could be an opening day starter somewhere if he ever pulls it all together.
Ryan Leaf immediately comes to mind.
Is the poster child for a player that should have returned...he is the opposite of Andrew Luck. One more year would have solidified his position. I would not be surprised if he dropped out of the first round.
Remember when Aaron Rodgers plummeted in the draft because his arm wasn't strong enough? Teams who draft because of 'OMG arm strength!' are moronic, and probably don't have a staff like New England's or Green Bay's who can properly develop a QB.
Rodgers was the 26th pick IIRC, and I don't see any first round pick as someone who "plummeted."
But I agree on the arm strength issue. See also: Russell, Jamarcus.
He was projected by many to go #1 overall, and he fell to 26th, that's a plummet, especially when you consider the money involved.
Than I ever will. If being slammed still gets me 40-50M, I will take it.
very insightful
grass is green, water is wet, etc.
unlike yours which seemed to be just an attack.
umm, it doesn't "seem" to be just an attack
it's just an attack
"I'll take 50M in trade for people talking bad about me."
"No way, dude! Really!?!?!?!"
again: grass is green, water is wet, etc.
more cbus, than wolverine
unlike yours which seemed to be just an attack.
"umm, it doesn't "seem" to be just an attack
it's just an attack"
you said it was an attack.
u mad
and your sarcasm detector is beyond repair
That's how I beat Shaq
By the way, I feel like it's going to be a pretty weak NFL Draft this year. Maybe it's just me, but I don't see a lot of future stars coming out of college this year. There are a few good players (Patrick Peterson, Julio Jones, etc.), but if I were a GM in the second half of the 1st round, I would be trying to trade down. I would not want to pay first round money to the guys that will be there around #20 or later.
This is exactly why there needs to be a rookie salary cap. These guys are unproven and step into the league with contracts they will never live up to. Also the guy in this thread that thinks Mallet will make 40-50 million is out of his mind. He will be lucky to go in the 2nd round and even then that is a reach in my opinion.
If you were any further from the truth, you would be Millen's right hand man. This draft is supposed to be very deep on "1st round talent".
That's fine. I just don't see it. A lot of the top "talent" has big question marks.
I think maybe it's just you.
Still smarting from yesterday, huh?
I will be surprised if he slips past the middle of the 2nd round. I don't disagree with any of the negative analysis, some team won't be able to pass on "the arm of god" early in the 2nd or late in the 1st round.
I do wonder what a coach like Hoke could have done with him at Michigan? Oh well I guess we will never know.
Poor fellow ... his fragile psyche was obviously damaged by a few days of exposure to an anti-Family-Values environment, and then that vulgar hillbilly coach ran him out of town. It's almost like the Simpsons flashback when Barney remembers his first drink.
^ I think you forgot your sarcasm font...
Guilty as charged ...
