Rumor out on FL staff offering recruit money

Submitted by StephenRKass on

I was just over at the Buckeye site Eleven Warriors. There is something out from an SEC blog about major shenanigans happening at Florida.

LINK:  Rumor out that a recruit has a video of the Florida staff offering him money

You can go to the link yourself. It goes against almost everything I've read about bagmen in the SEC. But if true and proveable, these could be death penalty type violations. I'll believe the NCAA actually does something when I see it happen for the first time. Whatever.

My point in posting here is that this could really have an affect on several recruits. The big one, imhe, is Tedarrell Slaton. We have really not had a shot at him. However, if Florida turns toxic, is it possible he could be flipped at this late date? Would we want Herbert back? I don't know, but I've felt all along that OL recruiting was the most important thing for this class.

It has nothing to do with Florida, but I'd dearly love for dirt to come out this weekend on Georgia, bringing Collins (and possibly Wilson . . . pipe dream, but one can hope) up to Michigan instead.

I would think recruiting rankings are meaningless, based on a very simple rule.

That rule being, the overall ranking of a given team, possibly ending in being ranked no. 1 in recruiting in any given year definitely reflects a talented class. Arguments to the contrary seem useless. However, a team ranked lower coulld very easily have assembled a team reflecting a greater possibility of success. When paying a player, it's obvious your money will be spent on those considered among the best at any given position. However, if your money spent is not as great in total, but the ability to judge what positions are most important in order to best complement those already on your roster and the investment leads to the acquisition of same, say a Deshaun Watson, clearly possessing the best combinations of all the skills necessary to separate a premier quarterback from the rest of the pack, the importance your staff placed on acquiring those services. The level of importance was based  on having superior talent in many areas of the offense. However, minus a qb whose play woulr result in maximizing the talent of those gifted players will often times provide the difference needed and will be the difference in whether you receive a W or L. The combined ability to first identify the difference maker that is missing from your roster, and instead of simply purchasing the greatest number of outstanding players, resources being a better word than ability for the second phase, being sufficient enough to make the purchase. Repeated spending of this nature, aimed purposely on filling the most glaring hole first and the others in order of importance may prove more beneifical than simply a plan that consists of purchasing more talent and not necessarily talent of greatest need. The ability of Elliot, for example to routinely run away from the two oversized backers,  the prices of each when combined more than likely being far greater than the purchase price for Zeke. but Zeke proved to be the wiser move.

Likewise, the performance of Watson being the most significant reason  for Clemson's victory this year, proved to be a greater value than the purchase price of those Alabama targeted as being able to negate sinfiicantly his impact.

Do you have some grounds for this?

I will grant that this is a "rumor about a rumor" type of situation, and half the time these things turn out to be absolutely nothing. A message board says they heard that an offer was made and a video was sent and they've heard that everyone is talking about it but nobody has seen the video and nobody is quoted.

But curious if you know any actual details here.

I don't want to come to your school, but I have a tape of your offerings, so I will take some money off your hands. You will just have to times it by 10 four times a year or LOL. Florida and Georgia and most of the sec first statement when a recruit visits. "This is what we are offering" and "what do you need to sign". How pathetic....schools of higher learning what a frickin joke.

Two schools that have had rumors come up recently are Georgia and Florida. Both are coached by former assistants of Nick Saban.

In the past Georgia under Richt and Florida were known to be un-SEC like in the way they handled their business. I guess that might have all changed when Saban assistants took over.

Recruiting in this day and age has become absolutely crazy. I can't imagine being a highly sought after recruit in today's crazy recruiting landscape.

that good bagmen do not get caught, makes it obvious you and I read the same article, as I think, too, the majority on this site. That article made it perfectly clear the lengths bagmen go to to prevent being exposed and I cannot imagine, with it being so common in the SEC, why their bagmen would be any less capable of mastering the art of the deal. If true, this would indicate these were apprentice bagmen and far away from receiving their jouneymen's status.

Those of you who claimed there would be no dealth penalty or possibly no ncaa findings of violations at all are, most likely correct. Based on the occurrences of a chain of events, mandated by the AD at UT, including plariarism, grade changes, student tutors with no attempt at disguising their behavior(mandated by the AD as well), threats of great bodily harm, attempted murder, forced termination of tenured professors, football players failing to attend class, among many other violations, occurring while Phil Fulmer was head coach, exposed in a 60 Minutes episode on national t.v., etc., I am forced to agree with these conclusions.

The evidence is lengthy in nature, far too lengthy for this site, but I will share by email if anyone makes a request.
