The guy will get pummeled and likely have ugly stats. O has no playmakers other than him and the D will be porous. Every departure makes it worse. Opponents will stack the box and either run blitz or pass blitz much of the time. For a RB, it's not putting him in a good draft position. He could pull a "Fournette season" and just train for the draft instead of risk injury.

Someone will surely do the humane thing and remind them of how many people - at minimum - you should have to field a football team, yes? I mean, it has to end somewhere with someone left to play, even if the longsnapper has to do spot QB duty, they need at least a few people or that Bowling Green game ends up being the first of 12 trap games.

Have you ever been to College Station, Texas? It's the opposite of Oregon. Just a dusty, broiling parking lot. Depressing as hell.

MSU is like one of those small town high schools with a woefully small team. Any D1 7 on 7 leagues they can play in for a few years?

Why don't they rip off the damn band-aid and just announce everyone they are dismissing. It can't help their recruiting to be in the news day after day with all of this bad news. Having said that, I appreciate all of the daily entertainment.

I just looked at their schedule. They're staring 4-8 directly in the face, maybe 3-9. I see 3 wins, with a possible 4th between BG, WMU, Indiana and Rutgers. 1-7 or 2-6 in conference play.

If all this attrition wasn't painful enough, the real pain will be the second half of the season, after the usual course of injuries further depletes them, and at some positions they go from 2nd-stringers to 3rd stringers. A road trip to OSU is their 10th game of the year... That could be a destruction of epic proportions.

the amount of times Dantonio used the phrase "things of that nature" in the presser was more than three.  (I'm assuming it's less than nine, though.)

(seriously who TALKS like that?)

I'm always leery that I'm biased, because I always tend to think the risk is to the downside for our opponents and upside for Michigan.  But...

The risk is to the downside for Sparty this year.  Starters at 4 of the 5 OL positions are questionable.  Have an injury and whoah.  DE is OK if Bowers and Cooper return.  If they don't or there is an injury whoah.  LB depth looks shaky.  Who's going to play CB and safety?  Injury at either spot and whoah.  WR is whoah.  TE is probably whoah but not even enough data to whoah.

But the biggest downside risk may be QB.  Lewerke is the one bright spot where their fans are pinning their upside hopes (besides Scott and the RBs, but those are a known quantity).  Watch their spring game and he made some terrible throws.  His receivers are new or not that good or both.  His OL is going to get him hit plenty and the run game won't be consistent enough to take the pressure off.  His stats weren't that impressive last year and very limited.  Yes he looks like he has composure.  He's going to need it.  If they develop a QB question early in the year... whoah.

With everyone MSU has lost over the last few months, they're almost down a full recruiting class' worth of players. A lot of freshmen and walk ons are going to be relied on this year.

I never want to doubt Dantonio too much, as he is the epitome of doing more with less, but I'd be surprised if they make it to bowl eligibility this year.

"Pride goeth before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall."   --- so says every English translation of the Bible, this one is from the King James version

Pride does not come before a fall....that's nonsense.
