I live an hour from there in Izzo’s hometown (Iron Mountain). Wearing my Michigan Alumni hat proudly throughout town (it’s a heavy Sparty fan base because of Izzo).

I think there are only two things to do up there.

1 - Drink

2 - F  -you fill in the blanks

I really enjoy both of those activities, but I have other things I like to do.

If the ad is talking about from Lansing to Escanada, why is the picture the Spirit of Detroit?? They seem to be emphasizing from south to north, and the pic contradicts. Still can’t read, still can’t write.

My Grandma grew up in Escanaba and still has a house on the Stonington Peninsula. I get up there as often as I can. Plus, Dobber's is where I get my pasties. The big, recent news out of Escanaba is that the last ore boat departed the harbor last summer. Sad milestone for the town.

Eskymos made the state semi's in football this year, i do believe, before falling to Grand Rapids Catholic Central. ESPN U.P. (radio) is basically high school sports, Packers, and roller derby.

I'm 1/4 Canadian (on my father's side) and my mother was born/raised in the Soo.

So whatever the stupid Spartan intended I feel right at home in this thread.

or   . . . The Girl From Ipanema  (best heard at an outdoor cafe in Ann Arbor during summer term.)

Michigan won the Toledo War and Ohio was stuck with the Bagdad of the Maumee

Wisconsin territory had both the upper peninsula and CHICAGO per the the Northwest Territory Ordinance of  1787.  But once Michigan stuck Ohio with Toledo the ordinance carried little weight as Indiana and Illinois fought for water rights (Lake Michigan) with their statehood.

Calumet, Michigan, the Keweenaw, Copper Country was the place to be in 1899.  It was the Silcon Valley of its day.  Calumet & Hecla (C&H) Mining paid a record amount of dividends exceeding Standard Oil which really perturbed the Rockefellers.

We don't know if anyone at Michigan Agricultural College could spell Escanaba at that time but the Wolverine mine did well.  I tried rubbing a piece of Wolverine sandstone for luck but the refereees still didn't get the call right.
