Record after 8 games

UM is 1-1 against that list of teams. these posts look pretty stupid in January when all the games have been played.
October 29th, 2011 at 11:32 PM ^
everyone else has more favorable schedules down the stretch.

It's not January, it's (still) October, and just let me enjoy that list for awhile.
We get a shot at one of the other two and might get a shot at both.

Golly Killjoy. Rough day?

You sound incredibly pessimistic given the events of today and really the entire season in general.
October 30th, 2011 at 3:44 AM ^
Its not that serious dude, its ok to enjoy the 7-1 record regardless of future outcomes.
October 30th, 2011 at 1:05 PM ^
I actually disagree with the sentiment that Sparty "kicked our ass for 60 minutes."
There were two very key plays in the game that basically swung the game in MSU's favor and neither of them had anything to do with MSU making a good play:
First, Devin not throwing the ball to a wide open Stephen Hopkins (that was a terrible play by MSU's defense but UM didn't make them pay for it becaus of Devin's incompetence) which cost UM 7 points and a half time lead.
Second, the botched call by the official when he blew the play dead on the backwards pass/muff that should have resulted in a turnover deep in MSU territory. MSU scored a TD on that drive (which should not have continued) and UM missed the opportunity for points as they would have had that ball, at worst, at the MSU 30-yard line. That was at least a 7 point swing and potentially a 14 point swing.
If those two plays go UM's way, UM probably has a 17-7 or 21-7 lead in the 3rd quarter. Totally different ballgame.

Wisconsin sucks, they're a bunch of quitters that can't handle a punch in the mouth. Fuck ohio

Well that was your mistake right there. After a rival team wins and you have friends who support said Rival, turn your phone off/don't listen to it.
October 30th, 2011 at 2:51 PM ^
uh, i think the bigger problem is having osu fans as friends.

Wilson looked like a deer in the headlights tonight, they couldn't stop the running attack of a team that the KNEW was going to run, and they couldn't stop a back-foot 50-yard pass across a guy's body. They also started their season with 6 straight home games, five against absolute garbage. They then lost their first two road games. There is not yet evidence that they are a good team. The conclusion to be drawn from today is that Wisconsin, Ohio State, Michigan State, Nebraska, and Michigan are all at about the same level. I think in any matchup between those teams, the home team is most likely to win, and, so far, has.
October 29th, 2011 at 11:47 PM ^
Take solace in the fact that Wisconsin apparently can't win on the road (see: @MSU) and OSU is only good at home. Michigan gets OSU at home this year. Feel better? If not go drink a whiskey and realize that playing and beating a crappy OSU isn't really that fulfilling.
I'd rather they come into Ann Arbor playing well and leave with their asses handed to them.
October 30th, 2011 at 8:49 AM ^
we played and lost to a crappy team since MSU only seems to be good at home unless they are playing against a team with a bunch of suspended players. Ohio will get better as the year goes on unless Miller goes down. They should also have Posey back for The Game. Their D is good and in close games last year at SDSU Borges threw way more than ran ie MSU despite playing in a wind storm. If he predetermines we can't run the ball again like he did against MSU then I suspect we lose again.
October 30th, 2011 at 11:51 AM ^
Unfortunately there is no reason to believe we can run against the bucknuts. We don't have the speed to outflank them nor the power to run over them. Their front seven should be able to control our run. I believe we need to run multiple receiver sets and look to throw a ton of short passes and screens.
That may loosen up their defense and allow some semblance of a running game. It would have been nice to try that strategy against sparty too.
October 30th, 2011 at 12:10 AM ^
Well I don't think Mattison's defense would let that OSU receiver get that far behind the DBs on the last touchdown. No big plays. And yes I am ignoring the rest of the game and the fact that I would kill to have an Oline and running game like Wisconsin has.
October 30th, 2011 at 12:25 AM ^
i found it extremely ironic that on the last play of the game, the Ohio Dline got through with a 3 man rush and blocked the pass...
October 30th, 2011 at 12:28 AM ^
Wisconsin gave up 2 TDs on a blocked punt and a horrific coverage bust. Take those away and they win by double digits. OSU still has a weak, 1-dimensional offense.
October 30th, 2011 at 3:47 AM ^
They average about 80 yards a game passing. Stack the box like MSU did against UM and force Miller to throw. UM wins this game in AA.
October 29th, 2011 at 11:38 PM ^
I would like to take a few seconds to name 4 (of many overall) teams that have easier remaining schedules after 8 games than that of the Michigan Wolverines.
1. Ohio State
2. Michigan State
3. Notre Dame
4. Wisconsin
October 29th, 2011 at 11:41 PM ^
That may very well be true, but it was clearly stated that two of the key concepts of the post were "after 8 games" and "enjoy".
If you don't want to, okay, but I'm putting this computing device down, pouring a drink and going to the porch for fresh air, cuz I can't hang out with Negative Nelly right now.

i always bitch about commenters on this site. they all act like they're coaches or something. or as i said before (and my comment was deleted), they really think anyone gives a shit what they think
October 30th, 2011 at 12:09 AM ^
We don't care what you think.
October 29th, 2011 at 11:55 PM ^
Even if we split the remaining games (worst case scenario IMO) we wind up 9-3. I'm not disappointed and maybe borderline happy with that. Probably puts us in the Capital One Bowl.
October 30th, 2011 at 12:00 AM ^
A team we haven't played yet, a team we lost to, a team we beat on a last second TD, and a team we will only play if both teams win out and get some help.
Why can't people just enjoy 7-1? Why. Why, Why?
October 30th, 2011 at 12:09 AM ^
I guess I'll just keep to myself, so I don't incur the wrath of the funny little men with their computers.
October 30th, 2011 at 12:13 AM ^
but if those 7 wins included decisive victories against the teams you named, it would be a different story. Jeesh, you celebrate MSU's record, yet they are ahead of Michigan in the standings.
October 30th, 2011 at 3:56 AM ^
These guys are chicken littles. The schedule is not that tough, Iowa just lost to the worst team in a major conference and Illinois squeaked out a wins over WMU, NW and have now lost 3 straight including a loss to Purdue. Nebraska is tough but is at home, OSU is severely limited offensively and its at home also. I like Mattison to gameplan OSU and pretty much shut them down.
Bottomline is this conference sucks and talking about how tough UM schedule is laughable as none of these teams are balanced and tougher ones are at home.
October 30th, 2011 at 9:08 AM ^
Yes they are, but everyone in the Big plays better at home and we have always had a tough time at Kinnick. How many games has Iowa lost at home? Zero. Illinois has lost one to Ohio. We're 1-1 on the road and Northwestern was almost like a home game as we had nearly as many fans in the stands. Is any conference really that good?
October 30th, 2011 at 12:10 AM ^
October 30th, 2011 at 12:14 AM ^
MSU would, I believe the order is: overall conference record is the first deciding factor, then head to head, then division record.
October 30th, 2011 at 12:37 AM ^
Can you, or anyone else for that matter, explain the rationale behind having head-to-head before division record?
October 30th, 2011 at 1:47 PM ^
Yeah, it's more of "hey, we're still one big but not that big conference" and "if another guy has beaten you, he is better than you are if records equal, so tough shit."

So what you are saying is EMU is better than all those teams and and since Texas is ranked, you are saying EMU should be ranked! I can definitely agree with this! EMU is on the straight path to a BCS Bowl game!!!
/s...only in user controlled world of XBOX is this possible :(
October 30th, 2011 at 3:22 AM ^
MSU beat a depleted OSU and OSU's defense looked dominant today vs Wiscy for most of the game. OSU also got their run game going.... That doesn't bode well.
We have the home field, and they have a freshman QB, but we'll be on the tail end of a bruising 4 game stretch. I expect a game where we get manhandled and don't crack the 18 point mark, kind of like the MSU game, with Hoke talking after the game about being more physical.
Gorgeous was a huge disappointment with the packages he prepared vs State, let's see if he can surprise and come up with a plan, otherwise this game will end up like 20-10 OSU.
End of day, I prepared myself this year to be happy with 8-4 and I'll stick with that. Split Iowa/Illinois, and then expect losses to Neb and Ohio. Anything else will be a great surprise and I'll be jumping for joy.
October 30th, 2011 at 6:09 AM ^
We can hope for 2-1 against the list. We don't play Wisconsin for a few years.
Sorry, that's all I got from the OP.
October 30th, 2011 at 10:12 AM ^
Quite a few posters on here have forgotten what it's like to have a team improve and play better as the season progresses. It is happening right now. These last 4 games are all very winnable the way the team is coming together. In the meantime, I love the optimistic viewpoint of Flying Dutchman.
October 30th, 2011 at 11:12 AM ^
Their records versus ours doesn't mean much in big ten play. Especially with what it looks like now.
