It's all good. I'm with you. Earlier this year I was kind of excited for football to come back so we could rinse the taste of loserdom out of or mouths. Then a couple weeks ago after basketball, I didn't care one way or the other. Now I'm actively against starting our season. I literally don't want to watch it.

If memory serves, this latest rumor was at least the 3rd (or 4th) rumor he wasn't coming to A2, right?

1. The admissions issues so that he couldn't early enroll.
2. Rumors that due to that he was wavering...
3. New rumors he was gone after Giles left...
4. Newest rumors this week...

Best for him to go elsewhere where he wants to be.

At this point, Michigan fans have to decide if they will be Michigan fans OR if they will be fans of an elite CFB factory program. Those two things will likely never co-exist in Ann Arbor.

The changes in the post-BCS era made it clear that to be elite, you must run the program like Bama. Clemson made those changes, OSU made those changes, OU made those changes. LSU/Georgia have made those changes.

Essentially it is those 3-4 programs and anyone who is ready to do what it takes. Texas likely will be there soon with Sarkisian on board now. Occasionally an ND or Oregon will jump up there but it will always be Bama/Clemson/OSU and whatever other SEC team is hot that season. That's our Final 4 for the foreseeable future.

I doubt Harbaugh and Manuel are ready to make those choices/changes and it might even be beyond their control or beyond their desire to change how the university handles student-athletes.

We can get away with "doing things right" in basketball because of smaller rosters. Impossible to do that in football these days.

Only not possible due to boomer thinking ie thinking paying players is inherently immoral, which makes up most of the board/leadership at UM. Breaking the rules and inherently bad are two different things.

Any variation of "bUt tHeY gEt A fReE eDuCaTiOn" shows an absolute lack of awareness on what these kids bring to the table in terms of revenue and value for the school.

And miss me with the UM can't be a football factory and be an academic institution at the same time. More outdated boomer thinking. So paying players would result in Ross rankings and job placements to tank? Google and Apple are suddenly going to stop hiring CS kids because we pay football players? This is some kind of weird cope I read a lot, that makes no sense.

Because of the academic standards at Michigan and no sign of changing, this program will remain at the level of Wisconsin, Northwestern, Iowa and maybe Penn State.

As we say in running, there's the lead pack and the chase pack so Michigan is clearly in the chase pack.

This!! Say what you want about admissions but I think this whole thing cost Dudek his job. It’s one thing to offer it’s another thing to offer, take a commit, and then make sure kid can get in academically. That’s an organization thing

Unclear what your intent is here...are you saying it was Worthy's "fault"?

By all accounts, his grades and test scores were above the minimums required for early entry.  He checked all the boxes including graduating early.

Admissions denied him early entry anyways.

What part is in his control?

I mean, he was admitted, correct?  Like, his name is in the school's online directory, which I'll admit isn't gospel but sure seems to point to him at least getting past whatever initial admissions hurdle existed.

I don't expect it to come out (and I sort of hope it doesn't because it's private to him), but this feels like a situation that was doomed from the start and blame falls on multiple parties.

Can't say that we didn't see it coming after the rumors last night.  It sucks, but I hope he's happy wherever he ends up.  Maybe Washington, with Giles Jackson?  Maybe somewhere else?  Who cares...

I won't chalk this one up to the coaches because of the problems that UM created regarding his early enrollment.  But to get past admissions issues, to deal with that stuff and still want to play for UM, the coaches have to show some improvement.  The usage of WR's has been, ahem, lackluster for several years.  At some point, you just have to prove that you can competently run a modern offense.

This one is on admissions. The kid busted his ass to graduate early and he was denied entry at the last second. I'm sure that left a bad taste in his mouth. He should be practicing with his team and attending classes right now.

While wrong for so many reasons,  RichRod was right about the administration and getting kids to play at Michigan.

Feel sorry for Worthy and best of luck in the future

I like Worthy's film.  A lot.   Seems like a no-brainer to get our best recruiter on him ASAP.  Big-time decommits like this so late in the cycle don't happen often, so let's snap him up.   I'll bet UM admissions will do everything they can to get him on campus as quickly as possible.

I don’t blame the admin office or the coaches. I blame the disgruntled wide receiver that just left Michigan because he was losing his spot on the depth chart. But we will see Mr. Jackson next season. Somebody clearly was bad mouthing the coaching staff and was in his ear about it. You don’t just pick a whole university to play football at because of a friend.

In the current college football landscape, I have zero problems with Giles Jackson transferring. We generally only play one slot receiver at a time and he would have to compete with Bell, Sainristil, and Henning for those snaps. It's annoying that he's transferring to an opponent who will have our playbook, but these kids should do what is best for them.

Perhaps Jackson had something to do with it...and also PERHAPS the Admissions office telling him: Do (a), (b), and (c) in order to obtain early entry into UM.

He does (a), (b), and (c) and is still denied entry.

Guessing getting fucked by the administration is a bigger reason for his departure than his friend leaving - although Jackson leaving could be the final straw in leaving the cluster fuck that is UM Football/Admissions.

Jackson can do whatever he wants, and I don't blame him for looking elsewhere.  If he bad-mouthed the program on the way out so be it; he's entitled to do whatever he wants.  But if Worthy is leaving because a friend left (and by all accounts Worthy isn't going to Washington so whatever bond they had must not be inseparable), then it probably wasn't ever going to work out here.

I was honestly a bit surprised they closed on Worthy this year anyway; he seemed to really like Sark at Alabama and it makes sense that perhaps the timing was off with him going to Texas.

Odd.  He can't enroll early anywhere now, so what's the point?  If this move is simple spite for not being granted early admission, then.... whatever, I guess.  Good luck to ya, kid.  Don't let that anger burn you up.

If this is truly something "beyond his control" then it could be a different flavor of admissions issue.

More evidence that we need to go to the dark side of recruiting.  Texas is going to get Worthy due to them clearly recruiting him while he was signed with Michigan.  We will never win big if we can get to the dark side of recruiting.

Would love for it to happen. Because fuck this program in its current state.

Fire Harbaugh and his band of losers after the season. Bring in a coach who excites people (and actually still has something left in the tank unlike catatonic Harbaugh). Then combine that with “enhanced” recruiting practices.

But Oh noz, the kids are getting money under the table!

I am amazed that Michigan allows this to happen with the admissions department to the football program.  The transfer portal is likely almost useless, having kids that they are not admitting for what??? How & why would players want to go through the trouble of transferring in, etc.

If he is going to UT - it is not like the academic standards there are that much vastly different.  You can point to flaws in many things, but this seems like absolutely unneeded challenges to work through.

This feels a lot like how inept the Lions are at managing to have an actual plan to win.

The way I read it, he just didn't graduate from high school.  We have the same admissions for college football players as every other school save for Duke, Stanford, and Northwestern at the Power 5 level.  Doubt if were levying some extra requirements on kids who happen to want to enroll early, what would be the point?

This is why I dont follow recruiting or get to excited about it EVER..until they actually arrive and play I just cant get excited..and I certainly dont want someone who doesnt LOVE Michigan or want to play for Michigan

Obviously the kid needs to do what’s best for him, his family, and his future but he was one of the most vocal pro Michigan recruits on Twitter I’ve ever seen. I know there was speculation he might flip to Bama in the 11th hour but I didn’t see this coming.

Something people are forgetting in the “admissions vs coaches vs player” fault argument is what actually happens in a recruitment and the responsibility of each party.

I will give a recent example that happened at another school with high academic standards this same recruiting class.
When coaches recruit kids their Junior year they will explain to them what they need to do for admissions. The coaches or recruiting director will monitor the recruits profess and ensure everything goes smoothly. A recruit from another school who graduated early & wanted to enroll early met all the criteria but the admissions wasn’t satisfied with a testing score. The coaches were planning on this being a possible issue & already had him preparing & scheduling a retake over the winter break. He did, scored higher & was allowed to early enroll. So the staff was prepared, prepped him & guided him to success with admissions.

Maybe in Worthy’s case the recruiting director or staff didn’t do a good job working with the kid & admissions to ensure he was eligible to EE. The recruit might have done what he thought was enough, but was not properly guided by the UM staff. There are staff at every program who lead recruits through the process.
