Pete Thamel on Harbaugh during Pat McAfee Show interview: "If there is a contract given to Jim Harbaugh in the upcoming weeks it would be one of the ultimate middle fingers to the NCAA"
A few things of note from this interview:
- Pete Thamel seems visibly irked by the contract extension happening
- He compares this scandal to Bill Self's scandal, which is absurd
- He seems upset that the NCAA's punishment will be slow and that the B1G is not acting
- He gives no indication that, despite the contract progressing, there might just not be anything to this scandal
- He once again furthers the asinine notion that Michigan not commenting means something despite that Michigan cannot comment on an open investigation

Ole Paul Thamel…

Guy is really feeling himself. And giving himself an erection. And exhibiting it. It may look pretty small, and him with it, as time goes on.
He'd better really, really know something that we don't.

Aren't Thamel and Urban Meyer good friends?
October 31st, 2023 at 5:46 PM ^
Simultaneously we know way more than him and also everything he knows all at once.
He isnt holding any info back this is FUN TIME for him!
October 31st, 2023 at 5:57 PM ^
He knows nothing more than the rest of us at this time. He's just another media guy with a Twitter account (excuse me, an X account) who just can't stop the moral preening. It makes him feel like he is an important man. See reference to erections above...

George McFly vibes for sure

If any of you go to Gameday when it comes for the OSU game, you sure as heck better boo him constantly when he comes on to talk.

"if you see him at the mall in willowbrook, BOO him"

FWIW, I actually watched the clip and none of OP’s 5 notes are true.
October 31st, 2023 at 4:30 PM ^
Looks like op's opinion...
October 31st, 2023 at 4:38 PM ^
#4 in the OP was true. Not sure it's offensive to me, but it's true.
October 31st, 2023 at 4:53 PM ^
Right you are! 1/5
October 31st, 2023 at 6:45 PM ^
Of course he doesn't acknowledge that there might not be much to the story -- he's been the main cheerleader promoting this garbage for the last few weeks
October 31st, 2023 at 5:47 PM ^
#3 shocked me.
October 31st, 2023 at 6:30 PM ^
Agree with this. OP is inventing outrage where they're isn't any.
I didn't see Thamel as "visibly irked" and he only compared Harbaugh's situation to Self's in that he may get a contract extension while under investigation for something, not that they were of equivalent scale.
October 31st, 2023 at 4:31 PM ^
he's invested in a certain narrative and gets benefit when people click on a link or watch an ad. So feeding an outrage machine helps him either way - and maybe the past 2 weeks have made this story like catnip for him. Either way - not sure why I or anyone else would care about the opinion of this specific talking head.....
October 31st, 2023 at 4:58 PM ^
he's had the same signgate tweet pinned to his twitter page for more than a week

I wonder how ol' Pete felt about Jim Tressel lying to Jim Delany so that several Buckeye players could participate in the Sugar Bowl?
With Delany, Ohio State coach Jim Tressel and athletic director Gene Smith asking for leniency from the NCAA, the five players were permitted to play in the bowl game and wait until this fall to begin serving a five-game suspension for accepting money and tattoos from the owner of a Columbus tattoo parlor.
It wasn't until more than a week after the Buckeyes' 31-26 victory over Arkansas that Ohio State officials discovered Tressel had known about the players' violations for more than nine months.
Where does that one rank Pete?

Fun how they all dressed up for Halloween, although Thamel is a clown everyday tbf.

If we are being fair, McAfee is a daily clown too.

Perhaps Thamel will also "figure out a sign" - since, the message seems to apply to him as well.
October 31st, 2023 at 4:08 PM ^
Thamel wants clicks on his articles, and to push the idea of chaos. A contract extension offer would negate his efforts.
I'm all for a middle finger to the NCAA.......and to Thamel too
October 31st, 2023 at 4:15 PM ^
Yep....
Soooo...how about UM fans stop putting money in their pockets ala clicks on this dumb shit.
October 31st, 2023 at 4:19 PM ^
I've been saying this for years and years. They make click-bait bullshit because most people fall for the click-bait bullshit.

100% of my info on this topic is this site - thanks fellas. (And it can’t go away fast enough).
October 31st, 2023 at 5:36 PM ^
Thamel is an ESPN shill.
ESPN is invested in the SEC. ESPN's biggest competitors are invested in the B1G Ten.
ESPN is an entertainment entity owned by Disney.
Last I checked Disney was a for-profit company.
Thamel's agenda is pretty clear. No reason to pay attention to him.

This guy seriously needs to go away.

Didn't Finebaum come out in support of Harbaugh earlier?
October 31st, 2023 at 4:47 PM ^
He changed his tune this week
October 31st, 2023 at 4:57 PM ^
Yes, he originally said it was NBD but now wants Harbaugh to fall on his sword. I imagine he would claim this is consistent reasoning; that the crime is nothing but it's Harbaugh's responsibility to act like it is.
I guess defending Harbaugh wasn't getting him positive feedback.
October 31st, 2023 at 5:04 PM ^
Yeah. Truth be damned. Money drives these assholes
October 31st, 2023 at 5:36 PM ^

Very critical of Harbaugh not giving satisfactory answers for his liking, for not taking responsibility, and calls the scandal "sleazy, disgusting" and "stinks to high heavens."
As a reminder, this was his initial take:
So he hasn't contradicted himself anywhere, but his tone went from defending to doing the "piling on" he accused the NCAA of.
October 31st, 2023 at 4:08 PM ^
He's irked because if Michigan extends him it means they don't think the allegations are serious and if they aren't serious then his "reporting" on it is just a fart in the wind.
October 31st, 2023 at 4:20 PM ^
... then his "reporting" on it is just a fart in the wind.
Much like the rest of his lonely existence.
October 31st, 2023 at 4:24 PM ^
On the contrary, I think Ol' Pete is just trying to control the narrative.
If his original story suggesting "HaRgHbAuGh is ChEaTiNg!" starts to lose credibility, he can flip the outrage to "HaRbAuGh DoEsN't EvEn CaRe AbOuT the RuLeS!", thus continuing the clickbait campaign at Michigan's expense.
RIP journalistic integrity.

I love Kansas
October 31st, 2023 at 4:48 PM ^
Yep. People desperately want this to be a mega-scandal and Michigan extending Harbaugh points to that not being the case which is people all riled up
October 31st, 2023 at 4:53 PM ^
His entire “reporting” on this topic has been compilations of OSU message board posts and copy-paste from Stalions’s LinkedIn.
October 31st, 2023 at 4:09 PM ^
Poor Petey. His great work might not get the attention it deserves.
Hey, Pete. Tell us who's been feeding you all the scoops and we'll send you a box of cookies.
October 31st, 2023 at 4:09 PM ^
No, it would be a middle finger to Pete Thamel and all the other trash who call themselves journalists who live for nothing but clicks. I'm not sure the NCAA even gives a shit.
