[Title edited]: Dennis Dodd (lists possible penalties which) Big Ten (might) threaten, (up to and including) TV Ban and withholding of revenue

This to me is cause for departure from the conference if they seriously try to do this. Messing with the money means nuclear option is viable.

[edit @10:10 pm: the end result is a bit unwieldy, but in an attempt to clarify the OP's original thread title, I simply edited in everything that you see in parentheses. -rob f]

Because it is literally the range of penalties listed in the Big 10 policy manual.  There was no threat made -- the Big Ten said "you're under investigation" and Dodd went and looked up all of the possible penalties.

It's as banal a tweet as someone saying "Bob is under investigation for possible tax evasion.  The penalties range from probation to 100 years in SuperMax."  That's not a threat.

You & Dodd are correct. This was just a list affirming what tiny petitti has in his arsenal. Sal didn't do anything wrong here either in posting a CBS source. Love him or hate him it's way better than listening to the ESPN tripe.

  • A reprimand warning against committing a violation again
  • Probation for a specified period of time
  • Suspension "for a period of time"
  • Contact may be denied to "any prospective athlete"
  • An offending university may be barred from scheduling contests with other Big Ten schools
  • A school may be barred from having games televised under "a conference television agreement"
  • A school could be denied "all or some" conference income from TV or bowl revenue

No, it's 10 fakes out of fakes by the OP, and 9 out of the 10 by whomever wrote Dodd's headline (remember -- editors write headlines, not columnists).

ETA: should have said Dodd's tweet, not the headline.  I thought the two were the same, but they're not.  The headline to the article is mostly fine: "Jim Harbaugh readies court action if suspended as Big Ten weighs Michigan penalties beyond coach punishment"

Stupidity... They will lose the contract sooner than later.... They do this, they are going to lose house of cards that they thought was secure....

I'm pretty sure this is just sensationalizing from Dodd. The Big Ten hasn't suggested these as punishments, Dodd is just saying they're technically in the range of potential outcomes. Which is clickbait and nothing else

What the fuck. How on earth does the Big 10 provide an option to fuck Michigan out of TV revenue or a TV ban when they were part of 4 of the top 10 or something like that games last year. Why has Michigan split revenue with crap programs that couldn’t fill their stadiums if their lives depended on it. I hope Michigan goes scorched earth on these fucks and takes all our revenue someplace else along with oregon and usc. Let OSU split their tv revenue with the rest of the shit programs they are conspiring with

Seems like that would be violating the contract Michigan has with the Big Ten. I thought leaving the Big Ten was far fetched but if they start messing with the money the school makes, they will be out to the ACC or SEC as soon as today.

I’m not sure it is a relationship that can be repaired at this point.

However, everybody involved in this needs to chill the fuck out.

At this point Michigan is going to have to consider whether our players can keep playing.  Michigan is being portrayed as outright evil right now. This is incredibly fucked up toward them.  This shit isn’t a joke anymore and it needs to stop.

My uninformed guess is it is boilerplate language that they have to include in notice - the statement is anything from a reprimand to revenues, so I doubt that is seriously on the table.

That tweet is funny because the range of punishments are "reprimand" to basically costing UM millions of dollars.  Like, sure that's the complete spectrum of possible punishments that the Big 10 could try to exact on UM, even though we all know it ain't close to happening.
