Submitted by waliwiz1 on July 4th, 2019 at 10:00 AM

Here is SuperBook's odds for winning the National Championship. The Maize and Blue are rated higher than Ohio State.

Alabama - 9/4

Clemson - 9/4

Georgia - 6/1

Michigan - 12/1

Ohio State - 14/1

Oklahoma - 16/1

LSU - 20/1

Texas - 25/1

Auburn - 30/1

At this point it should read: Alabama 9/4, Clemson 9/4, Field ?

And frankly taking Alabama and Clemson together is 9/8 and seems like a pretty good damn good bet at this point.

Agree that that's a smart bet. But doesn't 9/4 mean that they are giving them a 4/13 chance of winning (and a 9/13 chance of not winning)? Like, if your odds are 2-1 against they are saying you have a 1/3 chance of winning? If that's right, then taking them together would be 5/8 (8/13 chance of one of them winning) and not 9/8.

You are 100% correct. One of the bets is an automatic loser which takes $4 right off the top. I can't walk away with $17 per $8, only $13 per $8. 5/8 is correct.

In that case, the bet isn't nearly as attractive. Clemson/Alabama is a pretty heavy favorite over the other 128 FBS teams. And yet they pretty clearly have the best returning QBs in college football and who else would you like? The Pac-12 is in disarray outside maybe Washington. The Big 12 still looks like Oklahoma (with a new QB and for their sake, a new defense) and everyone else. OSU breaks in a new coach, Michigan a new offense, and it's a new era at Penn State. I don't see ND making a second straight run through the regular season. Maybe Georgia or one of the SEC West contenders can dethrone Bama. But the other issue is that both Bama and Clemson will get the benefit of the doubt if they should lose a game. They will be at the head of the line amongst 1-loss teams.

If forced to make that bet, I'm pretty sure I'm taking the Bama/Clemson duo even with the odds.

Agreed.  This is essentially a list of schools with large fan bases and meant to entice the die-hard fans into placing a bet on their school.  The odds are set with only a cursory assessment of the school's actual chances of winning.  On the practical side, a bet anywhere other than Bama or Clemson at this point is like hoping to hit on a scratch-off win game.

As I told my son when we were landing at MaCarron one night..."look out the window, if the odds didn't favor the house none of this would be here."

All the glitter of Vegas is merely a hook to draw in folks who will eventually hand their money over. A variation on the hook is unrealistic odds on football games designed to induce fanaddicts to make poor bets.

There's actually lots of value in sports betting markets BUT basically zero in stuff like futures as the house hold on something like this is likely 25%+ which makes it impossible for anyone to show long term profit. Hopefully one day soon will have betting exchanges where this kind of garbage will no longer be around. This here is highway robbery

So the Sharps have us in the playoffs, by odds.

There's a little bit of "someone has to make it" to the playoff odds, aren't there? If you lock in Clemson and Alabama who else takes the remaining 2 spots? The Pac-12 seems contender-less as does any non-Clemson ACC team. The Big XII still feels like Oklahoma to me, but with a new QB and a new defense (which to be fair can only help). I'm not on the Tom Herman train regarding Texas. That leaves the Big Ten and/or a 2nd SEC team. Everyone has warts outside of the top 2 (and maybe Georgia), but Michigan has a returning starter at QB, a proven defense, even with the losses on that side of the ball, and OSU at home. Essentially Michigan fits the top of the "best of the rest" category. I think the odds reflect that category is pretty damn wide open.

UM is close and have been very close multiple times to breaking through under JH. He's proven he can beat the Dantonio's, Janklin's, Fitzgerald's, and guy from Wisconsin. Only OSU has been holding him back.

Without the OSU roadblock UM probably already has a couple playoff appearances.

Much like I felt beating MSU last season could finally turn that rivalry, I feel beating OSU this season could determine if UM ever makes it past OSU.

So we got blown out by 30 (4 touchdowns!) by OSU and Florida.

Does us having a new OC, mostly returning starters and a favorable schedule cover that?

With OSU losing Meyer, maybe for the OSU game.

But Georgia, Clemson and Alabama would eat any Big Ten alive.

I long for the old days and Rose Bowl trips...

I get it, but they are hands down the two best programs in America right now. Minus the Sugar Bowl semifinal between them for the 2017 season, each game between them has been an absolute classic.

As long as its not OSU playing for it all, I don't care who's playing as long as its a great game.

Fuck the odds. This is our year.  Bring it, kick ass and let the pundits say their shit.  Who is our Charles Woodson? Let’s find it and play to win it all.

Make way more money parlaying each bet to win game straight up last 7 weeks or so of season that includes both playoff games And big ten title game. Get much higher odds

Wow, the odds are that we'll be the 4th playoff team.  I'm going to buy my playoff tickets now. Seriously, I would be satisfied with a 3 loss season, just as long as we beat OSU at home.

They really should have this revised:

Alabama - 9/4

Clemson - 9/4

Everyone Else - Non-Existent?

After what I saw Trevor Lawrence do against Alabama in the title game, I just don't see how anyone else beats those guys unless the kid somehow has multiple off nights or gets injured. He was only a true freshman and threw for 350 yards and 3 TDs against Alabama. He made it look so easy, and the scary thing is that he's only going to get better. Their schedule this season is very manageable, and their toughest game (A&M) is at home.

Whatever other two teams that make the playoffs.... they are essentially a formality. You're going to get Bama-Clemson Part V next January.

Right now it’s July. Couldn’t care less about all this other paraphernalia. Just frick’in beat MSU & OSU and the year will be a success.

I really believe the unknown this year in the CF betting world is OSU and specifically QB Fields. He could live up to his HS - recruiting ratings and really be outstanding or be over-hyped and fall flat on his face which means OSU falls flat on its face. We have the best QB in the conference on our side and I have to believe that's tipping the scale in our favor with the preseason betting and forecasts. Even though the rest of the OSU lineup is stacked, I really believe OSU goes as Fields goes.
